I suppose it is one of those things where you know what you are going to get but from the trailers it looks a bit like Agatha Christie "The Blue Train" I suspect I will go.

Was much better than the first which I loved
I also think Henry talbot should have been back at the very end.
Even if they'd just shown the back of his head (stunt double?)

Toddlerteaplease · 07/05/2022 22:01

I watched the first film again yesterday and this is much better!

EspeciallyDistracted · 08/05/2022 07:59

I went last night, enjoyed it enormously, it was far better than the first film. Flirtations, emotional highs and lows, lots of funny one-liners, and all the beautiful scenery and costumes. What’s not to like.

ChorleyFMcominginyourears · 08/05/2022 20:48

I went yesterday afternoon with a friend, loved it!

VioletLemon · 08/05/2022 20:55

Go, you will love it. Cheesy hammy joy!!

LaurieFairyCake · 08/05/2022 20:57

It's very good and very funny - and totally stupid - loved it so much

I took my Dh, who has never knowingly watched an episode without browsing on his phone the whole time - and he laughed all the way through it

It's really, really well done - much sharper observation than I've seen in the series

I loved the series but the first film was shite

Having said that, I plan on going to watch it by myself on my day off. Never been to the cinema alone. This seems like the perfect time to correct that Grin

I went on my own last week (first time alone), booked an aisle seat as then I wouldn't be sat between 2 strangers and ended up on a row by myself!

Loved every moment and so relaxing watching by myself!

Go and enjoy!

MarshaBradyo · 08/05/2022 21:03

The first film was terrible so I’m glad to read this one is better

I liked the series

I'm trying to workboat the timelines. If Robert was born in 1875, and Edith was born in 1891 or 1893. It gets mentioned in one episode. It doesn't work as he's have married very very young. Especially as Edith is the second child.

Mary 1892, Edith 1894,Sybil 1896 seems about right.

I went to see it this afternoon, really enjoyed it. Have to say that as my cousin is in it ....

Toddlerteaplease · 10/05/2022 00:41

Saw it again with my friend, (who snoozed through the important bits) but he really enjoyed it. In the series finale, Lord Merton is supposedly dying of pernicious anaemia. But Cora's isn't terminal?!

Yes I wondered about this too.

EspeciallyDistracted · 10/05/2022 06:32

That was the only bit that really jarred for me, when Cora told Lord G about the diagnosis, Hugh Bonneville didn't act the response very well and apart from adding a bit of jeopardy it didn't do anything for the plot overall. I also thought pernicious anaemia was still to this day very serious and hard to treat, not something to be brushed off lightly.

ILookAtTheFloor · 10/05/2022 13:49

The pernicious anemia thing did grind my gears cos didn't Lord Merton have that do when they thought he was going to book off!? Couldn't there have been an alternative diagnosis but pernicious anemia again? Thought the village doc might've recognised or had an inkling from last time!

Having said that, I enjoyed way more than the first film.

Furries · 11/05/2022 01:18

Roughly, I think things improved slightly in medical knowledge between Lord Merton and Cora. Was pleased to see it highlighted again, am wondering if someone involved in the series/film has experience of it. It might no longer be a death sentence, but that depends on it being diagnosed/treated properly - symptoms often get dismissed nowadays.

Loved the film - stunning scenery, great costumes and that lovely “feel-good” of seeing all the characters again.

Slightly disappointed that no-one from my past has left me a villa/mansion somewhere like that!

Went to watch last night. Lovely film with lots of laughs, beautiful costumes. So glad that barrow got his happy ending.

Dillydollydingdong · 12/05/2022 08:45

I saw it on Tuesday and I loved it. It's a feel-good film. Lots of sub plots, lovely scenery, it's funny and heartwarming. I might have to go and see it again.

I hope it worked out! I can never unsee Fred West, now, though when I see his namesake on screen!

TokyoSushi · 12/05/2022 09:26

I saw it last night, I absolutely loved it! Beautiful scenery, lovely easy watching, fabulous!

Just been to see it again. Dr C does say that few years ago it would have been fatal, but is now treatable. He adds that the treatment is fairly grim. It is odd that they chose the same condition though.

upinaballoon · 16/05/2022 22:20

I need another film just as long to have a good slow look at all the costumes. I don't think any woman wore the same outfit twice, except the servants, and those outfits were worth a closer examination. Oh, plot not bad at all.🙂

Miilkywhitemoonlight · 16/05/2022 22:28

Saw it enjoyed it but it felt like a long promotional trailer for a new tv series of Downten Abbey

NannyOggsWhiskyStash · 19/05/2022 07:33

Watched it last week, and I recommend it. It was a lot of fun, and had some great feel good moments.

I can't believe that Daisy is still a
Kitchen maid after almost 20 years. And what happed to Carson's tremor!

She was made assistant cook in series 5 wasn't she? Around the time she took her exams.

I agree with the poster who summed it up as hokum but enjoyable hokum!

After all the discussion about Mr Mason did they ever actually explain what he and Mrs patmore decided to do? They were chatting about it while they were being extras but they never actually said what the decision was!

Also surprised they couldn't get Matthew goode even for a brief cameo. Surely he should have been st the (trying to avoid spoilers) big event at the end? Seems ridiculous that they spent a whole season detailing exactly why this posh dark haired man was much better suited for Mary than any of the hundreds of other posh dark haired men that were interested in her since Matthew died only to never see him again since c.1924!!!!

upinaballoon · 23/05/2022 12:46

Yes, lateto, I thought it was a bit sad and odd that M. Goode wasn't there. Now I'll have to look him up to see what he's been doing lately.
