Liked it! Good tunes, story stood up, and sad/moving at times.

Loved the setting.

OP posts:

ah he does! They did a good job of casting the young actor/actresses I thought, they really seemed like they could be the older person.

MyNameIsNotSteven · 26/07/2018 21:53

TwitterQueen, some posts just pull you up short and take your breath away Thanks

TwitterQueen1 · 27/07/2018 18:08

Tx MyName. My (just) 19 yr old absolutely adores MM1 and says she still remembers me giving her the DVD for her 9th birthday. We've seen the stage version too.

Yes it's corny and there are lots of holes in the MM2 storyline, but really - all that is totally irrelevant! Is it enjoyable? Yes! End of.

Davros · 27/07/2018 21:58

So.boring

SouthWestmom · 27/07/2018 22:02

Davros, I was really surprised at being bored in places. I wouldn't watch it again.

Davros · 27/07/2018 22:52

Not just me then? It didn't have nearly enough humour in it.

Toddlerteaplease · 27/07/2018 23:10

Loved it. Not see. The first one though. Agree that Cher's character was not needed. Besides I was distracted by their complete lack of expression or facial movement. Too much Botox me thinks.

French2019 · 27/07/2018 23:33

I loved it!! Cried through lots of it, especially the scene with Meryl Streep at the end. Don't really care if the details add up - it isn't really supposed to be realistic!

Toddlerteaplease · 28/07/2018 09:01

The priest for the baptism would have probably had a beard and the baby would have been naked as in Greek Orthodox baptism the baby gets dipped in the font three times. But that is just me nit picking!

woodhill · 28/07/2018 10:34

Agree about all the plot holes and Harry coming to island. aunt Sophia etc

Found Donna irritating about Sam being engaged and quite judgemental yet she'd been recently involved with Harry in Paris.

Think Sam is most likely to be the father

The dates.

How old was Sophie in first film, about 25 and has it moved on 10 years?

Always thought Meryl Streep looked old in first film for age she was supposed to be and now even older

Loved music and Arrival was my first album, still upstairs somewhere

Film was still amazing for me

Davros · 28/07/2018 17:40

I didn't care about plot holes, I just wanted to be entertained and I wasn't

Hecksonaplane · 29/07/2018 20:43

I didn’t really fancy it as thought the first one was ok, but I bloody loved it!
It also had Cher!!! What’s not to like? Although young Donna was fab she was slightly portrayed as annoying the whooping??? Urgh but I have to say i thought it was better than the first one and I didn’t even think about the plot holes, it’s a feel good film (with Cher!) Grin

SwedishEdith · 29/07/2018 21:09

Just seen it with my daughters - their suggestion. I had really low expectations and know it's rubbish really but I did have a smile on my face for most of it.

I dislike the Julie Walters character.

Sophie's dad is surely Bill Anderson. Blonde hair is recessive.

Agree with this though

I cried in several places, and I was a complete sobbing wreck in My Love My Life. It may have been manipulative, but I defy any 50-somethings, for whom Abba was the soundtrack of our childhood and early adolescence to remain dry-eyed, especially if our mothers are dead or frail

storynanny · 31/07/2018 23:59

I loved it. I thought young Donna was brilliant.
Im almost same age as Julie Walters and am always impressed by her acting. I loved the top she wore with white trousers, Ive tried googling, anyone know where it is from?

Mama Mia, Here We Go Again - with spoilers!
Slartybartfast · 01/08/2018 20:56

i cried from beginning to near the end, i did manage to hold it together for the end as i had read a warning that the end would make you cry. i was ok. loved the singing.
loved lily james
her young friends (anyone recognise Nina from I love Nina?) They were great.
Couldnt see the young Peirce Brosnan had the irish accent which irritated me.
Cher waste of time. but a big name i guess.
bit sad that they killed off meryl streep, so that was a bit gloomy but the rest made up for it.

Slartybartfast · 01/08/2018 20:57

Another one who thought they should have had Eagle in it.

noseoftralee · 01/08/2018 21:09

Sobbed through it but pregnant in my defence.

Cher's face. Ye Gods. Didn't think Cher added an iota to it.

secretfreckle · 02/08/2018 18:25

What a disappointment. Although to be fair, it had an awful lot to live up to.
Lily James was good and her friends had the facial expressions and gestures just right for Tanya and Rosie. Cher was funny for all the wrong reasons.
I did cry at the end when Donna showed up, but I too was bored in places and won't be in a rush to watch it again. It was lazy and derivative.
No one has mentioned Benny and Bjorn's cameos at the graduation and in the Parisian restaurant!

Deadringer · 04/08/2018 01:05

I felt MM 2 didn't have the heart that the first one had, it seemed cobbled together for the sake of it. I don't like musicals but i did enjoy the first one, to me it was a movie with some singing rather than a musical, probably because the main cast weren't singers but established actors. MM 2 is very much a musical though with a very music theatre cast and vibe. My teenage dds loved it but I wouldn't watch it again, and Cher was a massive waste of time imo. I am a huge Colin firth fan and I didn't like his younger self at all, he wasn't attractive enough and he appeared to have blue eyes. Young Sam did Brosnan's accent well I thought and young Bill was gorgeous!

Makingchanges · 04/08/2018 01:56

I enjoyed this one more than the first, especially the singing, which was much better. I didn't know many of the songs though. I love Andy Garcia and Colin Firth so that might help. I ignored the dates though, just used it as an enjoyable summer film. I did like the fact that they made the young versions look like the old versions as that made it easier to follow.

mmmbeans · 04/08/2018 03:07

What age was Sophie in the 1st film? And how long between films? I noticed at the end when Cher turned up, Sophie said she was 25 years too late?! So if there was meant to be 10 years between the films (as another pp said) then she'd have been 15 in 1st one, and getting married? Confused

And in the 1st one, Rosie and Tanya didn't know who the guys were but in the 2nd they met them? Confused.

Also the first scenes in MM2, the bit with Sky away abroad for work was a bit unnecessary...only seemed to be the storyline in order to fit around the song lyrics.

So many more questions tbh. I did enjoy it, bored at times especially with younger characters and preferred the 1st. Won't watch again as I sobbed in the cinema!

Slartybartfast · 04/08/2018 07:16

Definitely shoed in some songs oddly, but i forgive them

Slartybartfast · 04/08/2018 07:17

i loved the clothes and the whole colour scheme

Deadringer · 04/08/2018 11:45

Sophie was 20 in the first movie I am almost sure, and the second is set 5 years later (10 years in real life) so that would make her 25 all right. I thought the opening number, 'kissed the teacher' was super cringey but my dds liked it so it must be just me.

Slartybartfast · 04/08/2018 12:13

When I kissed the teacher, is so un pc, however they changed it to a female teacher, slightly less unpc.
