So, the Duke of Hastings as James Bond? What do we reckon?

The hot money is now on Rege-Jean Page as the next Bond.

I love a game of fantasy casting, but RJP wouldn’t have occurred to me as fantasy casting spontaneously because I’ve never seen him in anything else so just think of him as “that bloke from Bridgerton”.

However now it’s been mentioned he’s actually the first person rumoured who genuinely seems like a perfect fit. Everyone else in the running has been too skinny, too short, too old, can’t play posh, too thespy, too famous, not British enough, or just not fanciable enough. I’m not an obsessive fan but he’s objectively very pretty indeed.

What does everyone else think? Finally the perfect solution? British, 31, tall, can play posh, fit as hell.

James Norton has a bit of a cruel edge in his eyes.

Bridgerton looks too friendly.

LadyIsabellaWrotham · 10/04/2021 12:16

And RJP has a global profile because of Bridgerton which Norton doesn’t, he’s really only known in the UK. And UK audiences will always go and watch Bond, they’d turn up if you cast Wee Jimmie Crankie.

If the last Craig Bond film is an enormous hit then that doesn’t necessarily matter, they could benefit from casting someone less well known, but if they think they need to expand the audience then someone who’s got an international reputation and fan base would be a plus.

Yes please!!!! He made Bedtime Stories sexy, imagine him as Bond......

WhiskersPete · 10/04/2021 12:27

I saw Hastings and thought Ted Hastings I dont think hes quite suitable!

Brilliant

shakeitoffshakeacocktail · 10/04/2021 12:28

I can't see any negative. I've only ever enjoyed the Daniel Craig bonds hated all the others

Would definitely watch RJP I hate cheesey bonds he has a teasing nonchalance plus sex appeal a bit of arrogance and physical strength that I want to see.

Oneeyeopen · 10/04/2021 12:32

I think James Norton looks more like a cool villain.
RJP would be a good Bond for me.
Is he too pretty for the men though?
Our poor dp's have to imagine themselves as a potential Bond when they're driving on the autobahn!

AnotherEmma · 10/04/2021 13:56

I don't think RJP is a great actor but I don't care Grin

BatleyTownswomensGuild · 10/04/2021 13:57

OMG YES!! 😍😍😍

Whitney168 · 10/04/2021 15:26

I wonder when they're set to announce? The conversation seems to have been going on forever.

It does seem significant that RJP not going back for second series of what seems to have been a big hit, and I do think there's a fair chance we'll have an ethnic Bond next time. I just would have thought they'd have want it kept quiet if it were to be him.

Redcrayons · 10/04/2021 15:32

I’ve only seen him in Bridgerton and I didn’t think he was particularly good in that.

That said, he’s smoking hot, so I’ll cope.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 10/04/2021 15:47

His part in the next set of books isn't too big though.

Campervan69 · 10/04/2021 15:51

It's a yes from me. He is smoking in Bridgerton.

cathyandclare · 10/04/2021 15:54

@ChardonnaysPetDragon

I think he's said he's not doing any further Bridgertons. Can't blame him, if they follow the books there's not much for the DoH to do.
ChardonnaysPetDragon · 10/04/2021 16:03

I’m so surprised he was in For the people.

He was hot in bridgerton, but I couldn’t for the life of me recall him in FTP.

SimonJT · 10/04/2021 16:13

Firstly please don’t hurt me.

Secondly no, from what I’ve seen he isn’t a great actor, I know in the past most Bonds were poor actors, but it would be nice to maintain the change in that area that Daniel Craig made.

fluckityfluckfluck · 10/04/2021 16:16

I fancy Sam Heughan as bond - in more ways than one

JadeSeahorse · 10/04/2021 16:23

Well normally DH has to drag me to the cinema to watch the latest Bond movie.

If RJP gets the part, rest assured it will be me doing the dragging.😋

TheVolturi · 10/04/2021 16:27

Had to Google, he's a bonny lad isn't he, he will do!

Areyouactuallyseriousrightnow · 10/04/2021 16:29

It’s a yes from me I might actually watch one if he was in it.

eurochick · 10/04/2021 16:37

He looks the part but I'm not sure his acting skills are quite there...

bunglebee · 10/04/2021 16:39

I'm there for that. Bond doesn't actually have to act all that much Grin

LittleDoritt · 10/04/2021 16:43

He's very easy on the eye but his acting is dreadful.

UnsolicitedDickPic · 10/04/2021 17:57

@Whitney168 From what I've read he was never meant to go back for a second season; the DoH doesn't really show up in the other books, and RJP took the role on the understanding it was a one series gig and then he was free to do other stuff.

Hopefully Bond. Shit actor but extremely easy on the eye. And that voice! swoons

SpringItIsThen · 14/04/2021 21:19

Quite like the DoH but think he's too pretty/slim/youngish-looking/mommy's baby to fit into the Bond role for me. Not enough handsome yet gruff/tough but charming and older man-but still young look. That's how I've always seen Bond characters.

I think Idris would fit that image better but maybe Rege will work once he's in character.

Daniel Craig is my favourite Bond. He has an air of cold ruthlessness. I struggled with Pierce Brosnan as he just didn't feel like enough of an asshole, he was too likeable, and I think it's also the reason I could never picture Idris as Bond even though I love him.
