Have you ever walked out of the theatre or cinema? Why?

I was at the theatre last night. The play was 16+ and clearly stated it contained swearing and sexual references in its advertising and BOY did it. The people next to us walked out after the umpteenth wank joke and I was like Shock I've never seen that happen before. And surely if something states upfront what it's about you don't hoik your bosoms and get professionally offended and make for the exit?

I walked out if Mama Mia. I found it exceptionally boring.

squoosh · 06/06/2016 16:25

I walked out of The Matrix. Because The Matrix was playing.

My friend and I were asked to leave a viewing of The Notebook for laughing too much. Cue disapproving looks from the people with tear stained faces and snot snodden tissues.

SendTheNextOneIn · 06/06/2016 16:54

Husband and I went to see 'How Do You Know' and wanted to walk out after half an hour. We were stuck in the middle of a row though so felt too conspicuous. Should have just gone though. I think some other people did leave. From the cast (Reece Witherspoon, Owen Wilson, Paul Rudd etc) it should have been good. It was just dire.

ShiftyLookingBadger · 06/06/2016 17:03

I hate it when people walk out of a live performance, it's so rude! What, you can't sit tight for a couple of hours and show some respect and give the show a chance to turn around? Jeez Louise...
**Trivial, I completely agree with you!

ShiftyLookingBadger · 06/06/2016 17:06

Trivial, even

I wouldn't eat a meal I don't enjoy or like. I wouldn't wear an outfit I don't look good in.

I wouldn't spend an evening with people I don't like.

I won't waste a few hours watching something I don't enjoy.

Magz6 · 06/06/2016 17:36

Left Cats at the interval!

DailyMailEthicalFail · 06/06/2016 18:34

Left an Elton John (I know, I know!) concert with my Mum once.
He was 45mins late, came in, mimed two songs (badly) and left.
We left and got a refund (not for the 2 hours travel to get there though).

Walked out of Gregg Proops at Edinburgh once. It was awful.
He heckled me (I was alone, in front row on end in white jeans, if you remember Gregg). He asked me if I 'got my period suddenly' as I left. I shouted: 'yeah, that would be SO funny, unlike you' and left.

suzu1982 · 06/06/2016 19:07

I walked out of the second Lord of the rings film. DH and I were bored out of our skulls!

BananaThePoet · 06/06/2016 19:55

A million years ago I was taken to a theatre production starring Jim Davidson. I was very young and while I knew it would be adult entertainment I wasn't ready for goose-pimpled naked women being humiliated on the stage in front of me with expressions of absolute misery on their faces. It wasn't even well written or funny - just misogynistic dreadfulness giving people too cowardly to be upfront and go to a strip club an excuse to ogle.
I insisted on being taken home. I wish I'd known better before getting there and I'd never have gone. I don't mind nudity nor swearing but I won't put up with it when it is being done to oppress others.

AlpacaPicnic · 06/06/2016 20:20

Ooh, Plymouth once made Jim Davidson walk off!

He was booked to do a show in our local cowshed concert hall and the layout is such that any wheelchair users are in the front row. Well, he saw this and demanded that they be moved because he likes to take the piss out of the front row. The management refused to move the people in wheelchairs so he refused to perform! I felt like telling him 'Jim, these people have paid to watch you do "comedy" so their offence threshold is already pretty low'

BettyRooster · 06/06/2016 20:28

I walked out of Xanadu. I was twelve and presumably the target demographic, but it was just solo bad.

I also saw (and left) a lot of movies when there was a dollar movie theater in my town. I'd ask myself "would I pay a dollar to get out of here?" and if the answer was yes, then adios!

WhatamessIgotinto · 06/06/2016 20:41

Natural Born Killers many years ago. The name of the film should have given me a clue but what a load of utter shite.

Thevirginmummy1 · 06/06/2016 20:59

We walked out of Spectre on it's opening night at our local cinema half an hour before the end.... We suddenly realised we had several urgent messages from MIL who was babysitting and had caught the sickness bug that we'd had a few days before and kindly passed on to her! We were near the back so hopefully didn't disturb too many people but I'd love to know why people thought we'd left!

Millie2013 · 06/06/2016 21:21

OH walked out of The Blair Witch Project (and asked for his money back)
Why? "because it was shit"

I have wanted to walk out of the theatre on occasion, but have always been with someone else, usually someone who organised the trip (I have a friend who loves organising theatre trips) and have worried about offending them!

LoucheLady · 06/06/2016 21:30

Larry Clark's Kids because of general unpleasantness - underage sex, rape, HIV, you name it. And a Portuguese film where this old geezer collected pube samples from young virgins and stuck them in a scrapbook . Ewwwww.

Evenstar · 06/06/2016 21:50

I walked out of a Dirty Harry movie at the university Film Society many years ago as there was an horrific rape and I felt too upset to watch any more.

I also walked out of The Fly at the cinema as otherwise I would have been sick Blush

LoisWilkersonsLastNerve · 06/06/2016 23:19

I wish I'd had the guts to walk out of the Moshie Monsters movie, I ended up falling asleep and drooling all over myself. The dc were Shock

Rememberallball · 06/06/2016 23:31

I walked out of Lock, Stock at the cinema - my at the time husband was desperate to see it and suggested we go see a film in a Saturday night after I finished work (was an HCA on a children's ward, worked 13 hour shifts) and I remember telling him I really didn't want to see it. He bought tickets anyway. I got through 20 minutes before leaving - the manager (who knew us as we were regular patrons of that particular cinema) was surprised I'd gone to see it, gave me a refund, a glass of wine and a ticket into the other film on that evening. ExH never even came to find out where I went!!

Second thing I've walked out on was a Bobby Davro show on a cruise ship. Was headline act on a formal night (everyone in dinner suits/ball gowns!!) spent 15 minutes taking the piss out of the audience then spat water over passengers sat in the front row. Funnily enough, his second performance was much less of a draw for passengers - and he apparently had some sort of emotional break and sat on the stage crying - that night he didn't perform the second performance!!

gleegeek · 06/06/2016 23:32

I walked out of Lord of the Rings about 30 minutes in. It was just soooo loud and boring, not my cup of tea at all. I read my book in the entrance hall while dh watched the rest of the film.

Biddish · 06/06/2016 23:45

I fell asleep at The Horse Whisperer. My sister had read the book and loved it and it had rave reviews. The only thing I can remember is lots of panning countryside shots and wishing they'd turn the sound up 😴😴😴.

EverySongbirdSays · 07/06/2016 01:27

I went to The Horse Whisperer with my best friend we were bored shitless but a bloke walked in at the end and randomly handed out free tickets for a different film the next day
