I have a very appropriate name for this thread

Just been to see this (sans children ).

Pretty long, but great fun. Actually liked it better than the 2nd. Most of the plotlines tied up, but of course, there's scope for a IV.

Complete escapist tosh - marvellous

Anyone else seen or seeing it?

I'm going to see it next week.

Will have to put up with the Keira patented pout, but judging from the pics I've seen it might all be worth it for Captain Jack AND Orlando looking quite nice too..

Well he doesn't normally do it for me either, much too smooth - but he did look a bit more (ahem) rugged in the pics...

YohoAhoy · 24/05/2007 19:09

Actually didn't see any reviews.

My musings are...

..yes it could have been shorter and yes there are lots of special effects. There are lots of different bits of plot going on, but I didn't find it confusing.

Captain Jack still funny, Orlando much less wet than previously and actually Keira quite feisty. Put it this way, I came out wishing I could have been a lady pirate with a bandana and a sword and....and...and...

It is very cheesy, but I didn't really expect anything else, so really enjoyed it.

Anything that makes me grin and sigh "cool" like a 12 year old for a few hours is fine in my book

So glad you said you wanted to be a pirate cos I did too

Orlando was much better than in the other films, Will isn't as wet and is much more grown up and rugged

Capt Jack is fab as usual and Keith Richards cameo is well worth going for

I didn't leave my seat once which is pretty much a miracle for me as I never sit down for long (I did wriggle a lot though )

far far far too long
and as you know JD is my boyfriend. Of course his parts are excellent but enough already with the other characters' beady eyes as the double cross opportunity pricks their minds.

And the shirtless Johnnies were body doubles. Boo

saltire · 26/05/2007 09:51

We are going to see it at 10.45, if we ever get organised enough to actually get out the house.

mummydoit · 26/05/2007 10:06

Body doubles? Not shirtless Johnny? Nooooooo.

JohnnyDeppsMrs · 26/05/2007 10:07

Oi keep your beady eyes of my man!

suzywong - your boyfriend? Pah! It's all in your imagination I'm afraid.

mummydoit · 26/05/2007 10:10

MrsJohnnyDepp - I slept in your man's bed last week . Stayed in a hotel where JD had been recently and got upgraded to the master suite where JD had slept.

JohnnyDeppsMrs · 26/05/2007 10:14

Oh it must have been a very posh hotel. Only the best for Johnny and me.

You are welcome to my dirty sheets.

suzywong · 26/05/2007 10:17

Fark Orfff
he's mine

I can never quite decide how I want him:
casual and relaxed www.johnnydepp-zone.com/deppartment/teenchoice.php

or monochrome www.johnnydepp-zone.com/deppartment/nocolor.php

never mind the same bed, mummydoit, sheets can and have been changed, it's the same lavvy seat that's the icing on the cake

anyway, I thought it was a case of too many plot twists coupled with too many SPFX, one or the other IMO

mummydoit · 26/05/2007 10:19

LOL - never thought of the lavvy seat!!! Oh, and the bath! Maybe he was in my bath Now there's a fantasy.

JohnnyDeppsMrs · 26/05/2007 10:23

I am his one true love.

You are delluded Mrs wong.

suzywong · 26/05/2007 10:23

a little bit like this?

mummydoit · 26/05/2007 10:25

that's about it! Mmmmmmm.

Rusty · 26/05/2007 10:33

Unsurprisingly Mark Kermode didn't like it (review proper starts at about 11 minutes)

DominiConnor · 26/05/2007 18:18

My DSs 6 and 3 loved it a lot.
It's not a bad film and although long did not drag.

Many of the reviews call it "too complex" which says more about them than the film because it ain't.
The big battle is great, and there's several really good bits like the "true secret of the 9 pieces of 8".
As thr OP says it is better than II, though not as good as I, but very few kids films are.

By the way there's a little bit after the credits, which most if not all the newspaper/TV reviewers clearly missed when they talk of the ending.

Complete and unadulterated twaddle. Kids loved it .

It's a confusing film if you haven't seen no II, which I hadn't. I felt as if I had walked in in the middle of something. It was only later when DD1 explained the links back to the previous film that some of the convoluted plotlines began to make sense. I was also rather uncomfortable during the opening scenes, which I was loath to explain to 4 and 6 year old DD3 and DS. Mind you, serves us right I suppose for taking them to a 12A. It made for rather a dark, depressing and slightly puzzling start to the film, which was only explained in part by the snippet played after the credits had rolled (WHY oh WHY do film directors stick bits like this on the end when everyone knows that the cinema is virtually empty by the time they are played?)

Nevertheless, lots of woo-hoo moments - i.e. noise emitted by DD3 when a character or ship went swinging through the air or falling from a great height, and plenty of hilarious asides. JD gloriously camp as ever. Also, a VERY welcome intermission - aka loo break - in the screening that we attended (not sure how many cinemas do this, though). Keith Richards was great, but had a disappointingly minor role!

janeite · 28/05/2007 13:41

Far too long and confusing but some good fun bits in it too. Loved the JD multiple personalities! We didn't stay until after the credits; as the girls were getting v twitchy - did we miss anything important?

BigPantsRule · 28/05/2007 13:57

Yes!
