Haven't seen this one.

Hmmmm I there are several films for me in this category and its ones that still freak me out today and send the shivers whevenever I think about them and can't watch them on my own!!!

Exorcist
Nightmare on Elm Street (watched it when 8!!)
The White Lady
Have you checked the Children (not sure if that's what its called!!!)

And more recently The Grudge

JoAndTheBoys · 26/01/2007 21:14

I've seen that as well, watched on my own late one night while dh was away... NOT advisable!

It's the cave creatures that did it for me, they're really primal and frighteningly believable... and did they make a vile high pitched noise like a rabid monkey?

Sheraz · 26/01/2007 21:14

Cannot bear horror films! A boyfriend took me to see 'Pet Cemetry' was so terrified had to leave the theatre. It was the littl kid slicing peoples ankles, oh God still freaks me out now...............aaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhh

whatisthepoint · 26/01/2007 21:17

I know Jo, the whole hopelessness of the girls situation was awful, and you're right they were very believeable. Couldnt of watched it on my own!!! FFS I'm still having flashbacks!!

The Shining still gets me.

The scene where he's locked himself away in a big hall and she thinks he's writing a book. She goes in and finds pages and pages of 'All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.'

Also the creepy barman and the two little identical girl twins.

Mercy · 26/01/2007 21:20

Eraserhead. Perhaps not 'classic' horror film style, but it's very weird.

I have never watched it until the end tbh. And I have tried several times.

Am also scared of 'Poltergeist'. Freaks me out!

Sheraz · 26/01/2007 21:20

SAlem's Lot - the kid scratching at the window - excruciating!

eviletc · 26/01/2007 21:21

The Vanishing.

Don't do horror as a rule. That one will stay with me til the day I die.

JoAndTheBoys · 26/01/2007 21:23

The Shining is a genius film, so much more than just a horror isn't it!

I am quite biased as I love Stephen King's stuff.

Was IT pretty scary with that evil clown? I know the book was fantastic, but I was in my late teens when I watched the film, so don't know if I remember it as being more scary than it really was IYSWIM.

Also can't watch some of the Halloween films on my own, especially 5, where his niece is in the hospital and he's stood outside in the trees, breathing heavily into his mask

ProfYaffle · 26/01/2007 21:23

The Ring. Terrified me and dh, had to keep repeating our mantra, 'it's not real it's not real it's not real'

JoAndTheBoys · 26/01/2007 21:25

Yeah, The Ring was good. Freaked me out when the girl started to come out of the television screen...

Ugh - Joandtheboys - don't remind me

LieselVentouse · 26/01/2007 21:37

I want to see The Grudge but my friends son (19) says I shouldnt as a mother of a wee girl.

ledodgy · 26/01/2007 21:38

I thought the Descent was rubbish..sorry. I like the Japanese ones in the original japanese not too fussed on the US remakes. I can't watch certain films though, gore I can do but things like the exorcism of Emily Rose I know I could never ever watch!

tiredemma · 26/01/2007 21:40

Woman In Black. God it gave me the hebie jebies. Still convince myself she is in my room, in the pitch black.

turquoise · 26/01/2007 21:40

Hated Have you Checked the Children original back in the 70s even though it was a right old schlockfest.
The two that have stuck with me are also pretty old, one (I think) was called Les Diaboliques, and the other was two english girls on holiday in France. One was Michele Dotrice, there was hardly any dialogue, and only a couple of other characters (one being the crazed killer rapist obviously) and it was so tense. Can't remember the name unfortunately, and it would probably be dead tame if I saw it now.

Saturn74 · 26/01/2007 21:41

'The Pit and the Pendulum' with Vincent Price.

themoon66 · 26/01/2007 21:45

Mmm love horror films

Scariest ones were Jeepers Creepers, The Ring and The Grudge. House of Wax was pretty good too. Also, that old one - The Candy Man... say his name 4 times into a mirror.. go on, I dare you!

The Hostel, in my opinion, should never have been made. Completely sick and vile and will live with to my dying day >

LieselVentouse · 26/01/2007 22:37

Talking of Woman in Black I saw a film called Woman in White in the 80's and it was bloomin scary - cant watch it now being a mummy

northstar · 26/01/2007 22:43

Im with joandtheboys, IT is terrifying, the book is anyway and the scary scary clown lurking in the storm drains will always frighten me.
Watched the ring last night and it was great, really scary and well made....
I love horror movies, dp hates them and is more jumpy than me which makes me feel brave even when I'm not

LieselVentouse · 26/01/2007 22:46

Anyway films I can watch over and over are The Omen (1 & 2), Jaws (1&2) and The Shining (even though I still dont get it)

AeFondKiss · 26/01/2007 23:07

dh says ed Gein (sp)

the hostel was awful, and really shouldn't have been made

I am a coward everything scares me, hammer house of horror scared me
