Where it finishes and you're more depressed than you were to start with.

Mine:
Stalingrado (Stalingrad) About Nazi's during (yup!) the battle of Stalingrad. In Russian. It is over 2 hours of depression.

All is lost.
Robert Redford at sea. Oh dear. For his face and the film.

The Grey.
Liam Neeson mumbles his way though misery.

Into the wild. Sniff

idlevice · 11/07/2015 21:22

Boys Don't Cry, with Hilary Swank. Unfortunately based on a true story. You can see the horrendous ending coming a mile off.

Also Brokeback Mountain, although gorgeously shot with two divine actors the themes about homophobia, unfulfilled love, a life half-lived within such binding restraints, etc just made me despair. I had to resort to fanfiction to find alternative endings where it was all happy-ever-after instead Blush

In America

So much loss and sadness . Also one of the best movies I've seen.

But never again.

The sick dying brother. The sick mum. Then Mateo dies.

Can't even remember how it ends!

That film really got to me.

Redglitter · 12/07/2015 00:47

Traffic - walked out
An English Patient - lost the will to live
Lost in Translation - WTF

Ohwhatfuckeryisthis · 12/07/2015 01:11

Just watched Cosmopolis. Good film, not a laff fest.

BitOfFun · 12/07/2015 01:30

Detachment, starring Adrien Brody. I abandoned it at the point where it was obvious a cat was going to get tortured.

Most miserable film I've ever seen a bit of.

BitOfFun · 12/07/2015 01:31

Hahaaaa, I've just realised this is an old thread, and I nominated the same film. At least I'm consistent Grin.

Sweetsecret · 12/07/2015 21:47

And another Harry Brown, good god it was grim.Sad

MarshaBrady · 12/07/2015 21:53

Cake with Jennifer Anniston I couldn't get to the end.

Dioskouri · 12/07/2015 21:54

Norwegian Wood. It sounds like a porn film. It isn't.

MarshaBrady · 12/07/2015 21:57

Agree with Slumdog Millionaire, not feel good at all.

Tyrannosaur too but it was very good so made up for it and Detachment.

12 years a slave

Just saw 'Amy". Incredibly sad and moving.

anothermakesthree · 28/07/2015 19:55

Never let me go.

Good god.

SausageSmuggler · 10/08/2015 15:48

Harry Brown stayed with me for far too long. Even the opening scene!

Atonement was awful too.

echt · 11/08/2015 09:43

Not RTFT, but "Young Adam". Put me right off canalboats, I can tell you.

ThatBloodyWoman · 11/08/2015 09:51

Threads.

AllTheRAGE · 11/08/2015 15:43

Only skimmed the thread but didn't see:

No Country for Old Men

Memento

Looking for Mr Goodbar

Anyone else agree with these?

mrsdavidbowie · 11/08/2015 15:45

I like bleak and depressing films. Hate rom cons and happy endings.
I will go and seek some suggestions out...

Brokeback mountain.

Could have stayed at home and fed ourselves bit by bit into the shredder for the same effect.

mrsdavidbowie · 11/08/2015 16:05

See I loved Brokeback Mountain Grin
Seen it about five times

CainInThePunting · 11/08/2015 16:16

Seven Years a Slave. Horrific. Both myself and my Dad were sobbing by the end and we don't usually cry at films.

CainInThePunting · 11/08/2015 16:19

Oops, 12 Years a Slave. That makes it even worse.

TheImminentGin · 11/08/2015 16:39

Into the Wild. Even worse, it's based on true events.
A.I. Artificial Intelligence. I really felt aggrieved afterwards that my emotions had been put through the wringer for hours! by Steven Spielberg.
