Please recommend a good-quality but easy-to-watch film for DH and me for tonight. A romantic comedy maybe?

Something with decent acting but nothing taxing (we usually stick to arthousy stuff but are too knackered for anything too clever tonight )

The Station Agent is fabulous

Janh · 31/12/2005 16:35

I had to look at arthousy for quite a long time before I realised it wasn't arth-ousy

Blandmum · 31/12/2005 16:35

When harry met sally if you don't mind an oldie

Janh · 31/12/2005 16:36

We love Parenthood.

MistletAero · 31/12/2005 16:37

What is cheaper by the dozen like? Watched the sequel yeasterday and it was quite amusing.

saadia · 31/12/2005 16:40

"You Can Count on Me" is a bit slow but the acting is superb, also liked "In the Bedroom" - good acting but a bit depressing, "About a Boy" is good, if you haven't already seen it.

Twiglett · 31/12/2005 16:40

DH liked Sin City .. I kinda liked it but got bored

bubblerock · 31/12/2005 16:40

I've got the wedding crashers out for tonight, not sure what it'll be like but telly is rubbish!

Janh · 31/12/2005 16:40

Miss Congeniality seemed OK when I sort-of watched it.

Janh · 31/12/2005 16:41

Ohhh yes, second About a Boy, it's an antidote to all those sugar-coated Richard Curtis romcoms.

franch · 31/12/2005 16:42

Havent seen wedding crashers, cheaper by the doz or sin city .... not sure .....

saadia you're spot on too but seen them all (oh, You can count on me is so good!)

I was surprised to like Hitch. Sideways is fab.

Enideepmidwinter · 31/12/2005 16:51

We have gone uber-scuzzy

Day of the Dead and the Wedding Crashers here

Enideepmidwinter · 31/12/2005 16:52

'I'm Not Scared' is fab but a thriller not a rom com (its Italian - or if you have a decent vid shop then Bread and Tulips - also Italian, fab)

collision · 31/12/2005 16:52

Shall we dance? with richard Gere and jen Lopez is great and i loved it!!

We have got Alfie for tonight.

I hated Hitch.

anorak · 31/12/2005 16:53

The African Queen is on later.

Enideepmidwinter · 31/12/2005 16:56

Million Dollar Baby
Closer
The Aviator?

TurkeyGang · 31/12/2005 16:59

Scent of a Woman. I love Al Pacino though and you've probably seen it cos it's quite old.

spacedonkey · 31/12/2005 17:00

ooh yes, the african queen is my no 1 all time favourite film

i wouldn't recommend closer - a nasty little film about a bunch of nasty little people

when harry met sally is always good

Enideepmidwinter · 31/12/2005 17:02

havent actually seen closer

but its been sitting on my shelf for two weeks now from Love Film

spacedonkey · 31/12/2005 17:03

argh sorry enid - lots of people loved it!

spacedonkey · 31/12/2005 17:05

what about strictly ballroom? or is that too girly?

Enideepmidwinter · 31/12/2005 17:06

it actually does sound a bit crap

but I am pg so cry at everything unless it is very harsh

Lassie nearly rendered me insensible today

and lets not forget 'Family Man' with Nicholas Cage the other night
