The Descent, OMG I found it well creepy dh was p*ssing himself I had to leave the room, is it me or has anyone found this film freaky??
I've watched loads of horrors in the past they don't normally bother me but this one was got under my skin.

Anyone seen it & whats your scariest film ever??????

OP posts:
mosschops30 · 28/01/2007 20:12

Salems Lot - gave me night terrors now cannot watch it, when i have seen just clips of it I have to leave the room

The Exorcist - because the scariest thing is that it could happen, which is why other horrors dont bother me but anything to do with exorcisms do

jenwa · 28/01/2007 20:16

MummyPenguin- pissed myself laughing, sorry, just the way you said "shit all over the sofa"!!!

I sort of remember woman in black, isit the one where the rockinghorse is rocking on its own?

I like sixth sense, things with a story good.

I thought the grudge was the Jim Carey one!!! I caould not understand why it was on this link but just realised its not that one!

Dont like things like chainsaw massacre or SAW, makes my body shiver and feel ill when think of limbs severed, eeeehhhhhh juck!

Hostel, that was more like a porno, my husband was watching it and there was a scene where there was sex and people in the room and I wondered what he was watching, did not watch it all as thought it was bizzare.
I got freaked out by the elephant man! I think more so that I wokeup in the morning and had a pillow on my head and thought it was a massive growth and that shit me up!

littlerach · 28/01/2007 20:26

I like scarey films, but not the gorey, sick kinds like Saw.
Thr Ring is def one of th scariest. The night that dh and I watched it, we went up to bed and we had a fan on for the heat. Well, I was fast asleep, fan was whirring, breeze caused our paper lampshade to fall off the ceiling, land on my legs and make me scream like a banshee. Dh pissed himself laughing, I almost wet myself with fear.
I found it really hard to walk past uncurtained windows at night afetr it, as I htought she might come through the window and get me!!!!
And The Others freaked em out for a while too.

charlieq · 28/01/2007 20:27

for anyone who liked Hostel- the director did another good horror called Cabin Fever. Also Severance is good, and actually funny, which most horror-comedies don't manage.

I agree with OP about the Descent- I found the bit at the end where the little girl blows the candles out appallingly sad as well as horrible...

franca70 · 28/01/2007 20:28

haven't seen you, but a dear friend said it was the scariest he had seen in yrs. now I'm curious.
profondo rosso by dario argento (but I was 13 when I saw it), don't know the english title.

ShowOfHands · 28/01/2007 20:38

Hostel seemed like a good premise for a film, but I found it badly shot, poorly characterised and lacking in balance. I am actually fairly scared of The Running Man with Arnold Schwarzeneegenegenener for all the reasons that Hostel should have scared me- I can imagine it happening - well, not really, but seeing that enjoyment of pursuing criminals in film is horrific and slightly too familiar. Over-crowded prisons, bloodthirsty public, eventual road to killing criminals for sport/entertainment etc. It's something about that primitive, animalistic side to human nature that William Golding characterised so well.

Ring- the Japanese original- was very good. And quite like the remake of Amityville Horror.

Didn't like The Descent, apart from the claustrophobic atmosphere.

expatinscotland · 28/01/2007 20:38

The Others scared the hell out of me the first time I saw it, as I had absolutely NO clue what it was about.

themoon66 · 28/01/2007 20:45

I wanted to see Severance, but missed it at the cinema. The title 'Cabin Fever' rings a bell... what is storyline charlieq??

charlieq · 28/01/2007 20:56

hm yes I am just remembering seeing The Running Man as a teenager and being v.disturbed by the believability of it (there's probably a whole 'disturbing dystopian films' thread to be started here...e.g. Brazil which makes me feel desolate)

Cabin Fever is a rather gentler type of Hostel- a group of teens go to a cabin in the woods and get exposed to something v. like the Ebola virus. There's a lot of black humour in it which I like in a horror.

MummyPenguin · 30/01/2007 10:44

LOL thought someone might laugh at my sofa remark, Jenwa!! Tis true though!

AshNotTheHousewaresOne · 31/01/2007 10:01

the english title is 'deep red'...its a classic from the undisputed master of the macabre dario argento....its a stunning piece of 70's giallo and well worth looking out if youve not seen it.

megandsoph · 31/01/2007 10:02

I love "Wrong Turn" poo me pants every time.

3rdTriMossTer · 31/01/2007 10:06

Ringu (Japanese version of The Ring, which I saw before The Ring).

Scared the living sh*t out of me when she came out of the telly.

And then, to top it all off, someone phoned up (it was the middle of the night when we were watching it), but when I answered, there was no one there!

Found out later it was dh on his mobile.

AshNotTheHousewaresOne · 31/01/2007 10:08

some pretty good scary chillers imho include:

carnival of souls (1963...not to be confused with the bloody abysmal wes craven thing)

juon: the grudge (the original)
ringu (ditto)
rosemary's baby
whispering corridors
suspiria
the wicker man (original)
haute tension
the descent (as most folk agree! lol)
dark water (original)
blue velvet

hope that'll do for now!

lou33 · 31/01/2007 10:08

hostel is easy peasy to watch after saw3

Longlegs1972 · 31/01/2007 10:11

The Descent - totally freaked me out.

Never been so bothered by a film since I watched Watership Down.... still have bad dreams about the black bunny rabbit that floats around when they are about to die...

ghosty · 31/01/2007 10:12

I have only seen two horror films.

  1. Rosemary's Baby (at a sleepover when I was 13 - was traumatised for weeks)
  2. Carrie (again, at sleepover around the age of 13)

Scared shitless by both. Refused to watch any horror films since ... I don't see the point ... I can't even watch the spoof ones (Scary Movie)

AshNotTheHousewaresOne · 31/01/2007 10:12

as an aside, anyone who actually enjoyed 'hostel' (scary i know, but hey! i rate jess franco's 'bloody moon') should check out 70's british director pete walker's back catalogue to see how this idea should be done properly!...anchor bay have a 5 disc boxset which is well worth investing in....go on, buy it now and thank me later!

megandsoph · 31/01/2007 10:12

ooo "the Ring" yep that is scarey

Flamesparrow · 31/01/2007 10:23

Anything dream related - so Nightmare on Elm Street and a really bad film with Timothy Spall in it!

Saw, Hostel etc are just gorey rather than scary iyswim.

Loved Cabin Fever for comedy value , with "The gun for the niggers"

Blair Witch did nothing for me

Jeepers Creepers was fine until they showed the monster and wrecked it all...

Not seen the Descent yet.

franca70 · 31/01/2007 10:23

Ashnotthehouse, did you really see profondo rosso? (deep red is the literal translation then). I kenw the dario argento, together with lamberto bava etc was considered a cult direcotr in the usa, didn't think he was known in england. suspiria scared me so much when i saw it the first time (I was thirteen and in the early 80s in italy private channels weren't regulated, so they showed horror movies without censored scenes...)
i was so curious about the descent that I read the spoilers!

MamaMaiasaura · 31/01/2007 10:24

The grudge.. shudder...

PersonalClown · 31/01/2007 10:25

Anyone got any decent suggestions of what to watch?
I've got Wicker man, Hostel, Cabin Fever on order from Lovefilm but want more suggestions.
I love a good scare-fest but I only seem to jump or get completely freaked out scared.
Seen the Ring (both versions) The grudge (both), Saw 1&2, exorcism of Emily Rose, Exorcist etc.

Flamesparrow · 31/01/2007 10:29

I liked Dead End (or wrong turn? Not the one with Eliza Dusku in...)... a bit odd, but it was creepy driving home through fog that night

PersonalClown · 31/01/2007 10:34

I've just found on Lovefilm that you can rent Ghost watch!! Anyone remember that?
It was shown on BBC at halloween years ago with the girl they claimed was possessed or something. Everyone believed it was real.
I was about 14 when that was shown and terrified the life out of me!!
