Just went to see it and spent the last hour dancing round the house to Pinball Wizard and other Elton gems from Amazon Music. (Did the same after watching Bohemian rhapsody). Currently googling piano teachers as have decided DS must become a music maestro despite showing not an inkling of talent. Anyone else seen Rocketman and felt the same? (Also massively fancy the actor playing Elton).

Pinball Wizard was The Who no?

themimi · 30/05/2019 22:08

?? It was in the film and in the soundtrack? Is it The Who?

Yes Pinball Wizard is from the film Tommy with Roger Daltrey. Elton John might have wrote it tho.
I was disappointed with Rocketman tbh.

bitchfromhell · 30/05/2019 22:15

No idea? Not seeing Rocketman till next week. Sure it was The Who, from the film Tommy?

BrieAndChilli · 30/05/2019 22:19

Just googled and Elton played the role of pinball wizard in a film version of Tommy.

themimi · 30/05/2019 22:21

Belfort why disappointed???

Found the 1st hour ploddingly slow. didn't like stage show feel. Thought there was too much drug taking, we all know he massively indulged, not interested in seeing it.
Was really looking foward to the music, felt 15 secs of a song wasn't enough.
Thought the end was a let down.
Maybe my expectations were too high after BR. LOVED that.

WithAllIntenseAndPurposes · 30/05/2019 23:42

Prob over invested but was massively let down by the supposedly extremely raunchy sex scene...you get more raunch on emmerdale

Funkyslippers · 31/05/2019 09:29

WithAll - what did you want to see?!

I loved the film, didn't think there was much drug taking in it. Infact I thought the first hour was pretty tame. Pinball Wizard was originally by The Who but I think Elton covered it.

WithAllIntenseAndPurposes · 31/05/2019 15:16

I heard it was really raunchy...it wasn't
Oh well

drigon · 02/06/2019 00:35

Just seen this and loved it! The music was excellent and fitted in well with Elton's life story. Everything worked, in my opinion.

Brilliant film
“Warts and all “ not false .. real
Music was great of course ... it’s Elton 😀
Acting brill

I thought it was good fun but not a great film iyswim.

I think the bits about EJ's father not showing affection or interest were a bit overplayed. Most men of that generation would not have shown much outward affection as far as I know, particularly if they were dealing with the after effects of the War.

Not articulating "feelings" is consistent with the times.

Snugglepiggy · 05/06/2019 16:33

I loved it.Far more than I expected and liked the musical extravaganza format rather than straightforward biopic.Made it fresh and different from Bohemian Rhapsody, which I also enjoyed.Indeed I want to see it again soon.I thought Taron Egerton completely nailed the lead role. And Jamie Bell excellent too.Less so the portrayal of his mother which was the only casting mistake I felt, and can't really identify why.
Has made me revisit Eltons earlier music. The soundtrack to my teens.

Lolimax · 05/06/2019 16:37

Going tonight with DD (22). Can't wait!

WithAllIntenseAndPurposes · 05/06/2019 16:42

Jamie Bell is stunning nowadays can't believe he was little Billy Elliot!

buggerthebotox · 05/06/2019 20:39

Agree with you about Jamie Bell!

Took me ages to catch on that the Manager (not Richard Madden - the first one- )was played by none other than Stephen Graham!

noodlenosefraggle · 07/06/2019 17:18

I enjoyed it. I'm not a massive Elton fan, but I liked the way it was done. The ending was a bit rubbish though, with the people turning up at the therapy session I thought, and John Reid turning up saying the same line Elton being a selfish prick 3 times was a bit lazy when he didn't have than many lines! I thought it was a bit of a love letter/apology/thank you to Bernie Taupin too, who came out of it as a decent bloke. Agree Jamie Bell is surprisingly hot!

Toorahtoorahaye · 11/06/2019 09:30

Really enjoyed it, was thrown with the fantasy musical number at the start as was expecting it more to be a straight biopic but great fun. Cast excellent, TE was very good and i liked to learn how important Taupin was as i had no idea. Agree that BDH wasn’t best choice for the mother - wonder why they chose her. The Troubadour scene was great. I want to see him on his last tour now - saw him around 10 yrs ago and he was brilliant

ladymarian · 11/06/2019 18:43

Saw it yesterday. Loved it! I wasn't sure about the musical theatre type parts (I'm really not a fan of proper musicals) but I really enjoyed it all especially Elton's family singing I Want Love. I thought Taron Egerton was incredible especially if he did most/all of the singing.

TraffordTansy · 16/06/2019 11:29

Why did Mark Kermode reference Mumsnet when talking about Rocketman this week?

exWifebeginsat40 · 16/06/2019 11:44

i loved it.

also, the soundtrack is on Amazon Music - i have been irritating my household with it for days.

MockerstheFeManist · 17/06/2019 19:12

So what did Long John Baldry do wrong not to get a mention?

superoz · 18/06/2019 23:47

TraffordTansy I had to google it after the podcast and it’s down to this thread:
www.mumsnet.com/Talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/3598085-Rocketman-sex-scene?pg=1&order=

It went viral!

LittleAndOften · 18/06/2019 23:55

Best film I've seen in years. I could go back to the cinema tomorrow and happily watch it again. Don't think I've said that about any other film ever!
