Day off. Currently sat watching serendipity, must be 20 years old now I’m guessing. I really loved the Annie Lennox song- waiting in vein. Another - city of angels, that made me cry. What’s your favourite cheesy/ romantic movie you like too watch alone?

Also love Sense and Sensibility

Letters to Juliet with Amanda Seyfried in it

Sleepless in Seattle
City of Angels
Brief Encounter

devildeepbluesea · 30/10/2021 14:48

I love Shirley Valentine too. And Educating Rita (still romantic IMO, just not about a couple).

Also, and I'm showing my age here,
The Slipper and the Rose
Invitation To The Wedding

RhubarbCustardy · 30/10/2021 16:30

All of the above plus Pitch Perfect plus all of those street dance films that have a romance chucked in there somewhere!

Vargas · 30/10/2021 16:33

Crazy Stupid Love. I've watched many many times...

Notonthestairs · 30/10/2021 16:36

I love all of these - especially The Proposal and Crazy, Stupid Love.

I'll add Holidate and Dash & Lily from Netflix.

stealingbeauty · 30/10/2021 16:37

Clueless. I’ve seen it so many times.

I don't even know what it's called, because I seem to only ever see the last quarter or so of it, but it has Sandra Bullock as a nasty publisher who apparently persuades Ryan Reynolds to marry her for a visa or she gets deported, and there's a lot of adorable cuteness with his adorable family in adorable small town Alaska. (Have just googled -- it's called The Proposal, and there's a lot more plot than I've ever seen, because I only ever seem to tune in when she's being charmed by his family.)

Green Card, partly because Gerard Depardieu clearly just learned his lines phonetically in English and seldom has any idea what he's actually saying. And Andie McDowell gives good prim and buttoned up.

My Best Friend's Wedding, which to be honest has no redeeming features (Julia Roberts' character is a total psychopath and Dylan Whatsit is bland) apart from a scene in which Rupert Everett sings a Dionne Warwick song in a lobster restaurant. Though I do quite like the scene where Cameron Diaz does a really bad rendition of 'Just Don't Know What To Do With Myself'. Maybe it should have been a musical?

Runaway Bride, despite thinking Richard Gere is a charmless sleazeball -- for more smalltown folksiness and Julia Roberts having an identity crisis about eggs, and it has Joan Cusack in it.

Pieceofpurplesky · 30/10/2021 16:49

Crazy Rich Asians - the wedding scene is amazing.
The Holiday
Love Actually
Legally Blonde
Pretty in Pink

MintyGreenDream · 30/10/2021 16:53

Maid in Manhattan.
Dirty Dancing.

Idolovetrees · 30/10/2021 16:58

I like The mirror has two faces with Barbara Streisand and Geoff Bridges.

colouringindoors · 30/10/2021 19:17

Another Sandra Bullock film (massively underrated actress imho)

Two Weeks Notice. Pure silliness Grin

Izzy24 · 06/11/2021 05:48

Yes, guilty of virtually all these (except The Holiday).

And add Housesitter 😊

Riverlee · 06/11/2021 07:12

Bridget Jones

MrsLargeEmbodied · 22/11/2021 09:10

how to lose a guy
ten things i hate about you
clueless
moulin rouge
west side story
the sound of music

YourFinestPantaloons · 22/11/2021 23:15

What's Your Number

Unbelievably funny and underrated.

My favourite parts are where it she pretends to be British to impress Martin Freeman but gets pissed and goes all Eliza Doolittle and even says "All I want is a room somewhere, far away from the cold night air" and the flashback to when she slept with a puppeteer and the puppet joins in GrinGrin

DoucheCanoe · 22/11/2021 23:23

I like to watch the Twilight Saga when it's on in the wee hours or when DH is away and debate with myself which one I'd choose - Jacob is much prettier but I have always had a thing about vampires... Blush

Romy and Michelle was one of my favourites as a teen along with 10 things I hate about you and She's all that!

Christmasmorning519 · 29/12/2021 07:55

Bridges of Maddison County . Not sure if it’s cheesy as such but I cry every time.

MsAmerica · 29/12/2021 23:49

@colouringindoors

Ooooo a few to chose from!

Notting Hill
Sense and Sensibility
Leap Year
The Holiday
Pride and Prejudice

I think I'll object to anyone calling Jane Austen cheesy.
Redcrayons · 29/12/2021 23:55

Another one for the Proposal and The Holiday.

Also Leap Year, you don’t even need to watch the end of the trailer to know what’s going To happen.
