Saw it last night. Thought it was an excellent film. The cursing that peppers all the way through was hysterical! Olivia Coleman is such a superb actress.

Yep, I found it laugh out loud, funny, which is rare for me. Reviews aren't too good overall, though?

tryingtohelp82 · 08/03/2024 18:26

It was BRILLIANT!
Loved the ending, so satisfying.

QueenOfThorns · 08/03/2024 18:32

Oh, this is interesting! I was going to see whether DM wanted to see it with me, but the reviews put me off. Perhaps we should go Smile

Lovingtheglitter · 08/03/2024 18:34

Yes it got a terrible review in The Grauniad - that was the encouragement I needed to go 😂. Just saw it with DDs and DH - we all enjoyed it, sure it’s not an Oscar prospect but so what! Without giving spoilers, I did feel there was a much more sinister and unexplored undercurrent to it, so yes it was funny but sort of also serious without ramming it down the throat.

MadisonAvenue · 08/03/2024 18:39

We’re seeing it on Wednesday. We’d originally booked tickets for last week but both had horrendous colds so cancelled which was so disappointing, it must be doing well as it’ll be the third week that it’s in our local Odeon and it’s still got four screenings a day.

Spidey66 · 08/03/2024 18:40

Loved it!!!

EndlesslyDistracted · 08/03/2024 18:46

I saw it last week too, yes there is definitely a darker side to it but my friend and I thoroughly enjoyed it with some laugh out loud moments and great acting.

HelloDarlingWhatAreYouDoingHere · 08/03/2024 18:48

It was brilliant, I absolutely loved it.

Put me in such a good mood!

Mmm love the sharing platters!

I never go by the reviews. I think some just love to criticise, and their standards are impossible.

It was fantastic

TurquoiseDress · 08/03/2024 19:04

I loved it

Laugh out loud funny

Also showed the rampant sexism everywhere in 1920s...references to the suffragettes and men getting their knickers in a twist about it

CaptainMyCaptain · 08/03/2024 19:06

I'm glad to read these comments. I'm going to see it on Tuesday with some friends.

BeetyAxe · 08/03/2024 19:33

I also thought it was hilarious, so so funny and I didn’t want to see it because I don’t like Olivia Coleman. It was great.

happystory · 08/03/2024 19:50

Yes, 3rd week on at our local cinema. Superb performances, the whole audience laughing out loud and very interesting undercurrent of attitudes to women at the time.

DahliaMacNamara · 08/03/2024 19:54

I rarely go to the cinema, and might have been put off if I'd seen reviews, but I really enjoyed it, and I think DH did too.

FluffyToesMeow · 08/03/2024 20:27

It was hilarious! I rarely say that. But it was fab 👍👍👍👍

FluffyToesMeow · 08/03/2024 20:28

Think the review in the guardian was by an American who didn't get the humour.

SomersetTart · 09/03/2024 15:16

Saw it at the cinema last night and the audience seemed to love it - laughs throughout and several big cheers too. Fantastic story with hosts of wonderful actors. I thought it was very beautiful to look at and really enjoyed the costume and scenery - especially the interiors and street scenes.

LizziesTwin · 09/03/2024 21:28

Saw this today and really enjoyed it, can definitely recommend.

Goddessonahighway · 09/03/2024 21:34

Loved it too. Funny but also interesting point to make about the sexism of the time. Great cast. I didn't guess 'who dunnit'.

I didn't get the hype about Olivia Coleman but since watching Wonka and this film I do - she's so watchable.

SomersetTart · 09/03/2024 21:37

The Guardian review said all the humour was based on swearing and people being shocked by swearing. That was absolutely not true, there were so many funny moments.

Haveyoubrushedyourteeth · 09/03/2024 22:01

Such a good film. I never go to see something twice, but I'd happily see It again. It was brilliant. Never understood why people rave about Olivia Coleman, but I absolutely do now!

tsmainsqueeze · 09/03/2024 22:06

I really want to see it , is it suitable to watch with my 15 yr old daughter ?

Jackiebrambles · 09/03/2024 22:07

I absolutely loved it, the times gave it a crap review too but I’m glad I ignored it (I love Olivia Colman and Timothy Spall so thought how bad could it be?) but it was really, so funny and enjoyable! Brilliant cast.
