Name the most obscure, not well known film you've seen?

Basketball Diaries. I've never met a single person who has seen it and it's one of my favourites. Leonardo Dicaprio and Mark Wahlberg.

Like Crazy, pre Jennifer Lawrence being famous. Low budget and the cast had to make up 50% of the script.

Daydream nation. Stumbled across the trailer randomly on YouTube, decided to watch it. Really odd but turned out quite good.

Night of the Demon - cult 1950s b&w horror flick about ancient runic symbols that conjure up a demon from hell. Very cheesy special effects, but fantastic story.

Witchfinder General - Vincent Price as a sinister civil-war era enforcer who trawls round the countryside torturing and executing supposed 'witches'.

Species8472 · 22/06/2015 21:18

MrsEmmaPeel I've seen Missing a few times, such a good film. Jack Lemmon was such a great actor. Talking of Jack Lemmon, I also love The China Syndrome (also starring a young Michael Douglas).

IsadoraQuagmire · 22/06/2015 21:25

FuzzyWizard 8 Femmes is one of my absolute favorite films, I've seen it SO many times!
Actually I've seen a lot of the films people have mentioned.

IsadoraQuagmire · 22/06/2015 21:31

Probably my favorite film that no-one but me is familiar with, is Break The News, a 1938 film with Jack Buchanan and Maurice Chevalier, both of whom I love.
I saw it in a cinema that shows old movies, I laughed so much that I nearly fell off my seat.

Two Hands - Heath Legder is fab

SouthWestmom · 22/06/2015 21:45

Weird films Id love to see again:

La Haine - am no longer intellectual enough to sit through this

Priest - loved this so much

A Man in Love - sobbed all the way through

The slipper and the Rose - every year this came on!

PintOfJohnSmiths · 22/06/2015 21:48

Bubba Ho-Tep (?)

Don't know anyone in RL that's seen it, i found it slightly amusing

DarkEvilMoon · 22/06/2015 21:53

SalopianGirl Trollhunter is a rather amusing film.

Over a decade ago the BBC did films in series wrt historical events. One was about the long walk in china, the other was about a girl who was a member of the Belgium resistance who infiltrated the Nazi administration. Can't remember the exact title of either though.

SmartAlecMetalGit · 22/06/2015 21:58

Is The Slipper and the Rose obscure? Shock

Me and my DSis used to re-enact 'Protocoligorically Correct' on the stairs as children Blush

StaircaseAtTheUniversity · 22/06/2015 22:01

Place marking. Love a weird film!

PintOfJohnSmiths · 22/06/2015 22:03

Also watched a film called "Triangle" a couple of years ago, my head was absolutely battered with it, still don't get it to this day!

DramaQueenofHighCs · 22/06/2015 22:09

macaroon - I've seen 'Girl in the picture' but only because I have a massive Crush on Simone Lahbib and she played 'girl in cafe' in it! Grin

SouthWestmom · 22/06/2015 22:12

Maybe not - just can't find it again.
I love Help I'm a Fish

Does anyone know this one?
Strange place where people go to sleep and hunt people while asleep? It was set in a huge building and one of the characters went to sleep and then had dreams fighting and if he died in his dream he would die in real life. Maybe a bit sci go?

DramaQueenofHighCs · 22/06/2015 22:12

Species - Love Witchfinder General. Wrote and performed a drama about Mathew Hopkins and the witch hunts as part of my A-level Performance Studies. My Dad (who was caretaker at the school - so outed myself now!) saw the dvd of it in a charity shop and bought it for the group to watch.

Borka · 22/06/2015 22:15

BettyCatKitten I've seen Basket Case & I agree about its weirdness!

StrangeLookingParasite · 22/06/2015 22:19

Seen Picnic at Hanging Rock (of course). I suspect Josh Whedon has too.
Seen Life is beautiful, but hated it.

Someone else right up the top added Ink which I highly, highly recommend. Amazing movie.

Seen Un Chien Andalou, Dogs in Space (been to one of the houses it was filmed in, too), Eraserhead (thought it was vile), Betty Blue (bien sûr, but some of the subtitle translation was dodgy, unfortunately).

How about Diva, Delicatessen (yay Jeunet et Caro!)

StrangeLookingParasite · 22/06/2015 22:19

Oh yeah, The Love Child, with a really, really young Peter Capaldi.

Hushabyelullaby · 22/06/2015 22:34

At uni a group of us decided to watch 'Scum' on someone's recommendation. It was mid 90's so it had been out for a good few years. I'm rapidly approaching 40 and just the name of the film brings back to me how intense and traumatic it was.

CrapBag · 22/06/2015 22:44

Oh Scum! I saw that at uni too. I wish I could unsee it.

serenaserene · 22/06/2015 23:04

There were 2 versions of Scum - one considerably more brutal than the other.

I can't imagine films this raw being made now. Likewise Kids and Christiane F mentioned above .

We are very cossetted.

BruthasTortoise · 22/06/2015 23:07

Blood In, Blood Out. Brilliant prison film about Latino gang culture. No one I have ever asked has seen it. They're missing out Grin

Hushabyelullaby · 22/06/2015 23:12

I definitely saw the more graphic version. I thought I was pretty worldly wise at 19, but oh my this movie made me feel like I'd lived a sheltered life!

I think you're right, films like these would never get the green light to go ahead nowadays.

icclemunchy · 22/06/2015 23:20

Welcome to woop woop.

My dad has an odd sense of humour and would often bring random films home but this one stood out!

TodaysAGoodDay · 22/06/2015 23:25

A Summer at Grandpa's.
Taiwanese, subtitled, and a very lovely film. I would love to see it again.
