We have just watched The Talented Mr Rippley for the first time. Omg it was so good. You literally need a bottle of wine and two valium to watch it.

Has anyone got any good film recommendations that's a good watch with a good twist?

quite old now but No Way Out with Kevin Costner (from the 80s)

Best. Twist. Ever.

The Gift (2015). It’s really, really creepy.

Needhelp101 · 30/07/2023 16:52

Agree with so many here!

I'll throw LA Confidential into the ring. It's also a superb film.

The Babadook too maybe?

Piggywaspushed · 30/07/2023 17:05

Basically Shutter Island, American Psycho et al are all versions of the original great reveal , The Cabinet of Dr Caligari.

The village !

Old

Incident in a Ghostland (Be warned: this is a brutal watch)

Fourlegsandatail · 30/07/2023 17:12

I agree with so many recommendations here, Memento, Arlington Road and Arrival.

A movie called Frailty is amazing and nobody I know has ever seen it. The plot twist is so good, I did not see it coming at all. It’s a real hidden gem of a film. It’s from the early noughties and stars Matthew McConaughey and Bill Paxton (who directed it). Well worth seeking out.

Here is a synopsis that doesn’t even begin to do it justice: One day, a widowed blue-collar worker has a revelation: he must destroy those revealed to him as demons. He then begins the serial killings of `God's Hand Killer' across Texas, but he also has two young sons, the younger of whom idolises him and believes in the cause, while his older brother is revolted but cannot bring himself to stop his father. Twenty years later, the elder son walks into a police station and confesses.

You lot are fab Grin thanks so much for all the great recommendations. Lots for us to work our way through.

I've seen a lot of them that's been mentioned but would watch them again as they are good ones.

Last night we watched Alfred Hitchcocks Rope. Really enjoyed that one. Tonight's viewing is going to be four in a bed then when kids are in bed. We are going to watch Alfred Hitchcocks strangers on a train.

Unfaithful.
Prisoners.

Neither have twists as such, but different endings to what you'd expect.

Strangers on a Train is a fab film, OP! Hope you enjoy it.

Shadow of a Doubt by Hitchcock is fantastic. Supposedly his favorite of his own films.

ZeldaWillTellYourFortune · 30/07/2023 20:31

The 2015 film "the Invitation " is disturbing with a twist.

Don't confuse with 2022 film of the same name.

watersprites · 30/07/2023 20:55

There's one with Kurt Russell & a truck driver, it's old but love it

watersprites · 30/07/2023 20:56

Parasite is excellent

Elizadoloads · 30/07/2023 20:58

The sixth sense

Dreamersdontdie · 30/07/2023 21:03

The Road
The Village
Seven psychopaths (not a horror!)
Parasite
Fyre Fraud (not a shocker but sort of twists and turns for a documentary Wink)

Primal fear. Classic!

Simply the best ever plot twist film EVER

Janella · 30/07/2023 21:14

It's an oldish one now but The Prestige with Christian Bale is very good.

Ambi · 30/07/2023 21:19

Love a twisty film. Most of M Night Sham. Films so; the sixth sense, unbreakable, old, the village.
Inside Man and the Prestige are 2 of my absolute favourites and can't help but watch every time they are on.

Parasite is one of my favourite ever films, and while I'm not sure it counts as a plot twist, I'd add Oldboy.

XelaM · 30/07/2023 21:43

Parasite is excellent
