Did Harris lose because she was a woman?

Apparently even after calling Puerto Rico a floating island of trash, many immigrants still voted for Trump. It's been argued that some sectors of society simply won't vote for a woman.

Even on here, I saw a post asking if a woman would be respected by world leaders.

I highly doubt any of them will actually follow through and go and live in another country. Stuff like that is usually performative for social media.

Most of the celebrities who said they would leave in 2016 if Trump got in publicly backtracked after the election (Whoopi Goldberg, Miley Cyrus, Amy Schumer, etc etc)

Some maybe.

I'm in Spain right now. And there are already a lot of Americans here. They were here last month. Any group that I go to in Spain, it's full of Americans.

They told me they came partly because they predicted a Trump win, and wanted to get out.

They also said that the USA is extremely divided and they hate that about it too. And they wanted to get out because of that.

MichaelandKirk · 07/11/2024 09:59

As a PP says, the left are OBSESSED with gender and colour and use it as an excuse as to why someone lost. It really isnt that. Some people voted for her because she is black and a women.

Diane Abbott in the UKis truly hopeless and is clearly unwell. However it doesnt stop her getting a large majority every time she stands.

Look at what the Tories have done over the last few years. They really dont think its an issue that their leader is a black women. And they wont tolerate anyone leading them who they think will lose.

Biden was vain, deluded and thought he was actually doing a jolly good job. Seeing him against Trump durng the live debates was embarassing and cringy to watch and yet the Democrats tried to cover it up. We could all see the poor man didnt know what day it was and they made an announcement to say he had a cold. Lies and lies again and again. You cannot fool the public. We were in the US shortly afterwards for a number of weeks and no one was supportive of Trump and kept bringing up other peoples names should Biden be removed.

Yet - Trump won.... My view is that the left are very loud mouthed over their views and want to educate others and that pisses others off. They then keep quiet and in the ballot box (well - that is what happened yesterday) a 'big shock' occured. I will decided myself who I vote for and what I believe. I dont need anyone else to tell me I should be voting a certain way.

In my opinion Kamala lost because she's a vacuous idiot not because she's a woman. However bad you think Trump is, more than half of US voters considered her a worse choice than him.
There are always a tiny number of morons who would never vote for a woman, but I don't think that the reason here, I think it's being used as an excuse.
There are women in power all over the place. Europe has tons. Angela Merkel practically ran the whole of the European Union for 16 years.
Kemi Badenoch, a black woman, is the fourth woman leader of the Tory party in the UK. The most famous being Margaret Thatcher who was Prime Minister for 11 years.
Complaining that a person didn't win because of their sex or the colour of their skin is identity politics if you refuse to consider how good or bad a candidate was in their actions and deeds. It's stupid, and it's what got the Democrats into such a pickle in the first place. Kamala seemed terrified of explaining her message to anyone without a script, tight editorial control, and a bunch of cheerleaders behind her. She was a shit candidate who had no policy ideas. The election cycle was like a game of hide and seek for her, where's Waldo see if you can find him.
More than 50% of the population are women. Is Kamala really the best woman the Democrats could come up with? Because it seems to me they didn't look very hard.
You don't run a candidate and get to expect or demand votes because of their sex or skin colour. That's THE recipe for what just happened.

I'm not sure why pointing out that Europe has female leaders has anything to do with it.

It only proves that the USA is way behind in this area.

A lot of commentators always point out that most western countries have had a female leader at this stage.

The USA is extremely unusual in that it has never had one single female president. Ever.

There's a lot on you tube but not due to Trump as much - it's more cost of living, medical bills, better work/life balance.

They seem to go to many parts of the globe as well - have seen Spain mentioned.

So I suppose it could well be the final push for some already thinking about it.

In my opinion Kamala lost because she's a vacuous idiot not because she's a woma

Total rubbish

She is way more intelligent and qualified than Trump

Sandygoldenbeaches · 07/11/2024 11:54

If anyone thinks that it was nothing to do with Kamala being a woman. Go and have a look at DonaldTrumpJuniors instagram page.

There are loads of Trump supporters on there.

There are loads of comments saying "men do it better than women"
"men are better than women that's just the way God made it".
And they are laughing about men being better than women.

Men and women are saying these things.

I've attached screenshots of some of the comments

What colour is that? I should imagine her insulting attempt to convince actual black American women that she is just like them and understands their struggles cost her a lot of black female votes.

92% of black female voters voted for her. I don't think your theory is true

Sandygoldenbeaches · 07/11/2024 12:03

To the trump supporters on here.

What's your thoughts on women writing that

"men are better than women - that's how God wants it"

On the trump family's instagram pages.

SmileyHappyPeopleInTheSun · 07/11/2024 12:07

I have no idea how representative loud mouth twitter posters are of the entire 70 million voters who voted for Trump.

I do think Hillary Clinton and Kamala Harris and fucked over any better female candidates for at least next 8 probably longer years - because instead of the rhetoric being it they ran poor campaigns and were less than stella candidates - the story will become they were women.

It lets the Demographic party off the hook if they can blame the sex of the candidates.

But Kamala was a great candidate. She was a prosecutor, a senator, a vice president.

She was eloquent and well spoken.

It's obvious that Trump partly won because be is a man. There are huge swathes of extreme sexist societies in America.

The Bible belt which is a huge part of the US, are deeply sexist. They will say it themselves.

They see men as worth more than women.

Cecilly · 07/11/2024 12:14

Harris lost not because she is a woman but because she lost the support of her base. Trump knew what to say not only to hold onto his base, but he expanded it. A lot of Democrats either voted for 3rd party candidates or stayed at home. She did worse than Biden in 2020.

RingoJuice · 07/11/2024 12:20

Yes she had plenty of titles. but what were her actual achievements? Certainly not the border …

Not in America?

Are you for real?

I'm seeing loads of American people online saying that they want to leave America, because they hate Trump.

Instagram is full of American people talking to each other about how they can leave America.

They're telling each other which countries they can get digital nomad visas for, so they can leave the USA and work somewhere else.

Well did they vote? I certainly did

Bull shit.

She got parachuted in really late - as the only option due to Biden stepping down so very late. So she missed entire usual selection process that normally happens and time to build her campaign, The lies told about Bidens health cost them support as people felt duped. Biden called Trump voters garbage just before the election. Voters were clear in exit polls they wanted change - and she offered more of the same failing to distance herself form existing government.

I heard some of her interviews - that when I wondered about the polls because she didn't come across well at all said very little and was light on policy.

Her being female probably didn't help in USA but it not really why she lost. Margaret Thatcher was first PM in UK due to her polices no one voted her government in or out due to her sex. Lizz Truss third female PM was out due to her polices not her sex.

Men lose elections all the time and people blame election mistakes and polices - it's an easy but sexist out to blame the candidates sex when it's a woman- lets all those advisors and campaign mangers off the hook.

lemonstolemonade · 07/11/2024 12:24

@Sandygoldenbeaches

I'd have voted for Kamala Harris, but she wasn't a great candidate. She did absolutely crap in primaries, but was parachuted into a VP position. There was no evidence that she was even likely to get elected among her own candidate. What you have listed are what Kamala's supporters would say are her credentials, but that doesn't mean she is a politically astute person.

When asked on a podcast, she couldn't name a single thing she would change from Biden. She really struggled on the economy. She is a campaigner - she did a great job on abortion and things she was passionate about, but she wasn't a well rounded candidate.

Yes they voted, but the ones that I was talking to told me that far right and fascist behavior is really strong in the USA right now, and they knew that even after they voted, Trump was likely to win.

In their words, they don't want to be part of a fascist regime, so they are leaving

peanutbuttertoasty · 07/11/2024 12:28

I can easily imagine there being a female Republican president. I think that will happen long before there’s a female Democrat.

Yes because the deeply sexist parts of the USA are mostly Republican.

They hate women, but they especially hate Democrat women.

So in the unlikely event of a USA female president, yes it will definitely be aRepuplican woman before it will be a Democratic woman.

SmileyHappyPeopleInTheSun · 07/11/2024 12:35

Some one posted on another thread:

Which I thought nailed it.

I thought Nikki Haley looked good when she stood against Trump - at least looked like a decent politician - but he got chosen as their candidate.

Yes. ‘Murica would never vote in a woman, particularly a black one.

Twice they have opted against a highly-educated, highly-qualified candidate who also happens to be a woman, for a bankrupt sexual predator, guilty of rape, who mocks disabled people (and the zillion other reasons he is awful).

Now apply that logic to every scenario in life: people will always choose a terrible man over a woman, even if it makes them worse off.

And if this doesn’t spur us women on to rise to the top, I don’t know what will.

Dillydollydingdong · 07/11/2024 12:58

Maybe that might have something to do with it, but other factors weighed more heavily. She's got no charisma, no likeability, can't communicate and doesn't really understand what's important. The economy is top priority, and their problem with immigration too. She seemed to think that the abortion issue was important to people. No. Why would a poor black man care about women's abortion issues? The Democrats need to find a leader who will appeal to the people - not Harris, not Biden and not Clinton.
