What are your nominees for this category?

Just finished watching 'The Wind that Shakes the Barley'.

Good film, but it was somewhat depressing, especially the end, which you could sort of see coming as it's a Ken Loach film.

Altman's Short cuts
Cathy Come home
Vera Drake
I made the mistake of watching "this little life' on bbc2 a few years ago when ds was just a baby and I cried, and cried and cried.

yes, pan's labyrinth is good

cornsilk · 13/05/2007 19:49

Bridge to Tarabithia is very sad. Man next to me at pictures was crying.

I was really moved by Let Him Have It with Christopher Ecclestone.
Based on the true story of Derek Bentley.
I was really upset by the injustice of his death penalty.
Also agree with others about The Magdalene Sisters, again it is deeply moving as it is based on real situations.

Wow, weird - just came on to add Let Him Have It - definitely sad and the injustice still makes me .

Most depressing I think would be The Brave, with Johnny Depp. Didn't make me cry, but I couldn't stop thinking about it afterwards. Bleakest thing I've ever seen.

Sophie's Choice I've seen "the" clip, and couldn't face watching the actual film.

The biggest weepfest I've ever seen was Field of Dreams. I was sobbing so hard after I first watched it, that when I phoned my mum to tell her how good it was, she thought I'd had some awful news as I couldn't speak.

Having said that I always sob at the end of Gladiator - "he just wanted to go home" Howl.

franca i watched this little life with my son then about 12, we both sobbed for about half an hour.

Breaking the Waves with Emily Watson - I spent the first half crying my eyes out and the 2nd half too distraught to cry. A fabulous film that I've never been able to watch again!

I cried in 'Ray'. I really enjoyed it but it pulled at my heartstrings.

and the railway children, i first dried at the daddy bit when i was about 8, cos my dad was always working abroad, and ever since, i am transported back to then, when i see it.

pirategirl · 26/05/2007 21:42

cried -perhaps !!

NomDePlume · 26/05/2007 21:43

Hotel Rwanda

Harrowing, but utterly brilliant

loobylooby · 26/05/2007 21:49

Would also nominate Last King of Scotland - gripping but exceedingly shocking bearing in mind that the bits about Idi Amin's regime are based on reality.
