Can't believe there's no thread on Cruella yet! Went to see it with my two teenage daughters this week. Was soooo good! Surpassed all my expectations. Amazing costumes and set, Emma Stone and Emma Thompson both brilliant. Really cool soundtrack. Like a dark(er) 'Devil Wears Prada'

Dying to see it but DD12 went with her mates and not suitable for DD2. Seems weird to just go with DD3 (shes 3 months old).

Serpenta · 05/06/2021 23:36

In my mind Cruella is an older woman, and I thought Glenn Close make a great Ms De Vil. Does Emma Stone not seem very young in the role?

youngestisapsycho · 05/06/2021 23:37

Isn’t it the story of how she became the Cruella we see in 101 Dalmations?

Serpenta · 05/06/2021 23:40

Ah, that makes sense then!

I do like Emma Stone.

youngestisapsycho · 05/06/2021 23:41

It does look good... will go see with DD 😊

Scbchl · 05/06/2021 23:43

I just watched it tonight and thought it was one of the worst films Iv ever watched. Really boring.

ThatSchoolOfficeLady · 05/06/2021 23:44

Was expecting not much at all, but it was really funny with a clever plot and ace music. Wink and Buddy were the cherry on top 😂

whoshouldItalkto · 05/06/2021 23:45

I really enjoyed it as did my DDs - but it really doesn’t explain why in later life she wants to skin Dalmatian pups. In fact she seems very kindly disposed to dalmatians at the end.

secretfreckle · 06/06/2021 00:00

The only bit that didn't make sense to me was the 'gifting' of the two Dalmatians at the end. How does that fit in with 101 Dalmatians?

MissCruellaDeVil · 06/06/2021 00:00

Me and the DC enjoyed it, although I don't get the link to how she became a puppy killer in later life, agree it feels like she should have been an older lady. Emma Stone played her as a younger 20 something.

Yellowshirt · 06/06/2021 00:00

An absolutely shocking Disney film. Probably the worst storyline ever .

ThatSchoolOfficeLady · 06/06/2021 00:06

@secretfreckle I think the dalmatians given away at the end were Pongo and Perdita, so Cruella is a prequel to the original 101 Dalmatians?

secretfreckle · 06/06/2021 00:10

@ThatSchoolOfficeLady yes, they were Perdita and Pongo. But in '101 Dalmatians', they belong to a married couple and Cruella hates Dalmatians, whereas in 'Cruella', she didn't seem to have that hatred

Saw it today. Loved it. Thought both Emma’s were great. Costumes and interiors of some of the buildings were amazing to look at too.
I liked the storyline although I guessed the twist early on.
Thought it had nods to many movies, Matilda, Annie, Oliver, the northern lights, ghostbusters even in one scene, Star Wars, plus classic heist movie.

Daisy1245 · 06/06/2021 21:05

@secretfreckle brilliant film. In 101 Dalmatians they got married after meeting in the park. Both owned their own dog first.

bruffin · 06/06/2021 21:10

in '101 Dalmatians', they belong to a married couple In the book/not sure in the film they meet because of perdita and pongo
MissCruellaDeVil · 06/06/2021 21:15

Now the link finally makes sense! Thank you @Daisy1245

I absolutely LOVED air. Hubbie and DS not so much 😂

AngelDelightUk · 06/06/2021 21:23

It annoyed me so much because parts of it just didn’t ring true to the original 101 Dalmatians

Roger was not a lawyer, and he didn’t know Cruella prior to Anita introducing them

Pongo and Perdy weren’t brother and sister, which it tried to say at the end

If Cruella bred Pongo and Perdy, she would have known that Dalmatians are born without spots, and also would’ve been mentioned when she wanted all the pups that she was “grandma”. Plus she doesn’t own three Dalmatians in 101 Dalmatians, she hates dogs

RidingTheWaves · 06/06/2021 21:27

Loved it! Saw it today. Fabulous costumes and a great soundtrack.

I've never seen 101 Dalmations though so perhaps that helped.

pheasantsinlove · 06/06/2021 21:28

Would it be suitable for 9 year olds?

MrsWhites · 06/06/2021 21:32

I loved it but think they need to do a sequel (can they do a sequel to a prequel??) to explain what happened between the end of this one and her wanting to skin puppies in 101 dalmatians!

NuzzleandScratch · 06/06/2021 21:32

Was also going to ask about age suitability, I see it's a 12A, and wondering if ok for my 8 (nearly 9) year old.

MissCruellaDeVil · 06/06/2021 21:41

Yes; my children are younger than 9 and loved it!

FionnulaTheCooler · 06/06/2021 21:45

We saw it yesterday and thought it was fab, probably my favourite of the live action Disney movies so far, maybe a tie with Angelina Jolie as Maleficent. I like when they try to do something a bit more fresh and original rather than just remake an animated movie like they did with The Lion King and Beauty and the Beast. Emma Stone and Emma Thompson were both great in their roles, quite a few people in my cinema showing were laughing out loud when Emma T was merrily tasering people.
