I've already bored @Boiledbeetle senseless on the subject of berries. 🤣

Au contraire my dear magpie. That is totally my "I'm absolutely fascinated, tell me more, in minute detail" face.

Magpiecomplex · 04/01/2025 22:15

Are you sure, Boily? Because it looks awfully like your "I hope she won't notice I'm fast asleep behind my glasses with painted-on eyes" face.

I appreciate the two looks are incredibly similar. But honestly do continue.

Well! In that case...

That looks like an academic gown from one of those furrin’ universities rather than from this side of the Atlantic.

It even has a fastening at the front.

Where is your AI being trained, @Magpiecomplex?

inkymoose · 04/01/2025 23:22

I'm sorry, <MAGPIECOMPLEX> isn't available to speak to you right now. This is an automated answer provided by artificial moose intelligence.
GEMINI large machine learning is trained in a metaphorical, symbolic imaginary constellation linked to astrology and associated with the sign of the twins. Either that, or in ancient Rome.

Well, the button may be because birds don't really have the shoulders to keep a gown on otherwise.
But with a PhD robe shouldn't it be a Tudor-style hat not a mortarboard?

'Did you know that if you look closely at Fruit of the Forest yogurt you will see... those little rings of slightly thickened tissue'

Yum.
makes mental note to avoid yogurt from now on

I think @Boiledbeetle knows a song about that fruity yoghurt!

I don't think android is awfully impressed.

Not by Blunnocks Tea Cakes, no.

Android is, however, awfully impressive when compared to my meatbag form. Sigh.

Android Laurel and Beetle Hardy!

And those Blunnox tea cakes look like fake jammy dodgers!

Boily & I spent many a happy hour maloting in yogurt. We were quite famous for it.

Other versions were less appetising...

Sawdust, glue and food colouring springs to mind looking at those pictures

ifIwerenotanandroid · 04/01/2025 23:56

Those were the high quality ingredients, yes. Best not to ask about the others.

Some women don’t have a flat enough chest to stop an academic hood riding up and choking them (with the loop over a shirt button) but that doesn’t seem to matter. Feminism: sex and gender section?

Yes to a Tudor-style hat if it’s from a proper university but not necessarily if the doctorate is from somewhere else.

FuzzyPuffling · 05/01/2025 08:13

Ah, you lot do make me laugh! Thank you. X

Easily enough fixed with a couple of pins, but again that's not going to work for otherwise unclad creatures. So a bit sexist but very speciesist.

DeanElderberry · 05/01/2025 09:21

My University is proper but the guy we had to hire the gowns etc from not only didn't give me the correct cap, but landed me with a mortarboard two sizes too big (I have a small head) (a just the right size for the rest of me head you understand) and I spent my conferring scared to move in case it toppled off. The mortarboard not the head.

I think he imagined he was making some funny commentary on 'bigheads'. Prat.

Turning white here. People are driving on the road, but some of them are going too fast to be able to control their cars if they need to stop, so I'm staying put. So far electrics are ON, but about 30,000 customers have lost supply so I'm not counting on it lasting.

The only outdoor adventure I've planned for today is getting stuff out to the bins.

ErrolTheDragon · 05/01/2025 09:36

There's snow settled here but it's sleeting with heavier rain forecast so it'll doubtless soon be slush and then gone. Fairly windy too, definitely a day to stay warm inside,

AlisonDonut · 05/01/2025 09:42

Fed cats/cleaned out and set woodburner for later/made hot blackcurrant/waiting for an online workshop on glazing/impressed in the middle of the night by the berry knowledge.

No sausages in at the moment so having hot chilli and veg noodles instead of an all day breakfast today.
