Are we so focused on predatory males in positions of power praying on vulnerable women & girls - that we lose sight of the fact it can happen the other way around.

How many more of these evil women are hiding in the shadows...?

The male victims of these relational offenders are the most unlikely to recognise what happened to them as abusive and/or illegal. That means they are least likely to formally report in a fashion that would align with conviction rates.

They are also called heterosexual nurturers in other studies and are thought to likely be the most common type of female sex offender if all crimes of this nature were reported.

Another one I spotted over the weekend. Reading it, it appears she was given a suspended sentence because she was able to walk out of court, so she wasn't sent to jail.

She got 4.5 years

But she 'walked out of court' - which implies that it was a suspended sentence.
Otherwise she would have been 'sent down' - so she basically gets nothing

I might be wrong, but I doubt its a case that you are allowed to go home first and turn up at the jail in a few days time to start your sentence.

I googled her name and other articles seem to be clearer in the fact she was jailed. I think her husband left the court and was asked for comment but declined.

The first paragraph says she was ‘jailed for four and a half years’

Agree. Genuinely very surprised to see some pp minimising sexual offending by women, I thought we were past those days.

Not trying to make it sound too lenient to a female perpetrator then?

I used to have a job relating to teaching tribunals. The number of cases involving male teachers behaving inappropriately towards pupils is shocking – to the extent it used to make me think men shouldn't be allowed to teach girls (and I had some wonderful male teachers when I was at school). Most of these cases don't seem to make the news. The proportion of female teachers doing the same is really low, which is why it makes headlines when it happens as it's so shocking. You're right that it's horrific and should be treated with equal seriousness. However, it is still really uncommon for a woman to sexually abuse kids.

Exactly this. The number of cases of inappropriate behaviour by male teachers is mind boggling but it's almost so commonplace that it's not newsworthy. The only reason the few cases involving female teachers makes the headlines is because it's so unusual.

I don’t think anyone looks at most teachers and thinks they’re a bit dodgy, regardless of student percentages.

Factually, men are more likely to be predators than women, it’s not a distraction as clearly in cases where women are the predators they are held to the same criminal standard as men, and as far as I’m aware, teachers of any sex or gender undergo the same checks and training regarding safeguarding.

I do think it’s a distraction however to hold up an individual case such as this and claim the threat of sexual violence toward women and girls by men is equal to that of the sexual violence toward boys and men by women.

Nobody has ever claimed there is zero threat, but when we talk about men and boys being at greater risk of death by suicide, or looking into how we can help them achieve better grades in school because they’re not doing as well as girls nobody starts shouting about how women die by suicide and sometimes struggle at school too.

Yes female crimes occur but if the media were to give equal prominence to every male crime of a similar nature a lot of column inches would simply be covered with school predator scandals.
