I have been looking forward to this film for yonks!!

went last night - enjoyed it, but didn't love it (obviously I will require a second viewing for the love to form)

Certainly didn't find it 'darker' than the last one (though it think Part 2 will be!)

OP posts:
TinselinaBumSquash · 20/11/2010 08:23

I saw it last night, i enjoyed it but find myself unable to get past the 'that didn't happen in the book' thing. ots been the same with all of them. Sure the films makes sense but there is just so much attention to detail missing that really tells the story properly.

Somethings just didn't need missing out like Wormtail not killling himself and Harry not being in disguise at the wedding..

However i think for those who haven't read the book they are great films.

PureBloodMuggle · 20/11/2010 08:27

I get that TinselinaBumSquash so ultimatly I decided that I would see them as two totally seperate things to enjoy - there is the Harry Potter books and then there is the Harry Potter films, I find it means I can enjoy the films more!!

Don't get me wrong I did think 'hey he's not in disguse!' and 'he was suppose to kill himself' though!!!

TinselinaBumSquash · 20/11/2010 08:30

Yes i have tried to do that as much as i can, although i think its a real shame to miss out all the Dumbledore stuff in the book about his family and things.

I was bracing myself in the cinema when they went into Bathilda Bagshotts house... i knew what was coming! I still jusmped out my seat. Grin

Piffpaffpoff · 20/11/2010 08:35

I thought it was the best so far, I didn't notice the missing book bits as much as I normally do. It was much 'faster' than prev films, had a real sense of pace throughout. I only realised on reflection last night that a key figure is hardly in it at all. And the ending was good. I had wondered how/where they would make the break and it was done very well IMO.

Can't wait for the final one!!

PureBloodMuggle · 20/11/2010 08:37

Me too!!! (btw I've just topically name changed from Yadda so she's not disappeared! Should have thought to do it before hand but hey ho)

There might be the Dumbeldore stuff in part 2 - it's fairly important isn't it too the story (in as much as how the wand got passed on)

One of the reasons I need a second viewing is so that I can watching knowing what's different and I don't think 'ooh that's different' because I know it is

Quattrocento · 20/11/2010 08:38

We saw it last night

Was in two minds whether or not to go, #6 having been a bit disapppointing. But this one is really good, I think. Everyone enjoyed it.

PureBloodMuggle · 20/11/2010 08:40

Me and my friend were talking about where they are going to break it - neither of us thought of that part - but after the film we did think it couldn't have been any other part really!!!

My friend thought it was the best one so far too - I will be watching again

DS1 has just got in a huff with me because he wanted to go!! He's 6 (close to 7) and has only ever seen the first two films!!!

BelligerentGhoul · 20/11/2010 19:50

I liked it but was cross with some of the changes. Dp loved it and thought it was the best one yet. I wept buckets over Dobby though. The cinema was silent apart from the sound of my sobbing. :(

BelligerentGhoul · 20/11/2010 19:52

Agree that this seemed a good place to make the split: I had thought they'd go a but further than that but actually it worked v well.

I was cross about the Wormtail thing though and the undisguised at the wedding thing.

I forgave them for not making Lovegood betray Harry so explicitly and the Deatheaters coming because of him speaking Voldermort's name instead.

HumphreyCobbler · 20/11/2010 20:00

Oh god, Dobby.

I know I will weep.

AmazingBouncingFerret · 20/11/2010 20:07

I can see why they left out harry being in disguise at the wedding. There was alot of polyjuice potion use in the film. Think it may have got confusing for some.

I loved it and like another poster said, I view the films and the books as seperate.

Did anyone else think phwoar at Jason Issacs with the stubble?

WhyHavePets · 20/11/2010 20:09

I was cross about them missing out Lunas painting, I know it is a little thing but I thought it gave a wonderful insight into her and her way of seeing the world!

I liked it but I felt this one changed more than the others from the book IYSWIM and I need to watch it again without spending so much time doing "but that is wrong"!

BelligerentGhoul · 20/11/2010 21:29

Who is Jason Isaacs?

Bumperlicious · 20/11/2010 21:51

Isn't he lucias malfoy?

RoonilWazlib · 20/11/2010 22:22

I loved it. Beautiful scenery, music and cinematography.
I was pleased with so much of it, the 7 Potters, Ron/Hermione moments, the Silver Doe (Perfect), Charity Burbage, Godric's Hollow and Malfoy Manor.
I need another viewing and can't believe I have to wait until July for Part 2.
There were only a couple of things that I wanted to be included that weren't; Harry telling Ron he sees Hermione as a sister, Ron should have been shouting more whilst in the cellar and Wormtail should have killed himself.
Bit confused still about how they are going to deal with the unknown horcruxes and ow will they explain the mirror? What about the cloak of invisibilty and why did Hermione not put her bag in her sock? These are going to screw with my head until July.

BelligerentGhoul · 20/11/2010 23:14

Bumper - thanks. I thought he was v good - nice to see him in a slightly different light - trembling instead of sneering!

yes - I kept waiting for the 'I love her like a sister' line and it never came. A shame, as I thought the bits with them in the tent (esp the dancing scene) were beautifully handled.

Didn't like the shining snogging Hermione and Harry in the locket though - a bit too Lord Of The Rings/Balrog/Cate BlanchettgoingallweirdonBilbo-esque for me.

Agree that it was beautiful - really nicely staged. DP said it was like an Ingrid Bergman film.

BelligerentGhoul · 20/11/2010 23:15

Frodo - not Bilbo.

TheNextMrsDepp · 20/11/2010 23:16

Is it a 15? If so, is it justified?

DCs want to see it, but I fear they are too young.

BelligerentGhoul · 20/11/2010 23:19

It's a 12A.

NoahAndTheWhale · 20/11/2010 23:21

It's a 12 isn't it?

(Haven't seen it yet btw).

DS is a very very nearly 7 year old Grin and has watched the first three. Possibly the 4th (can't actually remember) but all on DVD so could leave if necessary.

NoahAndTheWhale · 20/11/2010 23:24

Ah yes a 12A.

Have finally found out what that means Blush.

So DS could watch it if he went with someone ie me.

poshsinglemum · 20/11/2010 23:31

I loved it. was very good. And quite scary.

BelligerentGhoul · 20/11/2010 23:36

Noah - there were no very young children in the cinema today. I'd say that 10 was probably the youngest. I think a six year old would be very bored to be honest. It's a very intense and brooding sort of film - lots of shots of characters staring off into the distance in desolate but beautiul landscapes etc.

BelligerentGhoul · 20/11/2010 23:37

Scuse typos - keybord keeps sticking.

NoahAndTheWhale · 20/11/2010 23:49

I'm not going to take him - I think he's too young and anyway i want to see it without needing to think about him iyswim.

He also believes if he tried to watch a film with a 12 certificate that something bad would happen (not sure if hr imagines alarms going off or something similar).

I was surprised seeing that he could go to it, rather than intending to I think
