Have you ever walked out of the theatre or cinema? Why?

I was at the theatre last night. The play was 16+ and clearly stated it contained swearing and sexual references in its advertising and BOY did it. The people next to us walked out after the umpteenth wank joke and I was like Shock I've never seen that happen before. And surely if something states upfront what it's about you don't hoik your bosoms and get professionally offended and make for the exit?

Tattie - Origins of Cancel The Cheque

A poster went on AIBU because she had been to a wedding and given a £100 cheque she later received an email saying it was cheap of her basically and would she care to adjust it. Although the OP repeatedly said that the cheque had been cashed people kept arriving on the thread not RTFT and advising her to cancel. Several people carried it on as a joke

I have walked out of incredibly boring slow films. I didn't walk out of Bridesmaids as I saw it at home, but I took the DVD out 15 minutes into it and put it in the bin.

I don't need to consume everything I have país for.

Walked out of spirited away...totally dire..yet people love it.

Almost walked out of 12 years a slave..relentless hammy grimness.

And life of pi. Nonsense

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 05/06/2016 23:56

Oh I walked out of jackass too..the paper cuts scene was just a step too far. Couldn't stand that film.

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 05/06/2016 23:58

And have walked out of 99% of films we have attempted to see with DD as she kicks off. Given up now.

elQuintoConyo · 06/06/2016 00:10

I walked out of Puppetry of the Penis, as did half the audience. I was expecting art. It was rank.

The Straight Story.
Coppola's Drakula.
Forrest Gump.
Love Actually - I didn't last 10 minutes Blush
Down With Love - shit Ewen McGrogor Renee Zellwanger 'comedy' in the vein of Doris Day/Rock Hudson. Bolleaux.
Oh and Moulin Rouge. Pantaloons!

EverySongbirdSays · 06/06/2016 00:13

Down With Love is dreadful shite

POTP - wasn't the clue rather in the title? Grin

I walked INTO a performance at the interval a few weeks ago! Grin

We made the usual mistake of mixing up 19.30 with 9.30 and thought we were in plenty of time. Luckily it was a tribute show and the second half was the best bit.

Well, if you've paid for it...

Shirkingfromhome · 06/06/2016 00:31

I walked out of an open Mic night in San Francisco. The humour and references went completely over my head and the final straw was listening to some guy screech "Caaarol Channinggg" for 10 minutes. I still have no idea who she is.

EverySongbirdSays · 06/06/2016 00:34

Carol Channing is an actress Shirking but I only know that because she gets mentioned in Pretty Woman because she has some kind of bob in RL. Can't tell you what she's been in

Yeah I reported him to the staff, no idea whether something was done or not. Hate having men sitting behind me at the cinema now though.

bakeoffcake · 06/06/2016 00:35

"I walked out of Puppetry Of The Penis"

Wtf were you doing walking in??Grin

Beeziekn33ze · 06/06/2016 00:46

Bolograph - Masekela, Makeba, what a waste. I so envy you for being there!

cdtaylornats · 06/06/2016 00:51

I walked out of a cinema in Edinburgh because plaster started to fall from the ceiling.

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 06/06/2016 00:59

Ha to the poster whose friend walked out of Hong Kong. I did similar with a friend of mine while we were in Indonesia - we'd travelled by boat to Gili Trewangan, Gili Meno, stayed a night on each, and then boated to Gili Air. Got off the boat, went "nah, fuck this for a game of soldiers" and sat and waited for the boat back! might have been influenced by the sand fly bites on our feet though...

I walked out of a u2 concert once. We were at the front and they were only midway through the show but Bono just waffled that much bollox between songs that my companion and I just looked at each other and without speaking just walked out and as we were leaving we couldn't help but notice that everyone else was leaving too.

Choccywoccyhooha · 06/06/2016 01:35

I walked out on Lord of the Rings, I was bored stiff and felt no connection to the characters. I had much more fun in the bar people watching.

clarrrp · 06/06/2016 01:45

I walked out of a performance of Hairspray that had an entirely white cast.

How do you even stage hairspray with an all white cast? the whole play is about racism?

Broken1Girl · 06/06/2016 02:15

I walked out of The Science of Sleep. Pretentious crap.

AintNobodyHereButUsKittens · 06/06/2016 06:13

On the subject of Hairspray I went to a dance school end of term show where they did The Nicest Kids In Town as a standalone Big Number. The ironic lyrics about segregation really don't translate well out of context. I didn't walk out because I know the show but it was a bit iffy.

Rhubardandcustard · 06/06/2016 06:39

Yep walked out at theatre once, was dreadful acting. Was supposed to be a comedy but the acting was so bad that's what I ended up laughing at. Didn't have the courage to actually walk out whilst they were on stage though, waited until the interval and left then.

Leslieknope45 · 06/06/2016 06:44

Yes Clarrp, they tanned up the white actors. Everyone in the audience seemed to love the show. Everyone was saying how great it was. My thinking is- you don't have any black cast? No shows about the civil rights movement then.

timelytess · 06/06/2016 06:44

Ian Brown. Dd and me went to see him because he was so highly thought of at the time. We knew he was no singer. We didn't realise in advance that it would be so painful to hear that we'd have to leave.
