Lady Chatterley’s Lover on Netflix

Watching this today - will report back my thoughts. Loved the book and curious to see how Netflix interprets it.

I’m surprised to see so little critical written about this. I had very mixed feelings. Overall I enjoyed it and thought especially the female lead was well acted. But there were a lot of weakness too. I thought they’d made some choices with the plot that were a bit too “easy “ and obvious. Similarly I felt there was a lot of patronising of the viewer.. the sort of underlining, repetition, slowing or closing up in a way that felt patronising.. almost like saying “you dumb viewer, did you definitely now get this is what happened/was felt/seen etc”.

A silly, small personal opinion but I also felt the gamekeepers accent didn’t feel natural but like someone trying to speak in an accent not their own. The way he spoke massively reduced his attractiveness to me.

Am I the only one feeling this critically about the film?

I didn't really like it. Sean Bean was more convincing. I agree the clothes were gorgeous though.

Jack o'Connell comes from Derbyshire, where Wragsby is set, so he may be speaking in a slightly exaggerated version of his natural accent.

That aside I preferred Richard Madden's Oliver.

I enjoyed it, the clothes were beautiful, slightly spoilt by Emma Corin’s hunched shoulders!

Weren't they! The dress she had on in Venice!

Also enjoyed from a Jack O connel appreciation perspective.

The sight of Richard Madeley rutting away would be more sexiness than any of us could cope with.

Had to go and watch a quick interview clip of Jack O'Connell now and oh my god... It is pretty much his own accent. And I found it so off putting. 🙈 Apologies to any mumsnetters with midland accent.. I'm still convinced there is something else. That there is just that exaggeration or maybe it's the acting. Something just didn't quite feel right with his character.

Ooooh, is it really filthy? I might have to watch this later when the kids are asleep!

I bloody love a bit of Sean Bean.

If you can get hold of last months Red, (December issue) there is a decent interview with Joely Richardson in it.

As the proud owner of one of these, I was glad to see that! Watched Take This Waltz last night too, which had a whole arboretum of untrimmed bushes.

Sean Bean - his voice...OMG ❤️

I thought it was pretty but the lead actors had no chemistry.
Of course the book is better & has an ambiguous ending.
This was far too schmaltzy at the end.

It was ok but the two main characters lacked any real spark or chemistry in my view.

I like his accent, sounds very authentic to me

@SteveHarringtonsChestHair apparently the 1970s vibe is back. A sort of anti Kadashian. Personally I have very little, too blonde, old and bald. However I have to rid myself of the 'mutton chop' whiskers before a dip in the pool! 😂

Just finished watching this.

I loved mellors - really saw the appeal. But Connie annoyed me. Her fingernails really bugged me - gel nails in 1920.

I also worried they'd get a bit chilly. All that outdoor shagging and prancing about in the rain. There was a lot of dampness....

I loved that 😍 haven’t seen the Sean Bean one, which feels like a crime now I know it exists. Will definitely give this version a watch, altho I’m not an EC fan, I am definitely a JO’C fan 😍 teenage me did love Cook!

Watched this out of interest the other day, that actor out of Starred Up? Christ, I've had had to untie my drawers just thinking if him barking "look at me, do you want me to fun you?"
