I saw this last night. I wouldn't say it was the best thriller I've ever seen but it was a bit different and had lots of unexpected twists. Quite a departure for Hugh Bonneville!

Anyone else watched it?

Anyone??

I watched it tonight, and came on to see if anyone was discussing it! What a horrible human being.

Poor Lizzie Shock

Also just watched it ... SPOILERS!!!

Spoilers!

poor Lizzie and Toby. And Jay Sad

For some reason I really thought they'd get away, but of a punch to the stomach when they didn't. It was actually more horrible to know but not have seen or heard it happen I think.

tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 02/09/2022 23:21

Apologies OP in my rush to join the conversation I failed to see you'd already done a spoiler alert.

I think it's left me a tad traumatised Confused

Ineedtoletgo83 · 02/09/2022 23:23

Watched it last night and still thinking about it!!

im assuming Hugh’s character was Gay like his father but disgusted by his sexuality. And then took out revenge on Ravi/his dad by imprisoning and killing Persian asylum seekers? A bit far fetched tbh

Grottyrotter · 02/09/2022 23:24

Watched it last night and I have to say I much prefer Hugh as Robert Crawley!!

I really enjoyed it. Just shows you what these well respected types could be getting up to!

Imnotreadyforthis88 · 02/09/2022 23:32

I really enjoyed it, it gripped my attention from the beginning and throughout which is unusual. I even found myself shouting "run!!!" and "phone the police!!" quite a few times 😂. It was strange seeing Hugh Bonneville play such a horrible man after Downton Abbey.

MistressIggi · 02/09/2022 23:40

Yes it was a shock to see who was in the room at the end (ie, who wasn't). Was that the man from the beginning?

Grottyrotter · 02/09/2022 23:42

When he did that weird creepy whispering to the police officer Shock

I took it to be yet another victim. I think he got rid of the prison after Toby broke in because had the foresight to see that he may have told people where he was headed that night and the police would come knocking. He then preyed on the man from the gym once he thought the fuss had died down but then decided he needed a fresh start outside London.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 02/09/2022 23:48

Just watched it, really enjoyed it and liked the fact it wasn't overly gory.

Omg yes, the way he just changed! I was holding out hope that he'd lied to Lizzie and that Toby was still alive at the end ☹️

I remember the reference to his wife - in a psychiatric hospital - I wonder what sent the poor woman there!

KillingMeDeftly · 03/09/2022 08:30

I thought the twist was going to be that his wife was in a psychiatric hospital because she'd been raped or attacked and the guy he was keeping prisoner was her rapist. But no, he was just completely evil instead!

OP posts:
tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 03/09/2022 08:35

When Jay went to his London and home and searched the cellar I wondered if he'd find Toby had tagged the wall somewhere Confused as in a little discreet one not the humongous one!

KillingMeDeftly · 03/09/2022 08:36

And I'd like to think Sir Hector would be going down for a long time but the depressing truth is that his connections would probably mean he'd get away with a shorter sentence. After all there's no real proof that he murdered his victims, is there?

I don't know why but it's really unsettled me today ... I can't stop thinking about it Sad

Excellent film though, still really glad I watched it.

Bagpuss2022 · 03/09/2022 14:07

Really good film I recommended it to my Ds 18 he said him and his GF also watched it and said it really disturbed him even without the gore it made it worse somehow
he was a very evil guy

tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 03/09/2022 14:21

I wonder if our shock comes from the old trope that our "goodie " will always find a way. Then after that its almost disbelief that poor mum comes a cropper Confused
Plus of course, excellent casting of the villain.
I'm still feeling like "Noooooo! You can't do that!" Sad

PangolinPie · 03/09/2022 14:23

God I found it really bleak actually. There was no respite for any of the characters, all a bit depressing. But yeah, Hugh made a great baddie.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 03/09/2022 14:29

People who liked this film will like Inheritance, it was on Netflix, not sure if it's still on there.

I think you've hit the nail on the head. We aren't used to the hero being killed by the villain so when it does happen it feels more disturbing.

I felt the same way after Promising Young Woman.

I thought it was brilliant. That poor woman having to watch him dismembering his victim knowing that she was next. Aside from the last victim there was no real evidance left. I did wonder though about mobile phone evidence, couldn't all of the victims phones be traced to his house, even if he got rid of them later?

I think when he attacked and killed Ravi he got a huge psychotic kick out of it and wanted to do it again and again. It's not unusual for serial killers to have a type I think.
