Slurs for female - disrespect from DS and wider family don't beleive in misogyny

DS calling me a Karen, cunt, a "lonely old woman" (I'm a solo parent) and telling me to shut the fuck up. That no one likes me in the family (dsis and BIL) because I'm sexist and crazy!! (Im a feminist). This all come from with ignoring perfectly reasonable boundaries and DS trying to silence me with the above!

I said to DS that he must be mindful of listening to others (eg. BIL and nephew, online) saying such things and that as a family we shouldn't and don't share those sort of values. My dsis is submissive and does not beleive in misogyny, she thinks it's woke ideology.

Don't mean to drip feed, but there's more to add.

What was the argument about that led to him telling you to fuck off and that no one likes you?

How does your sister and her family fit into all of this?

I believe I added about my sister and family.

I've been a solo parent for the last decade. DS's F was DA. He doesn't see DS very often at all, every few years, and doesn't contact in between. At last visit F called me a cunt when with DS and he then repeated it later to me and admitted that his "F is right, I am (you are) a cunt".

So you and his dad were arguing and his dad called you a cunt?
And now DS is agreeing with his dad.

He seems very angry and it’s likely that part of this is because his dad is not involved as much as he should be.
And when he is, he’s also abusive to you.

If your sister, her partner and kids are also abusive to you then you need to stop seeing them as much.

Does DS have any decent male role models in his life?

I’m absolutely not sticking up for him but it seems he’s just copying the other men in his life, which is pretty normal for kids/teens to do.

Does he do any clubs?
Could you look into getting him into a youth or boxing club?
He needs some positive male role models and joining a club will help him with his self esteem too.

I would tell you to punish him etc but actually that will likely make him just push against you and become more angry.

My son's behaviour started around that age too. You really have to nip it in the bud. No technology, counselling (can be faith based if you're religious but not necessary), having frank discussions with him, finding some positive male role model outside of family if he's not respecting family ect. He'll absolutely play the victim at first but that should weaken the barriers

I guarantee that it's coming from social media..the biggest mistake I made was restricting his Internet access and then allowing it again.

Your sons behaviour changed when he came out to you as bi and you and your brother physically assaulted him, before you tried to send him to conversion faith based therapy. Your husband was also abusive and misogynistic. Your son learned bad behaviour from the adults around him. Your son is also no longer living at home, aged 16, and is in the care of the state.
Be wary of you listen to, OP.

I'd be seriously tempted to tan his arse. Corporal punishment is not illegal in England and Scotland.

You need to take away any access to social media and gaming he currently has. Take away his phone. Sell any gaming equipment he has.

Make him do his own laundry.
Make him cook.
Make him clean the bathroom.

Stop making gentle suggestions to him about the wider family's attitudes. Distance yourself from them.

Corporal punishment is illegal in Scotland. Thankfully. You cannot fix things with abuse.

How do you react when he calls you cunt? I'm flabbergasted you allow this

Cunt is gender neutral in the UK.

No it isn't. Just because it's used by men to insult other men doesn't make it gender neutral. It's one of the 'worst' swear words in the English language for a reason. It indicates disgust of the female anatomy.

nutbrownhare15 · 26/03/2025 16:42

In fact I can't think of any swear word that is more insulting. Which says everything you need to know about how its usage denigrates women.

As it is a word used by men and women to describe both men and women, that kind of does make it a gender neutral swear word in the UK.

Per the Cambridge dictionary for
cunt, its first definition is
an offensive word for a very unpleasant or stupid person”

person= gender neutral.

Everyone knows it's origins though. It's a word for female genitalia. Just because it's used to describe both men and women doesn't mean it's not a term that means the female anatomy.

MyKingdomForACat · 26/03/2025 16:59

No 13 year old of mine would be talking to me like that. Imagine him at 30

JillAndJenTheFlowerpotMen · 26/03/2025 17:01

OP, do you know what your son is doing on the internet?

Words move away from their original meaning all the time. Especially when they become slang terms or general insults. When I hear the word cunt I think of someone acting stupid or offensively.

I have NEVER heard the word cunt and thought of a vagina.

Well I do, every time. Because that's what it means. Is the word dick gender neutral because it can be used by men and women to describe men and women?

I don't hear people call a woman a dick ever. And people often refer to penises as dicks. I have never heard a woman say "my cunt" whereas men say "my dick" all the time.

I have literally never heard anyone use the term cunt to refer to their own or someone else's vagina.
