Oh! Is it snowing? Don't have that issue in Deepest Darkest Peru!

Well, the button may be because birds don't really have the shoulders to keep a gown on otherwise.
But with a PhD robe shouldn't it be a Tudor-style hat not a mortarboard?

Yes, but I couldn't persuade the AI to produce a decent Tudor bonnet!

My PhD is from a, whisper, <modern> university so although the gown is the right shape for this side of the Atlantic (and does indeed try to throttle me on the regular), it looks remarkably like it was made from a pair of curtains.

No snow here just wet rain. I've set the log burner and made a fish pie for later. Neither of which is very exciting!

I'm sorry, <MAGPIECOMPLEX> isn't available to speak to you right now. This is an automated answer provided by artificial moose intelligence.
GEMINI large machine learning is trained in a metaphorical, symbolic imaginary constellation linked to astrology and associated with the sign of the twins. Either that, or in ancient Rome.

I bet it knows all the words to 'A bicycle made for two', though, and one of these days the Bluestockingers' demands are going to reduce it to singing it.. heh heh hehWink

Just rain here on the south coast of England. Hoping we miss the snow completely, as forecast.

I bought an academic gown for formal dinners off a bloke in my college - & found he'd put up a falling hem with staples! And for my graduation I hired one but nobody warned me about needing a button to fix it to (or pins), so it throttled me because I'd bought a nice new dress to wear on graduation day which had no buttons. Would've helped if they'd just told us, but the uni made a habit in those days of not telling us anything. I remember at the end of my first term they announced we'd be having collections after Christmas, & I thought, 'That's nice, I wonder what charity it's for,' & then being surprised that I had to sit an exam.

More seriously, nobody bothered to tell me how I was actually doing at the end of my second year, so I didn't know that with just a bit more effort I could've gone up a grade. They told me that after I'd finished everything - gee, thanks.

Great! Now I've got a bicycle made for two on loop in my head! (At least it's stopped Bright eyes from repeating in my head, which it had been doing since Thursday!)

Oh crap! Didn't realise the rabbits were in for a quick visit!

Can someone find me a box of tissues?

You fiend! Still, at least you didn't link to the Amsterdam mouse song, which is banned in our house for being such a ghastly earworm, along with the theme tune from Captain Pugwash & anything from the musical Chicago (which I love but can't have nowadays, like so many things).

Thanks for that. I now have a little mouse with clogs on in my head.

Sorry! Someone put an AI pic of it up a few days ago - that's why it was on my mind.

Magpiecomplex · 05/01/2025 12:59

I remember FIL trying to sing the Captain Pugwash theme to my kids and coming out with something approximately half speed. So I felt obliged to find it on YouTube to prove it wasn't supposed to be a funereal dirge, and then cursed myself for earworming us all!

On another thread I have been alerted to The Mice of Schiphol Airport.

I bet them buggers wear clogs.

WhiteHairedMyrtle · 05/01/2025 13:03

Got the wedding playlist on while we take down Christmas.

Currently playing Elbow's One Day Like This.

I like the Hozier song!

DeanElderberry · 05/01/2025 13:14

I liked the Hozier song the first couple of dozen times, but every single person with time to play music on RTÉ radio in the past week has decided that it's just what we all want to hear. Except the three who decided to play Frank Kelly's Christmas Countdown. Which I also like to hear once every Christmas. Once.

Actually it's possible some of them played Hozier and Kelly - probably pre-recorded their programmes and then left the country for the festive season.

ErrolTheDragon · 05/01/2025 13:34

I've actually got no idea what 'the Hozier song' is - should I keep it that way?

The only music I've heard today was during a couple of rounds in I'm Sorry I haven't a Clue. (Stretching the definition of the word 'music' to its limit in the case of Hemming Wehn)

DeanElderberry · 05/01/2025 13:41

That Hozier song

I'm glad someone else doesn't know who or what Hozier is. I am also a I'm sorry I haven't a clue fan. But Henning Wehn has double n, not m in Henning.

Henning Wehn is the new Jeremy Hardy, but not QUITE as tuneless. RIP lovely Jeremy.

I belatedly realised my typo ...yes, he offsets the preponderance nowadays of contestants, especially most of the female ones, who are really good singers.

Sorry Errol! I scurried into pedantry corner a bit too quickly then 😳😂

I'm still reeling from discovering that Nat King Cole - the very cool Nat King Cole, Mr Unforgettable - had Bicycle Made for Two in his repertoire.😮

I won't add to the ear-worm collection... oh wait, maybe I just have with 'Unforgettable, that's what you are...'.
