A Castle for Christmas

I'm not the biggest fan of the cheesy Netflix Christmas film but I quite enjoyed this one! Brooke Shields is charming and Cary Elwes does well as the curmudgeonly duke. I had a massive crush on him in his Lady Jane/Princess Bride heyday!

And Scotland looks gorgeous, though I'm not sure how realistic the depiction of the Highland village is! In fact I suspect it wasn't even filmed in the Highlands, but it's a fun way to kill 90 mins on a cold night.

It was the perfect accompaniment to wrapping presents yesterday.

OTT, cringey, predictable, so much wrong with it, but funny in places. Just don't take it seriously (why would you?).

Loved the yarn-bombing. Hours and hours of work for a 5 second shot!

Oh and the dog deserves an Oscar.

I’m Scottish & I loved it, it was definitely filmed partly in Scotland as I recognised a few places, Inveraray for example. It’s a fun light hearted romantic movie & I thought Brooke Shields was great in it as well as the many actual genuine Scottish actors. 5 stars from me.

It was Ridiculously cheesy like these films always are, but it was still nice to see a story focused on older generations. Even the background characters romantic storylines were mostly older. Most of the time old just means a woman who is about to get to old for having kids

It was easy watching although very silly!

I really enjoyed Holidate, and Single All The Way was a refreshing take on the classic format.

Another cheesy movie along the same lines is the Princess Switch. The 2nd and 3rd were entirely filmed in Scotland.

@KillingMeDeftly

Apparently that was a cameo by two characters from another Netflix Christmas film. I think The Princess Switch.
Mark Fleischmann is is the Princess Switch. The "evil lady" would have been Vanessa Hudgens, who plays three of the main characters who are all lookalikes.

(I am not a massive Princess Switch fan. I worked on it for a couple of days in January in East Lothian).

Oh this was marvellous. The lovely weather. The amazing Christmas lights abs decorations - trees in every room 😂 the knitting and jolly locals. Also worried about the buffet being out all day. And the scene where she hadn’t got round to putting on the top half of her dress. Bonkers but very watchable

DifficultBloodyWoman · 25/12/2021 22:10

It was a terrible film (but in a lovely way)!

Utterly predictable plot, geographically WRONG, full of Scottish stereotypes and a great way to waste an hour or two (I watched it last week).

I consider these to be the Mills and Boon’s of TV and film. (I also quite like a Mills and Boon now and then)

Kshhuxnxk · 25/12/2021 22:47

Great but rubbish made for tv movie that Christmas presents are wrapped to. Yes filmed entirely in Scotland and some of it in Culross which is next village to mine.

It was the perfect trash. Not to get all mumsnetty here but the Duke had quite a few red flags. His temper!!
