Very sad about the ending 😓

Where do you think the franchise will go?

Do you really think they'll have a female lead? Or will Craig return as a reinvented other guy?!

I hope this is it the last one, no more movies they killed him off I mean lets think about it, its a person who has lived through 3 or 4 different actors in real life he would be mega old.

I just think the movies now they produce of bond just feels out of touch. A good spy movie but thats it nothing more, none of that specialness the previous ones had.

postingfortraffichere · 03/10/2021 21:50

I agree - I was in a state of shock at the end as I had no idea it was supposed to happen, but then half hour later I thought - it kinda feels like the logical, sensible thing to do.

No film franchise can go on for eternity and the messages/storylines of bond are out of touch in the modern world for sure.

It does feel like it needs reinventing.

I think it will not be "James Bond " anymore but a 00 franchise action movies

FizzyPink · 03/10/2021 22:11

We stayed right till the end and it said “Bond will return” so assume they’re setting it up for another film. No idea how though, there’s no escaping that he died in that blast at the end

postingfortraffichere · 03/10/2021 22:11

@jesusmaryjosephandtheweedonkey yes I feel like they have paved the way to have females/ POC or whoever they want as the main character without criticism - they know to have a James Bond that's anything other than middle aged white man os too risky so they've gone down a route where they can do what they like.

I think I like it - the modern world needs a reinvention of James Bond

OP posts:
Dreamstate · 03/10/2021 22:16

In a way they can make Bond return, we never saw him actually die for all we know he dived off the cliff and faked his death to spare his lover and child from knowing he was alive.

That's the only way they can bring him back

Or they produce a new person who takes on 007 number

postingfortraffichere · 03/10/2021 22:18

Or they produce a new person who takes on 007 number

I think they'll try this and see how it goes down for a few films and if it pans, bring him back like you said - ie he faked his own death or something like that

KingHiss · 03/10/2021 22:20

"Bond" movies are the franchise not 007 movies. Too much history, cash invested in "Bond" to have him erased.
Unless the producers think they can reboot the whole 50+ years into something new that younger viewers will suck up with no knowledge that most is based on books written in the 1950's.

trulyconfuseddotcom · 03/10/2021 22:25

We saw it today and my daughter suggested that 'Bond will return' means his daughter will grow up to be a kickass spy, sounds good to me!

Yellow85 · 03/10/2021 22:25

I’m thinking it’ll be just ‘Bond’ and not ‘James Bond’. I thought maybe having a daughter was setting us up for a female lead next movie…fast forward 15-20 years and his daughter takes then reins…

Dreamstate · 03/10/2021 22:40

To be honest I loved the first 25 mins leading up to the intro song and the locations and scenes are amazing but I got a bit confused about the villiams. All of a sudden spectre is all dead and then Blofield. Then there is a new villain and I don't really get what his gripe is, how did his face get burned like nothing really made sense to me.

I even nodded off for a minute at some point GrinBlush

postingfortraffichere · 03/10/2021 22:42

@Dreamstate his burned face was a bit weird I agree - or just misplaced, no need/reason for it!

OP posts:
backinthebox · 03/10/2021 23:05

I thought the reason his face was scarred was because Madeleine's father used a biological weapon his parents were working on for Spectre to kill them on Blofeld's orders, and he was present at their assassination but survived albeit traumatised and horribly scarred? This was his reason for wanting Blofeld dead and why he came after Madeleine. It was explained in the movie.

Laughingravy · 04/10/2021 00:34

I'd like them to go back to the original books and period and do them as Fleming wrote them.

TaraR2020 · 04/10/2021 00:53

I had a feeling all through the film they were going to kill him off so I wasn't surprised.

None of the bond films have been especially sequential right? They redid several stories for the Craig films, I took it as them just wiping the slate clean for a fresh actor with a fresh take.

billyt · 04/10/2021 14:19

Did it not say 'James Bond' will return? I thought it did.

Hope it won't be another Bobby Ewing shower sceneShock

If they decide he survives, then it will probably be that he found somewhere to hide from the devastation even though he was still standing outside when the first cluster hit.

I know Daniel Craig is finished as Bond(well, at the moment he says so) but I hope they do not re-cast James Bond with a female lead. The whole character just doesn't fit with this.

That’s what I wondered, maybe the female 007 will do the next one, and she can be killed & replaced as needs be, maybe when the daughter comes of age. I missed ‘Bond will return’ as I legged it straight out to save my car from parking wardens!
TaraR2020 · 04/10/2021 15:21

Barbara Broccoli had been quite emphatic about not bringing in a female Bond, I think. I'm glad if not least because the dd stepping into fathers shoes trope is so clichéd

PinkFootstool · 04/10/2021 15:29

The family were poisoned with foxgloves - digitalis - but I don't know about that causing skin issues.

I think they'll reboot James Bond in the modern day as a younger man. They've basically done that before, plus plenty of series of films aren't much on timelines.

But I'd also love to see Bond's daughter grow up to be kickass. The principle is similar to Jack Ryan in the Tom Clancy books, with Jack Ryan Jr becoming the focus of the series when Dad was too old to be running around on submarines with guns still.

flipflopping · 04/10/2021 15:47

It said "James Bond will return". I think he'll miraculously survive somehow, albeit as a new actor.

NewspaperTaxis · 05/10/2021 19:40

Maybe he'll turn out to be a Deadpool character, who can't be killed!

MorganSeventh · 05/10/2021 19:51

Theyll just reboot with a new actor as James Bond, I think. I don't imagine it will be any more involved than that. It's never been 'explained' in any of the previous incarnations why Bond has changed, has it?

Agree - there’s no story continuity between the films when the actor changes (and before DC, not much in the films with the same actor in them even! ) so they’ll just start again.

Agree. The Daniel Craig era has been the only one in which the story arc crossed more than one film, except in a very vague way. Bond wanting revenge on Blofeld for killing Tracy in OHMSS was referenced in You Only Live Twice, but that's about it. And that's actually a good example of how the stories just reinvent themselves with each Bond - logically, Daniel Craig, playing Bond at the end of his life (when everything in all the previous Bond films has already happened to him) should have been seeking revenge on Blofeld for killing Tracy, as well as Vesper, but Tracy is never mentioned.

They will have to replace the whole supporting cast, as the current M, Q and Moneypenny all know that Craig's Bond is dead. But they will just come back with a whole new team and start afresh.

Agree. And reboots with a female cast replacing a male one are naff and rarely work - Ghostbusters being an example.

Bond is fucked up in a particularly masculine way. Women just don't behave like that (I appreciate that most men don't; either 😉). The heroine in Kickass works because the film is knowingly subverting normal female behaviour - you're not supposed to believe that it's real. Bond films - even though they have many aspects that are fantastical - are supposed to be believable in the moment.
