I have decided to institute a once weekly video night

cos I love tv and don't reckon my kids watch nearly enough

Am going to set me up with a LoveFilms or whatever account later today.

Right then, what films shall I bung on my list?

Criteria: films that wil appeal to ds who is 3 (don't get hung on on ds bit-big Angelina fan) and also his parents)

Please don't only reccomend Disney.

And say if there are any scary bits.

Erm

The Bear

The Snowman

Father Christmas

erm

that's it, that's all I can think of that I would possibly let ds watch

FillyjonkTheFireEater · 11/11/2006 17:16

mary poppins also passes the Fillyboy scaredness test.

the snowman i think he would find unsettling

oh dear

God, I can't watch the Snowman. It makes me howl.

FrannyandZooey · 11/11/2006 17:17

oh dear

I am sorry I have been no use

UCM · 11/11/2006 17:24

Babe
Madagascar
Shrek
Toystory
Chicken Run
Bugs life
Ice Age 2

These are all films that I know the words to as DS has watched em 1000 times

Non Disney successes in our house not (I think)mentioned already: Stuart Little, Garfield, Nanny McPhee, Curious George, Madagascar, and .... don't hate me for this one afterwards, but DS loves it !.... Thomas and the Magic Railroad.

FrannyandZooey · 11/11/2006 17:44

The Bear

If the snowman is too unsettling this may be as well.

Greensleeves · 11/11/2006 17:45

Nanny McPhee is bloody terrifying.

FrannyandZooey · 11/11/2006 17:46

I am coming to the conclusion that the answer to the title is

"Not very many at all, if any."

MKG · 11/11/2006 18:20

Charlotte's Web, I remember that one and it was always my favorite.

all4girlz · 11/11/2006 19:05

my 3 yr old dd loves casper and scooby doo films both animated and proper films not too scary bits in zombie island are a little bit
matilda
sharks tale
finding nemo
the borrowers
all ok for a 3 yr old that mad on with a mouse mouserun? lee evans s in it
have a great movie night cat thik of any others that have not already been mentioned !

serenity · 11/11/2006 19:25

DD was 3 last week and she likes watching...

Madagascar
Toy Storys 1 and 2
Magic Roundabout
Chicken Little
Help I'm a Fish
Lilo and Stitch

also DSs and DH are big Studio Ghibli fans so she's seen all of those too and gets excited about all of them! We didn't have any problems with Spirited Away I have to say, but she also likes Doctor Who () so I think my DCs aren't easily scared. 'A Cat Returns' is a really good SG film, without any scary bits that I can remember.

FillyjonkTheFireEater · 11/11/2006 20:11

right, we had a fab night

we watched

Angelina's Big Performance!

It was great

So we spent 45 minutes critiquing and comparing classic children's films for you, then you watched a film about a ballet dancing mouse?

Saturn74 · 11/11/2006 22:07

Well really!

FillyjonkTheFireEater · 12/11/2006 07:15

am going to get a lovefilms account today

and bung most of the stuff on here on it

but I think i have to watch all this stuff first

I have not seen very many kids films. Have realised that i haven't actually seen the snowman, just read the book! (no tv growing up...)

lol at humph's "well, really!"

Took ds to see Joseph and his Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat by the local Am Dram and he loved it. So may be worth adding that to your list.

threebob · 12/11/2006 07:27

I never preview films for ds - that's what the U is on them for - and he is as likely to be scared of something completely innocuous and fine with the bits I think he will hate.

I will admit to missing the first scene in Finding Nemo though because I didn't want awkward questions about where Nemos mum went.

Next time through

"I didn't realise Nemo's mum was dead, oh well, he's got his daddy still".

ludaloo · 12/11/2006 07:30

Sorry if I repeat some...my ds is 3 and he luurrves:

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

Monsters Inc.

Finding Nemo

Dinosaur

Thomas The Tank Engine

Pretty much Disney Pixar/Dreamworks type films are a big hit!

FillyjonkTheFireEater · 12/11/2006 07:37

Dinosaur sounds intriguing, luda...

look, bear in mind here that I am incredibly easily scared by the telly. That is his role model. I had nightmares for 2 nights after seeing that dr who episode set in cardiff...and god as for that Empty Child episodes...

Did you check out that there were 3 child psychologists listed in the credits, that actually worried me.
