I have decided to institute a once weekly video night

cos I love tv and don't reckon my kids watch nearly enough

Am going to set me up with a LoveFilms or whatever account later today.

Right then, what films shall I bung on my list?

Criteria: films that wil appeal to ds who is 3 (don't get hung on on ds bit-big Angelina fan) and also his parents)

Please don't only reccomend Disney.

And say if there are any scary bits.

DS1 has seen Chitty Chitty Bang Bang (the preschool showed it, I haven't seen it) and loved it.

The film version of Ballet Shoes is completely magical and gorgeous.

Oh, and Riverdance . And Atlantis by Luc Besson, both my boys were transfixed by it.

FillyjonkTheFireEater · 11/11/2006 10:15

Riverdance?

Now that terrifies me.

There is a cartoon film version of The Water Babies (best book ever written IMO) but I haven't seen it.

Mentioned it on your other thread, but wanted to make sure 'Swallows and Amazons' gets on the list!

I know you said you weren't keen on Disney, but 'George of the Jungle' is great!

Wallace and Gromit films are fantastic too.

SparklyfestiveYellowFeathers · 11/11/2006 10:29

If DD1 likes Toy Story Lockets, she'll like PE. Tom Hanks does the main characters voice and its computer animation like TS too.

She also watched the old version of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and quite enjoyed it but this one comes with a warning. She wasnt so keen on the weirdy guy at the start who talks to the kids that win the golden ticket!

Greensleeves · 11/11/2006 10:30

Oh no, not Hanks

I was considering getting it for ds1 too.

Kidstrack · 11/11/2006 10:30

Ice Age
Polar Express (scary at bits when the ghost is on top of the train)
Brother Bear

ds used to love Monsters Inc at that age and as a conseqence (he is 7 now) he is not scared of monsters or beleives in them as he thinks they are all cartoons or in films, all made up he says

My two were terrified of the scene in the tunnel in the original 'Chocolate Factory' film.

I am still traumatised by the child catcher in 'Chitty Chitty', but was almost sad to see the film again with the children, and realise I had exaggerated his scare factor in my head over the years! (Still wouldn't want to meet him, though! )

'Dennis' was another favourite when my two were younger, as were 'Shiloh' and 'Shrek'.

SparklyfestiveYellowFeathers · 11/11/2006 10:34

Shes also had a good giggle at Home Alone (I made her watch it as its my favourite ).

LieselVonTrapp · 11/11/2006 10:34
