having enjoyed thinking of all the bad films I've seen, I'd love to know what film do you still watch, even though you know the script off by heart?
Grand Budapest Hotel for me (even though I really dislike the rest of Wes Anderson's films)

Sweet Home Alabama.

Mainly because I will have the Tiffany store closed down for me one day too and Josh Lucas is divine.

Cried my eyes out when she visited the dogs grave!

Alien. And Aliens. I know all the dialogue and everything-I once spent an evening only replying to Dh in lines from the film; he didn't enjoy that much.

Flumo · 14/02/2022 20:50

Bizarrely, Johnny English Reborn. Not normally my kind of thing and I actively dislike most of Rowan Atkinson's other stuff, but I always laugh til I cry at that film, even though I know exactly what is coming next.

Orpheline · 20/02/2022 08:38

Untouchable

Lysianthus · 21/02/2022 16:03

Erin Brokovich. The Philadelphia Story. Guess who's coming to dinner.

Juniper68 · 27/02/2022 00:48

@Keladrythesaviour

The Walk - with Michael Sheen and James Nesbitt et al. Makes.me cry every time but I'm just obsessed with the idea of doing a life changing walk, and the way it changed Sheen's character's mindset etc. Just fabulous.
The Way. Yes me too.

Shawshank Redemption

I know the script by heart for Pretty Woman, Staying Alive, Flash dance and though it's not a film, the Anne of green gables series from the 80s

Orpheline · 15/03/2022 14:12

Untouchable's on Netflix now!

PurpleHollyhocks · 15/03/2022 14:25

Films I have watched multiple times fall in to two camps
I think they are incredible and get something new every time I watch them,
Goodfellas
Godfather trilogy
Dr zhivago,
Schindler’s list,
Saving private Ryan
Rear window

Films that make me feel good
Any Indiana Jones
It’s complicated
ET
High society
Steel magnolias
Paddington 1 and 2
Marley and me

XenoBitch · 15/03/2022 20:09

Any of the Alien films.
Also, Fifth Element, and Galaxy Quest.

DementedPanda · 15/03/2022 20:11

Not a film, but the series Vikings. I could watch them over and over again

CampervanQueen · 15/03/2022 20:18

My go-to cheer-me-up films:

All the Harry Potters, even the awful ones! And some of the soundtracks are just fantastic.
LOTR trilogy
Bridesmaids
Chicago
Billy Elliott
Stardust - can't believe this hasn't come up yet! It's glorious, and even though I am a die-hard Neil Gaiman fan, I think better than the book.
Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves. Complete cheese-fest but sometimes it's what you need (and has a surprisingly good soundtrack). It's also one of my DSis' go-to films, and we text each other random lines when watching it
Pirates of the Caribbean - the first one. Another one with a great soundtrack

LoveFall · 15/03/2022 20:27

@bigdecisionstomake

The Big Chill...practically know the script off by heart and a banging soundtrack too. It's my go to for sad days, happy days and general needing comfort days.

Same here. I love that movie. The soundtrack itself is great.

Showing my age i think. William Hurt was genius in it.

Bunce1 · 15/03/2022 20:36

I rewatched them shawahank redemption with Emmy 13 year old and it was really moving to watch them experience that film

The blind side
Erin Brokowitz
Goodfellas
Apocalypse Now
Platoon
Wonder
A tree grows in Brooklyn
Calamity Jane
Carousel
World war z
Remains of the Day
Sing 2
Pitch perfect
The hangover
Wolf of Wall Street
Dude where’s my car (suitably stoned though)
Magnolia
Rear window
Elf
Vanilla sky (trash but I love it)
A life less ordinary
Walter Mitty
Blackfish (documentary)
This is 40
Dancer in the Dark

Some films are there cos they are so easy and so comforting and i can watch them over and over again and some are just the BEST of their genre and make me feel something every time. Some are challenging, but my tolerance for that is dwindling.
