Has anyone else seen this yet? I just went on my own to watch it and loved it. Very beautiful film.. had leaky eyes by the end!

Not seen it yet but loved the book. Have you read the book? Is it a good adaptation?

Jellywobblescobbles · 25/07/2022 16:37

I haven’t, but reviews say people are pleased that the film kept to the story.

I read the reviews and it was slated. The book is good. Maybe if you haven't read the book it makes a difference?

Jellywobblescobbles · 25/07/2022 16:44

Well my own review was that I liked it. 😀

I read (and loved) the book. Saw the film last night. I also read the scathing reviews and I cannot just understand why it’s been rated so low. It was brilliant - a very faithful adaptation. Only thing was I was expecting certain flashback scenes key to the story that never came!

Anothernosebleed · 25/07/2022 18:05

Loved the book, loved the film, completely puzzled by the shit reviews.

Nospringchickendipper · 25/07/2022 18:08

I’d read the book and and read the reviews so went thinking the film was going to be a disappointment but was pleasantly surprised.
My daughter had read the book as well and we both enjoyed the film.

xalo · 25/07/2022 18:26

Loved the book and the film.
Ending of the film was far less detailed though- I would have liked a flashback or two.

TheFormidableMrsC · 25/07/2022 18:37

Can't wait to see this. I recently read the book and was captivated by it. I am glad to hear that the film appears to do it justice.

knottsberryfarm · 25/07/2022 18:46

Can I jump on with a question?
My 14 year old wants to go see this with her friends because of the Taylor Swift song. Wondering if it is suitable? As I recall from the book there was a sexual assault and wondering how it is portrayed?

Staynow · 25/07/2022 18:52

The reviews for the book on amazon were awful I found so I gave it a miss, maybe I'll read it after all.

nomistake · 25/07/2022 18:54

@Staynow eh? Its got 4.7 stars and has been a bestseller for over 2 years.

onemouseplace · 25/07/2022 18:56

I liked the book a lot and quite enjoyed the film - it wasn't amazing, but it wasn't anywhere near as bad as some of the reviews I read made it out to be.

Granted I’m a bit of a wimp but I found the sexual assault scenes to be really graphic. Even though there isn’t necessarily any nudity, it’s distressing to watch

Greentime101 · 25/07/2022 19:16

I loved the book & the film, highly recommend Sometimes I think the reviewers enjoy writing the bad reviews!

MadisonAvenue · 25/07/2022 19:24

I loved the book, I’ve read the reviews for the film, taken them with a pinch of salt and we’re seeing it on Thursday.

knottsberryfarm · 25/07/2022 19:42

@LydiaBennetsUglyBonnet
Thank you.

Jellywobblescobbles · 25/07/2022 19:51

I just got the book today and I’m interested to read the story. I agree that the end of the film needed flashbacks.

I am half way through the book and I am struggling.
DD wants to go to the cinema to see it, but she has suggested I read the book first.
It's all a little dreary, full of cliches and stereotyping- I will finish it, but not a book that is noteworthy or memorable.

QueenCoconut · 25/07/2022 19:59

I went to see the movie on Saturday, loved it !

LetsGoFlyAKiteee · 25/07/2022 20:00

Hadn't read the book and was going to see based on trailer but really enjoyed it! Think it helped the scenery was so beautiful and the ending was lovely in its own special way

TheHorrorOfIt · 25/07/2022 20:10

I loved it - the landscapes and all the nature was gorgeous, and I thought it was really well put together.

@knottsberryfarm The sexual assault was horrible but also so was the domestic violence. I don’t know if I am getting more sensitive in my old age but I kept cringing and flinching. BTW the Taylor Swift song is only at the end credits, not within the film itself

Hallelujah2020 · 26/07/2022 18:25

Saw the film on Saturday having not got into the book. Really really enjoyed the film

I’m now reading the book and having no issues getting into it this time

LyndaSnellsSniff · 26/07/2022 22:38

I enjoyed the book very much but found the writing style lost some of its detail and intricacy as the story unfolded. I found the physical descriptions of Kya a bit clunky (eg "Kya wore cut off shorts that showcased her long legs" sort of thing).

I really enjoyed the film and was very glad it was faithful to the book.
