Some of us haven't had a government for more than two months, just fantasy political football. Or political fantasy football.

Is everyone out negotiating with the builders about the specs for the Recuperation Suite before the next redecoration?

May I respectfully suggest that it doesn't look out on the stable yard despite the good views beyond the roofline, because the birds all lining up on the ridge to gaze into the windows is unsettling, and also, between the gerbils' Busby Berkeley routines, the quokka clog dance rehearsals, Moose's tap (was that Moose?), Beetle's clog dancing pals, Android borrowing the studio for her foray into Rap and Marie doing philosophy from the podium it really is both too noisy and too stimulating for an invalid. Anyone well enough to want to enjoy all that it well enough to get out of bed.

I admit that Myrtle doing a lion-sized Larry-the-cat impersonation under Marie's podium is fun.

The Moon!

Very bright, in waxing gibbous, which means getting bigger and more than half of the Moon was visible - in fact, it looked so big it was almost a full Moon!

Mars was a pink light to its west and the Moon moved closer. Lots of cloud cover which moved very fast so sometimes we could see Mars, sometimes we couldn't. Castor and Pollux showed up once and Jupiter was all big and shiny. Apparently stars "twinkle" because their direct light is scattered over the atmosphere, and planets are a solid light because they have reflected light from the sun.

It was cold and muddy - which I didn't realise till I got home and my boots and trouser cuffs deposited bits of mud on the mat. I didn't stay till 4am when Mars almost touches the Moon, because it was cold and you can only stand staring at the night sky making small talk with two nerdy blokes for about 45 minutes.

I see we're still here. Which is lovely.

ErrolTheDragon · 14/01/2025 10:24

The convalescents' facilities have a lovely sea view, of course.

ErrolTheDragon · 14/01/2025 10:27

It was totally cloudy here last night, unfortunately, so I appreciate your lovely description, Myrtle.

lcakethereforeIam · 14/01/2025 10:33

I think it should be next to the snug. On the side nearer the toilets, I think. That has a lovely view of the meadow, the woods on the flanks of Peak Woo and the stream. The invalid can shuffle into the snug if they feel strong enough (the dress code is very relaxed, no problem with dressing gown and slippers) or, when the weather improves, they can sit outside. Either out in the sun or under the willow trees by the stream. There are tribbles cushions, steamer chairs, even hammocks. The cats will pop by. They're always happy to curl up with someone who's running a temperature. Obviously, we know several of the quokkas have a copious dressing up box some sort of medical training, the gerbil pharmacy is nearby or you can chew on some willow twigs. I think the hospitality gerbils that work in the snug would be gagging to delighted to stretch their attentive, but discrete, services to a nearby area.

Chersfrozenface · 14/01/2025 10:38

As a current convalescent, may I enquire whether fauxdies and heated blankets are acceptable?

DeanElderberry · 14/01/2025 10:39

Discreet, not discrete.

It might be advisable to make sure pedants corner is comfortable enough that those of us afflicted with the pedantry gene spend lots of time there and don't annoy the normal people.

lcakethereforeIam · 14/01/2025 10:43

Damn it! Sorry.

Heated blanket or pile of cats (probably both tbh) and pig foot stool are all fine. As we know where ever you are in the Bluestocking there is always a handy plug socket.

I have no idea what a fauxdie is.

A fauxdie is an Oodie for anyone too poor or too careful to waste money on brands.

lcakethereforeIam · 14/01/2025 10:46

Oh, sensible people.

Eta not a problem.

AlisonDonut · 14/01/2025 10:48

Today is a root day so good for planting onions, garlics and shallots. The rock solid ground however disagrees so i shall move my gardening day forward. Or is it backward? The next one anyway.

I'm off to the pottery studio [the garage] to sit practically on top of the heater and do some fettling.

Bannedontherun · 14/01/2025 11:01

Is anybody volunteering to set up the new location?

I have no idea how to link to threads and all that malarkey i am after all just a little hedgehog.

DeanElderberry · 14/01/2025 11:12

may I?

Bannedontherun · 14/01/2025 11:15

Yes please xxx

Boiledbeetle · 14/01/2025 11:37

The gerbils seem to be rather motivated today. Who fed them speed for breakfast?

lcakethereforeIam · 14/01/2025 11:55

I've left a note for Myrtle...wow, those gerbils are motivated! One of them just took it.

I'll just write a new one...there goes the notepad!

I'll scribble something on the wall...except they've taken my pen...and the wall!!? Wtf! Put me down!!!

I've taken him already. It's Colin I'm worried about.

WhiteHairedMyrtle · 14/01/2025 12:04

Hello?

Is anyone here?

Is anything here?

WhiteHairedMyrtle · 14/01/2025 12:05

It's like the bare bones of a building...

oh, even that's gone.

there's nothing but a pristine beautiful meadow...

Boiledbeetle · 14/01/2025 12:06
