Go on then...ask away. I've seen it often enough

southeastastra · 10/03/2007 22:05

first why does padme look pregnant in the scene when it's her funeral

Cos she died immediately after having twins, I suppose - your stomach doesn't go flat instantly.

southeastastra · 10/03/2007 22:08

i did think that. i thought it was really sad. i liked annakin he went to the dark side so quickly.

My DS (aged 6) is obsessed by Star Wars - he was going to sleep tonight whilst humming the theme tune !

Whizzz · 10/03/2007 22:09

"Never underestimate the power of the Dark Side of the Force"

DrMarthaMcMoo · 10/03/2007 22:09

Not that quickly - it took him 3 films. It was destined though - Yoda knew it from the start. He was too old to train as a Jedi. Plus all the having no father/virgin birth thing - it was inevitable he would turn to the Dark Side.

southeastastra · 10/03/2007 22:11

i watched all three first episodes this week my ds(5) has seen them. i loved the originals but hadn't bothered seeing the prequels. now wondering if it's such a good thing my sons has!

they're quite deep, i've got sucked into it!

Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering.

DrMarthaMcMoo · 10/03/2007 22:13

I've been a fan since 1977 (Han Solo did it for me)...got dh into them; the boys are obsessed (ds1 less so since he discovered football).

Whizzz · 10/03/2007 22:14

"I've waited for this a long time, my little green friend"

southeastastra · 10/03/2007 22:14

I wept so loudly in the cinema when he goes into the fire pit that I got shushed, I later found out I was 6 weeks pregnant at the time so assumed it was that, but watched it again a few months ago and wept again!

I want the next 3!

Whizzz · 10/03/2007 22:20

We seem to have been watching all 6 in a continuous loop (apart from the scary lava bit in the ones thats a cert 12)

southeastastra · 10/03/2007 22:21

why did he turn to the dark side though? was it just the dreams? (i was watching with a light sabre obsessed 5 year old who only wanted to see mace windows get it)

DH reckons its because he wanted to go to extraordinary lengths to protect those he loved because his mum got killed by the sandmen, even if this meant using the powers of the dark side

Whizzz · 10/03/2007 22:24

(DH is also obsessed)

southeastastra · 10/03/2007 22:25

argh

OP posts:

but he changed really quickly (i'm thinking too deeply about this now)

OP posts:
chirpygirl · 10/03/2007 22:28

He believed it was the only way to save Padme and the baby and Palpatine encouraged him to think that by feeding him all those stories.
Don't forget his dream of his mum being in trouble was true, so he knew his dream of her dying would come true as well (which it did...)

DrMarthaMcMoo · 10/03/2007 22:30

He always had the potential to turn to the Dark Side - he grew up in slavery, he had to leave his mother as a slave when Qui-gon-Jinn took him away, his mother being killed by the sandpeople started to tip him over the edge (he killed them all - the women and the children as well, remember - not very Jedi-like). Then he's terrified because he's had visions that Padme would die - and he thinks Palpatine can help him protect her - because he can manipulate the power of the dark side, he can stop being dying/bring them back from the dead.

Just like Yoda said...Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering.

DrMarthaMcMoo · 10/03/2007 22:31

Because once he gave into it - stopped fighting it - and once he knew he'd lost Padme's love...the Dark Side consumed him.

southeastastra · 10/03/2007 22:33

it's so true and sad

chirpygirl · 10/03/2007 22:37

Okay, what DrMartha said!
Was this your thesis?!
