What are your nominees for this category?

Just finished watching 'The Wind that Shakes the Barley'.

Good film, but it was somewhat depressing, especially the end, which you could sort of see coming as it's a Ken Loach film.

The film Cold Mountain was sad.

The book, however, in addition to being far better than the film, ends happily.

SPOILER ALERT!!!

Inman lives and he and Ada have three children together. Ruby and the Georgian boy get married and also have three children and they're all happily living in Black Cove at the end.

Norksbride... The Life of David Gale is a film about how the death penalty doesn't work. Its very twisty-turny and well worth watching. I like to recommend it to pro-death penalty enthusiasts and watch them change their minds after seeing it. It is sooo scary.

It stars Kevin Spacey and Kate Winslett.

Sylvia with Gwyneth was so sad and depressing.

TheGoddessBlossom · 13/05/2007 19:31

Tilly, Sophie has to choose between her two children - which one to send to the concentraion camp, which one to keep with her. Horrendous. I watched it again recently, post having had my two kids, and it was worse than the first time.

Cried buckets and buckets at:

Philadelpha (on my own in the cinema - big mistake, huge)
Who Will Love My Children
The House of Sand and Fog
Beaches
Prince of Tides
erm, spect there is loads more, but I can't think now....I cry all the time at films.

About to watch Saw 3, what have I let myself in for??

Is Pans Labyrinth good?

I don't watch depressing films any more. I only like films with nice clothes and nice houses!

Aloha · 13/05/2007 19:34

And I never watch anything violent - film or TV. Can't do it. I walked out of that George Clooney film because of a semi-torture scene fairly early on. I literally cannot stay in my seat to watch. This is all since having children. I have several fewer layers of skin these days.

cathcart · 13/05/2007 19:36

oh yes requiem for a dream left me sobbing at the end! i've watched it loads and still gets me!

PinkTulips · 13/05/2007 19:37

Pursuit of Happyness.... sobbed buckets but so worth it

Children of Men was the most recent one to make me cry

Into the West definitely made me cry, can't remeber the end either though

The Colour Purple had me crying so hard my flatmate at the time walked in and presumed i'd been dumped

TBH i cry at everything, even sitcoms, so if i keep going my list is going to be pages long, lol

cathcart · 13/05/2007 19:39

pink tulips - i cry at sitcoms too! even cried at the simpsons once !

ElenyaTuesday · 13/05/2007 19:40

The Pianist (how can a film about the Holocaust not be sad, I suppose) and A Beautiful Mind. Oh, plus Sophie's Choice, of course - sheesh, her face when they took her daughter - awful.

PinkTulips · 13/05/2007 19:40

me too.... when the old saxaphone guy died

dp thinks it's hilarious that he keeps looking over to see me snuffling on the couch

ElenyaTuesday · 13/05/2007 19:41

Whoops, sorry, gave the game away there about which child is chosen - arghhh!!!

cathcart · 13/05/2007 19:46

PT - pmsl! sounds familiar! dh is always taking the piss too! I cried when marge sang "you are so beautiful - to me!" to homer when they made up after a row! don't get me started on Friends...!
