I have a looooong list:

The Green Mile
Schindler's list
Atonement
The Colour Purple
History of Violence
American History X
Seven

All horror films - accidentally watched a Centipede one and was horribly disturbed

Not a film but a doc about 911 - Phone calls from the towers. There's an unedited version on YouTube and it's horrifying.

pepperminttaste · 03/01/2018 08:39

Beasts of No Nation. I have never reacted to a film the way I did with that one. It was awful. I tried to watch it to the end but eventually had to leave the room. Too late though as I sobbed for quite a while after.

WesternMeadowlark · 03/01/2018 08:40

Pan's Labyrinth for me too. Though it's not for any one thing. I think the whole concept, and seeing it from the child's point of view, just got inside my head too much.

I'm weird about violence and gore; sometimes I'd rather they showed it because not doing so would feel like minimising, other times it does make me feel sick. A lot is in the direction, I think; a matter-of-fact presentation, however graphic, is more respectful, easier to stomach, and, I think, more effective, than lingering, salacious camerawork.

Beast of No Nation; couldnt watch all of it
American History X
Any dramatisation of modern war/terrorism

blueskyinmarch · 03/01/2018 08:41

I loved Dunkirk but I never want or need to see it again. It was harrowing.

echt · 03/01/2018 08:42

I've nearly finished watching "Hounds of Love". Very well made, and very horrible.

Cat2014 · 03/01/2018 08:42

The mist - I was upset about that ending for days! It really disturbed me!
And the boy in the striped pyjamas.

Seriouslyjuicy · 03/01/2018 08:42

Oh peppermint x-posted. It just seemed to be voyeuristic huh...i was really suprised Idris Elba did that

DrRanjsRightEyebrow · 03/01/2018 08:43

and Mum & Dad. Ugh.

Heatherbell1978 · 03/01/2018 08:43

The Last King of Scotland. There's a few gruesome scenes I've never been able to get out my head. Generally I don't watch disturbing films.

VanillaSugar · 03/01/2018 08:44

Another vote for Pan's Labyrinth.

Also Crash (I think that's the title) with Thandie Newton and Sandra Bullock. The bit where you think the man is going to shoot the little girl.... 😭😭Shock

Seriouslyjuicy · 03/01/2018 08:46

The Exorcist

Thetreesareallgone · 03/01/2018 08:46

The Piano.

I thought it was a nice arty film with piano music in it. Wasn't expecting the plot to go the way it did...(too gory for me).

Also Betty Blue for the same reason.

RockyBayEve · 03/01/2018 08:49

The only one I could not watch again is Sophie Choice.

regularbutpanickingabit · 03/01/2018 08:49

The Ring. Scared the hell out of me!
Anything by Spike Lee. Admitting this usually leads to someone accusing me of being racist.

Seriouslyjuicy · 03/01/2018 08:50

Django Unchained

lljkk · 03/01/2018 08:50

Trainspotting.
I could watch the ceiling-baby scene before I had kids, didn't even understand why it was supposed to be freaky Blush, but no way now.

I cry at anything nowadays.

I haven't seen Human Centipede. From plot synopsis, I like to hope I'd take the mick the whole way thru coz it's so stupid.

Gwenhwyfar · 03/01/2018 08:51

You're very easily disturbed OP>

Whereland · 03/01/2018 08:52

Mother. I'm not squeamish at all but went to see it while pregnant and had to turn away from one scene at the end Angry

pepperminttaste · 03/01/2018 08:52

seriously Yes, I was surprised at Idris Elba too! It was just so brutal and so... real.

Scabbersley · 03/01/2018 09:01

Martyrs.

Don't even Google it. If i had realised I would never have watched it. I didn't make it all the way through, thank goodness

Timmytoo · 03/01/2018 09:03

Cannibal Holocaust

Scabbersley · 03/01/2018 09:03

I thought Hounds of love was excellent @echt but I agree it was a tough tough watch. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone unless they were a hardened film buff

PricklyBall · 03/01/2018 09:09

The Last King of Scotland. Brilliant film, but never again. (I see it's had quite a few mentions already)

I also doubt I'll ever make it through Slumdog Millionaire again. Again, great film, but the scene where the slave master blinds the little boy to increase his takings as a beggar - I couldn't sit through that again.

iammeegan · 03/01/2018 09:09

I spit on your grave 1 & 2

The last shift- way to jumpy

Hostel 1&2

Repo man- scares me that the future could end up like that
