Another man has died, a victim of cruel abuse by women

A woman who killed her partner after a "sustained campaign of abuse" has been convicted of murder. Polly Murphy fatally assaulted her partner, James Self, 47, during a trip to Clacton-on-Sea.

Domestic violence is equally horrendous whether it is men commiting it against women or women against men.

The article talks about the abuse this man suffered at the hands of this woman. And talks about men in abusive relationships being a hidden problem in society.

So I'm a bit perplexed about the point of your thread. The title of it is quite strange. Men in abusive relationship deserve help and support as well as women .

ChurchWindows · 27/01/2026 20:56

That poor man. His poor mother too.

Binglebong · 27/01/2026 21:25

Do you think we will dance around cheering that a man has gone? We won't. This is awful and there needs to be less stigma about being a male victim of domestic violence.

BiologicalRobot · 27/01/2026 21:37

I had to go to the BBC website to read it. Where are you getting women from (as in plural) as I only see one woman named.

To be clear - any abuse is wrong but I would like information to be honest and factual.

Jk987 · 27/01/2026 21:55

@RT112 what is the purpose of your thread?

RIP to the man.

roseymoira · 27/01/2026 22:00

What a strange post

OtherS · 27/01/2026 22:01

Horrific that yet another PERSON has been murdered after a years of domestic abuse. I don't think your title is particularly helpful how it's written, it rather makes it sound like loads of women are murdering men and everybody's just fine with it?

There needs to be infinitely more done to highlight and prevent domestic abuse, no matter the gender. I would agree that there should be more done specifically to confront abuse and violence committed by women, whether it's against men or other women. It can seem to appear irrelevant as it is of course so much rarer than violence committed by men against women, but it is arguably even more in need of discussion and campaign, partly because it does get less coverage, and partly because gender norms can make it very difficult for men to understand and tackle what is happening to them. To be clear, I am not suggesting decreasing the coverage of violence against women, just increasing the coverage of violence by women.

I am very sorry for what happened to him, and relieved that a domestic abuser is receiving an appropriate sentence. Which is not always the case.

Oh look, another far right Mens Rights Movement activist whingeing about the 1% of female on male murders.

Every week at least 2 women are murdered by their abusive MALE partner! THIS is more appealing than your post

Waitingfordoggo · 28/01/2026 12:08

Not sure why this is in the feminism topic really. What does it have to do with feminism?

What this man went through was awful- I am very sorry for his family and loved ones. I hope his abuser gets a fitting sentence for her crimes.

muggart · 28/01/2026 12:12

Slightly goady thread title trying to make it sound like this is common (as opposed to the other way round) but this is very sad nonetheless. RIP.

MsGreying · 28/01/2026 12:56

I have known several victims of domestic violence. Several of the victims are men.
One lived with a woman who killed her husband 30 years before.

Tonissister · 28/01/2026 13:03

OP, this is a tragedy. And you are right to flag it as female violence towards males is a subject that is not often discussed, and there is often silence from men who are abused by women, perhaps due to shame.

But unless you are willfully ignorant you will also know it is a rarer occurence. For every man killed by a woman, six women are killed by men, in UK. That's a significant difference.

I think the OP is trying to explain to us that women can be brutal and evil too, in case we lacked the brain capacity to work that out for ourselves.

I had a feeling this was the angle. Thanks for doing the leg work and confirming this is the case

Taweofterror · 28/01/2026 13:16

Maybe it was something he said?

You said on another thread that sometimes women's words get them killed. So I guess that might have happened here, hey?

Exactly. This poster's history on here is pretty vile.

Over40Overdating · 28/01/2026 13:21

So because a MUCH small proportion of men are killed by women we should what, just stop talking about what men are doing every single day of every single week to women @RT112 ?

If you really care about DV against men you’d be campaigning for more awareness and support instead of using someone else’s death in your pathetic attempt to divert attention away from what is an epidemic of violence against women and girls, perpetrated by MEN.

RIP to that man and those who loved him. It is disgusting you’ve reduced his death to some pathetic point scoring attempt.

Yes, I thought as much, but it still doesn’t really have anything to do with feminism!

LiesDoNotBecomeUs · 28/01/2026 13:49

Domestic abuse is a terrible thing!

Not sure of the point you are making OP.
(Being feminist doesn't require you to approve female violence against males.)

wishingonastar101 · 28/01/2026 14:07

Very scary woman - I know someone who knows her quite well and she denied it all. Blamed Mr Self for being an alcoholic and is unhappy in prison because she is a vegan.

Minjou · 28/01/2026 14:10

Maybe she can claim it was a sex thing and he asked her to do it, and only get a couple of years?
It works for men, after all.

BarbieShrimp · 28/01/2026 15:24

OP, you think you're going to get a juicy article about man-hating wenches out of this, but we see right through you and you won't.

For what it's worth, I'm a woman and I spent six years of my life fundraising for men-specific support groups and mental health projects, and speaking to male victims of intimate partner abuse.

Interestingly I hear a lot of goaders asking "where are the men's shelters, then???". I tell them where they are, and direct them to where they can make a donation. They never give one.
