Film reccommendations - a challenge!

I love watching films of most genres so any film suggestions welcome if you want to share your favourites but what I'd really like are some horror/thriller recommendations BUT not gory, not supernatural/paranormal, nothing where anyone is possessed.

I like films that make you a bit scared/uneasy but not feel like vomiting because of all the blood and guts (like saw).

If it helps some of the TV and films I like that's about the level of 'gore/horror' I don't mind would be stalker, Luther, dexter and criminal minds, scream, nightmare on elm street, and seven, though that was borderline!

There's an awesome old film called Susperia that fits your criteria.

My fave film ever is the Usual Suspects, it's in the same vein as Seven so you might enjoy it.

Suspiria is definitely creepy. I found Insidious pretty scary although it is paranormal. I don't usually like those types of movies either but did really enjoy it

There's an great British-Australian film called Triangle that might fit the bill. There's a bit of blood but it's definitely not a gorefest and it really is an excellent little horror/psychological thriller.

1408 is an adaptation of a Stephen King short story and is really entertaining.

Guillermo del Toro's films Cronos, The Devil's Backbone and Pan's Labyrinth are all superb.

The devils advocate is a touch creepy but not gory and really good. I hate gory and I loved this movie.

There's a film called A Good Marriage based on a Stephen King novella that's worth a look!

I recall a film called Sublime, which is essentially a psycho-thriller, but not one to make you vomit, like you said.

Shutter Island could be right up your street, great film.

Thank you I'll look for those. I've seen the Blair witch project but not for years so I'll watch it again. I've seen sixth sense and the others, I liked them both. Thanks again everyone, I never seem to have enough films!

There is a spanish film called The Orphanage which is deliciously creepy.

Not a film but I recommend The Living and The Dead, the recent BBC series, that was sooooo creepy.

The film I found the creepiest was Don't look now. So subtle but chilling! Rosemarys baby is creepy but paranormal I guess. Absolutely loved Night of the Demon! It's fantastic!

One film that screwed me up just from the very weirdness of it was The Who's Tommy. It's scary and I still cant work out if it was meant to be.

I just wrote a whole post and then realised you specifically asked for NOT supernatural - silly me and my skim-reading.

In that case I recommend Kill List. Good movie, great acting, very creepy - the ending will stay with you.

There's a film called Mute Witness. Quite creepy, suspense filled, thriller.

Creep really freaked me out about a woman on an Underground platform!!

Oh gawd, Creep! I watched that in the middle of the day and it still scared the bejesus out of me.

Not exactly a movie but Whistle And I'll Come To You was unsettling, I haven't seen the original but I've heard it's better.

Wolf creek - the only film I have ever turned off as I was watching on my own, and bottled it half way through. Apparently its based on true events.
