since lockdown eased?

I really want to see Nomadland on the big screen, but have only had my first vaccination, and also not sure how pleasant an experience it will be with a mask etc.

How has it been for others?

Yes! Every day since they opened on Wednesday! I'd forgotten how LOUD the cinema is 😂 my local is a multiplex, I go in the afternoon, not at all busy and apart from a family bringing in a 2yr old in a pushchair and a newborn carried in their arms, it has been just great!

Ostara212 · 22/05/2021 19:18

Old, how has the mask wearing been? Vue are claiming that they have staff checking you put your mask up when not eating or drinking.

MarcelineMissouri · 22/05/2021 19:20

We went last night. It was just wonderful to be back. You don’t need to wear a mask while eating or drinking and to be honest I think most people do not wear a mask once in screen. But as the seats are socially distanced it was fine. We really enjoyed it.

MrsWooster · 22/05/2021 19:26

Just got back. It was fab and didn’t notice the mask at all-lost in the film.

GrownUpBeans · 22/05/2021 20:30

I saw Nomadland this week. Really enjoyed it. Agree that the cinema seems very loud! I didn't mind wearing a mask, I forgot about it quite quickly.

middleeasternpromise · 22/05/2021 20:35

Saw Nomadland matinee showing - 6 people in a massive cinema it was lush.

we were all miles apart and the film was worth it on a big screen

Vegiereggie · 22/05/2021 20:38

Went today with the kids. Not many people in the cinema, adults all wearing masks which was absolutely fine. It was a cineworld cinema and the had a little film about why cinemas are wonderful at the start. I wept a little. It felt so lovely to be in a cinema and to see how much the children enjoyed it too. We went to the cinema the day before the first lockdown so it felt quite poignant. I had a nap too.

Yes went to see Nomadland. Plenty of space, everyone including the cinema ushers wearing masks (the usher who spoke just before the start of the film to announce it did not remove her mask to do so).

Only difference was that you could not go into the screen until about five minutes beforehand. About 15-20 people in a cinema that seats about 150.

We are going late this afternoon, me, DH and 2 teen DCs all off to see a Peter Rabbit 2 at the Vue cinema about 30 mins away from us.

Yes! I started going right away, to support the movie business - and I love empty theaters, anyway.

One theater chain has markers six feet apart to remind people to keep a safe distance, and they incorporated a movie theme, so that each marker is a circle with a movie quote. Like "To infinity and beyond - but at least six feet away" or "Here's looking at you, kid - from six feet away."

Yes went on Sunday with my daughter to see The Unholy. It’s a Cineworld in a major city. Quite empty, we didn’t wear masks once seated no one else was and didn’t say anywhere you had to although I was eating for most of the film 😂. I wept a bit at the little film about how important cinemas are at the beginning. I was a bit concerned how empty the cinema was and that all the comments above comment on how quiet it was. I worry cinemas won’t be viable.

MyDcAreMarvel · 26/05/2021 13:18

Nomadland is on prime, it’s ok but not necessary to see it in the cinema. It’s not like it has special affects.

Abracadabra12345 · 26/05/2021 13:23

We went to see Peter Rabbit 2 and felt very safe, and unrestricted. It was great to hear the kids giggling, we were an adult family and laughed too. Wonderful trip out. The cinema was busy in the lobby but very well-managed. I adore the cinema and felt its loss keenly. Looking around, so had a lot of other people. Just do it, OP!

Went to see spiral on the Monday we went into level 2 (Scotland) small two screen cinema. Very socially distanced. Masks on going in and then not needed when eating or drinking. Realistically people just took them off in their seats as they were sipping on juice and slowly eating popcorn.

However everyone put them back on as people started moving about at the end. Nobody was checking during the movie.

DannyGirl88 · 29/05/2021 22:14

Peter Rabbit 2 with the kids.
It was great to be back.

£4.99 entry

Popcorn, a drink and sweets £15.99 Confused

Saw nomadland on Disney plus. Enjoyed it. Still feel nervous about the cinema and know I would get annoyed at non mask wearers.

RickiTarr · 29/05/2021 22:20

No but I had my second jab yesterday so looking forward to it again soon.

ChampagneWorries · 29/05/2021 22:24

We went last week. No one wearing masks whilst watching the film and no one policing it.

Only half of the ice cream flavours. Very limited sweets etc. This was at Vue.

rookiemere · 29/05/2021 22:27

Went with my friend to see My New York Year. We've had both our vaccinations. 4 people in a huge cinema, we had coffees so were drinking those initially and didn't put masks on until we stood up at the end - there was at least 12 foot between us and nearest other person.

Mumteedum · 29/05/2021 22:29

When it's socially distanced, how are they arranging seats, I couldn't tell from booking site. Looked like 2m apart along the row but then you might be sat with someone straight behind? I don't fancy that much but would be happy to go if more spread out than that.

mnahmnah · 29/05/2021 22:31

I took DC to see Peter rabbit last weekend. Plenty of space between everyone and it was booked to it’s full limited amount. Once we were seated i didn’t see any staff in there at all, so no mask checking. I was eating and drinking, so no mask required. I thought it was all done very well, and I am someone who has been very careful throughout the last year.

caringcarer · 29/05/2021 22:31

My 2 adult sons went together on Monday. They have just restarted their Ocean cards.

mnahmnah · 29/05/2021 22:32

Should add, this was at Vue and in one of the lowest covid areas in the country at the moment

How was the Unholy? Maybe we'll go for that or the Conjuring.
