I have got this ready to watch for later, and was wondering is it as good is it has been hyped up to be?

I hated it. so boring, sorry!

DF and DD both hated it sorry

Not my cup of tea and didn't appreciate the "white man shows how to do jazz properly to black people and educate ignorant lady along the way" vibe

I enjoyed it for what it was. Pretty to look at and a good soundtrack.

It had a certain wistful charm about it, harking back to a golden age of cinema that probably never existed in reality (and was no doubt a steaming cesspit under the shiny veneer). The singing and dancing is meh, but Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone are likeable and make it more enjoyable than it ought to be. Holywood types get waaaay over-excited about it. Sorry. A 6/10 in my book. DH says 7.5/10.

Is it out already? I knew I should have pre ordered on amazon. I really enjoyed it. Gosling is my favourite

Didn't enjoy it at all and I love a good musical. Didn't warm to Emma Stone either.

There is another thread on here from January where some people unexpectedly loved it and others who thought they would like it didn't enjoy it.

Dh has just said Gosling could take a poo in front of you and you'd still applaud. He knows me so well. Hope you like it op, I found the opening scene cringe but if you stick through that it gets better.

I downloaded it, so no money spent, I will see it through and let you all know my verdict, I wasn't impressed with the trailers for it, but it is musical and I love most musicals! Now I am sceptical about Ryan Gosling ( he is overrated in my eyes ) and I only liked Emma Stone in Easy A.

I love musicals and I was disappointed. Not much singing or dancing and the dancing in particular just wasn't very good. Didn't like the ending. I really wanted to love it.

I hated it. I almost fell asleep during it. Fully expected to love it too!

I wasn't hugely impressed and thought it was all very depressing for a supposedly feel good film. And the dancing is shit.

I was bored in the first half but enjoyed second half more. Still only a 6/10 though. Just a bit vapid.

Another who hated it, and really really wanted to love it. Everyone left the cinema in stunned silence. Total bummer of a film for me

It was OK, pleasant enough but all the reviews and Oscar nominations etc made you think it was going to be something spectacular. It wasn't.

optional It's always the way with films that get over hyped, they never really live up to the expectation, well I have which always makes things more enjoyable well you lot have lowered my expectations now, so maybe I won't be as disappointed

Agree with everyone who said it was a bit meh - I love musicals so I thought I would love it, and I was really disappointed. The opening sequence is good, but it's downhill after that, the songs aren't especially catchy and nothing actually happens in the storyline.
