Family film recommendations needed

I do the Amazon LoveFilm thing and I need to add some films to my rental list but I don't know what to choose. I would like films that are no more than a 12 rating so that we can watch them with the DS (9) and DD (11). We've enjoyed all the Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit. We've also seen all the Harry Potter films. We are not big into Star Wars or anything of that ilk.

Also if anyone has any suggestions regarding a better way to rent films I would like to know. Our tv is quite old and we've tried getting Netflix on it but can't seem to figure it out (technophobes!).

Bridge to Terabithia (great fantasy)
All the Narnia ones (Prince Caspian is our favourite)
Jack the Giant Slayer

If you can find it, the film of Danny Champion of the World is just fabulous, and quite watchable as an adult. It is completely true to the original, very English, very 1950s (not brought up to date or transferred to USA). The actors who play Danny and his dad are actual father and son (Jeremy Irons and his son Samuel) and the acting between them is lovely.

I've never found it on Prime or Netflix, but the DVD is so well worth buying. It seems to vary between £5 and £25!

The Chorus -A French Movie

Quillered · 18/03/2016 13:45

The Sandlot Kids.
A Christmas Story (when near Christmas).
There are 2 films which are documentary style, which the DCs love. One is about Junior Eurovision (can't remember the name), and the other about the great American spelling bee competition (Spellbound).

Tom Sawyer (old film).
I could go on - we have hundreds of children's DVDs. The all time favourite is The Parent Trap, but you'll have that one already.

Hmm I think Grease is quite dodgy, on a few levels.

Bridge to Terabithnia is much too sad.

Our lot liked George of the Jungle and the Mummy films.

Marking place! Trying to find films to suit all the spread of ages in the family is always so difficult.

ET
Super8
Stand By Me
Pixels
Minions
Paddington

I loved National Treasure but DS was bored!
Dr Doolittle films (Eddie Murphy) went down a storm.

My neighbour Totoro is a fabulous film. So is Kiki's delivery service.

They are from Studio Ghibli, Japanese animation films dubbed in English.

My DC love them. In fact they were recommended on here a few years ago. I'd never heard of them.

Willow and Young Sherlock Holmes - both oldies but goodies and spot on for ages of your DC Smile.

So many great films above. I would add:

Addams Family Values
Madeline

Wow, thanks all. My original post is a couple of weeks old and I've just noticed its on 'discussions of the day!'

We have already watched a couple of the earlier suggestions - We Bought a Zoo and Big Miracle. Both were really good. I am logging the latest recommendations.

MCM - thanks for the tip about using tv as a computer screen. I'll have a look at that this weekend. I'm thinking of switching to Amazon prime.

The |ron Giant is my fave animated film. Contains the dreamy voice of the dreamy Harry Connick Jnr . But it's also a great realisation of a great story.
