Looking for some com in the Rom-com

I've spent the past few days in Netflix/prime looking for something decent to watch, allegedly called rom-comes,they might have the rom, but are rarely funny. I end up feeling as though I have wasted yet another couple of hours of my life.

Are there any funny ones out there, or should I just find some more good books? I know it's all a bit subjective, but anyone got any recommendations?

I found ‘Set it Up’ (Netflix) genuinely funny and one of the better romcoms in recent years.

TimeToLose8 · 20/12/2022 20:35

@HippieInASecondLocation yes, I've seen that (actually twice now, as I couldn't remember seeing it the first time -that's my age kicking in), and yes, I did enjoy that one!

Have you tried classic films? I’ve found a lot of the recent ones definitely lacking in the comedy department, and instead sought out some of the original romcoms. Movies like It Happened One Night (1934) have been a delight to discover.

Wedding crashers is hilarious, but only a bit rom

ZenNudist · 20/12/2022 20:54

Watching (sorry)

Velvian · 20/12/2022 20:55

I thought Your Christmas or Mine on Amazon Prime was good.

DuncanBiscuits · 20/12/2022 20:57

I liked Man Up with Simon Pegg.

limitededitionbarbie · 20/12/2022 20:57

I liked Zachary and Miri make a porno

I assume you've seen Always Be My Maybe. I liked Love Guaranteed and Look Both Ways. If you have DisneyPlus, Rosaline is very good as well.

frustratedacademic · 20/12/2022 21:09

When Harry Met Sally is one of the best of the genre

Velvian · 20/12/2022 21:18

Have you seen The Lost City with Sandra Bullock and Channing Tatum? I really properly laughed at that

Coldsteadyrain · 20/12/2022 21:20

Intolerable Cruelty.

Oher · 20/12/2022 21:20

Blended on Netflix made me laugh quite a few times.

DuncanBiscuits · 20/12/2022 21:26

Going back a bit, My Best Friend’s Wedding is a good one.

DuncanBiscuits · 20/12/2022 21:27

The Proposal, too.

surlycurly · 20/12/2022 21:30

Figrolls14 · 20/12/2022 22:45

Oh god Bridesmaids is good

Love Hard is funny in places (I loved their version of Baby It's Cold Outside) And it's very Christmassy and very sweet romance.

Bridget Jones is funny.

About A Boy is more com than rom (and also always makes me cry) but it's a brilliant film.
