I want him not to be able to give me the flannel that we have to be kind to the woMen. I want assurances that we do t have to share our spaces. I want to not sound like the very nervous person that am I!

Any help appreciated?

Jane from London - you are Jane a bloody super star from London! You go girl. I was whooping out loud listening to that!

Bodeganights · 28/06/2024 13:47

Thank you Jane, you did a fabulous job trying. Well done.

I could have screamed at the recording when he started with the "some people" schtick

LiesDoNotBecomeUs · 28/06/2024 13:49

Well done Jane (unfavoured pro-noun: John)
You have contributed so much to this debate and took it straight out into daylight.

Justme56 · 28/06/2024 13:49

I can only imagine how nervous you were. You were absolutely brilliant. A massive thank you!

PoppySeedBagelRedux · 28/06/2024 13:53

You were brilliant Jane, as others have said you were so much better than journalists. It's obvious now what their policy is.

I couldn't bring myself to vote Labour in my postal vote, and I don't regret it, after that performance by Starmer.

Starmer accused of ‘absolute twaddle’ in single-sex spaces row

A member of the public challenges the Labour leader on a radio phone-in, saying he is not listening to biological women

Sir Keir Starmer has clashedd_ with a caller who accused him of speaking “absolute twaddle” over access to single-sex spaces.
In a phone-in on BBC Radio 5 Livee, a listener called Jane also accused the Labour leaderr of “not listening to biological women when they say they don’t want to share a space with biological men”.
Sir Keir’s party has vowed to protect single-sex spacess but would also make it easier for people to legally change genderr by reforming the Gender Recognition Act.
When he talked about his past experience and having “worked with those protecting spaces” as chief prosecutor, Jane dubbed his response “absolute twaddlee_”.
Sir Keir replied: “I will protect women’s spaces, that is my commitment. But just hear me out, there are some people who do not identify with the gender they are born into, they are often traumatised by that. There has been a process in place...

“We will protect women’s spaces, I’ve been clear about for a very long time. I know you don’t want to hear what I have done but we will do it in the future as well.”

Well done @bleughgreen I keep thinking that Starmer would be able to give a straight answer to this question if the journalists probed deeper. You proved that wasn’t the case

He can give a straight answer but he doesn’t want to - hence this meandering answer. It’s what he does every time. It’s patently obvious that he wants to permit men with GRCs in single sex spaces, and I fully expect Labour to try to change the law to Stonewall Law.

He gives clues in his meandering: TW are ‘traumatised’ - so they should be allowed in female only rape centres; TW are upset by their biological sex - so we should let them use the Ladies toilets.

I had already decided not to vote for Labour, but having listened to Keir’s evasive answer, I feel a lot happier about not voting for Labour.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 28/06/2024 13:58

It was quite funny how the men both got offended when Jane said it was a "non answer".

Oh brilliant @bleughgreen

You deserve this coverage. You were so good

From that first I don’t want to hear about that

Hermittrismegistus · 28/06/2024 14:00

You were fantastic. Well done!

UpThePankhurst · 28/06/2024 14:01

Jane, just got to hear it as I couldn't access a radio this morning. You were magnificent. He squirmed and waffled but could not escape the very obvious point that when he says 'I will protect women's biological single sex spaces' he means in the same breath 'AND let men in if they get GRCs which I plan to throw to men like smarties'.

A liar, a coward and a misogynist. The most important thing to him and to Labour about women's rights and equalities is that they should help men.

littlbrowndog · 28/06/2024 14:02

He should be known evermore as starmer who talks absolute twaddle

Bodeganights · 28/06/2024 14:02

BinkyBeaufort · 28/06/2024 10:41

Thank you Jane, for trying to get a straight answer.
I've just emailed my Labour candidate explaining exactly why she won't be getting my vote.
It's such a shame that there is no other party that will admit that, whilst trans people are as worthy of respect as anyone else, biological women's spaces need to be protected.

Well there is, but it's the Tory party and I think SDP.
Which as the SDP is pretty low down on the list of parties, means in effect the Tories are the ones to vote for.
Or just spoil your ballot like many of us do.

mrshoho · 28/06/2024 14:06

Fair play to you Jane, a fantastic direct question. We can clearly see what Starmer and his Labour part have in store for Women.

Datun · 28/06/2024 14:13

That was brilliant Jane, well done. Articulate, angry, coherent.

Starmer looked liked an absolute twat. Evasive and sneaky.

He cannot keep saying he will protect women's spaces and in the same fucking sentence tell us that he's going to provide men with a simple means to access them.

It's just bloody lies.

But the other really good thing about this is he was so obviously on the ropes, that any journalist worth their salt should now get the bit between their teeth, and continue this line of questioning.

And Yes, it was noted that neither men particularly liked a woman getting uppity.

Bodeganights · 28/06/2024 14:15

mumda · 28/06/2024 13:40

We can either have women only spaces or we can believe people can change sex. Which does he pick?

This is a good question, short, to the point, easily understood.

If anyone else gets to ask starmer a question try this one.

RebelMoon · 28/06/2024 14:15

I heard you this morning Jane (without having seen this thread) and I just knew you you were a MNer. I was cheering you on. Well played!

UpThePankhurst · 28/06/2024 14:15

And you are absolutely right Jane, bravo for spelling it out - now watch this spun as women being transphobic and unreasonable

Women do not want men in their spaces regardless of how that man views himself, what labels he has chosen for himself, how vulnerable or distressed he is, and whether or not he has a legal fiction on paper .

It is very clear that Starmer doesn't believe that anyone changes sex; just that for some very sad and vulnerable men, it's right that they get to use women and invade their spaces, and it's the job of women to suck this up naicely like good girls.

Women are NOT walking resources for men to use. Find another answer for them.

LiesDoNotBecomeUs · 28/06/2024 14:19

Thanks for the suggestion (on who to vote for if you want to support women's rights/safety) above. I looked up the SDPs policies and they look promising!

There is no SDP candidate here (Labour V Liberal D will be the fight I think) so I'm sending the party money to help where they can stand.

My vote is still floating.

SidewaysOtter · 28/06/2024 14:22

I hope that some Labour SPAD is reading this because this right here - Starmer’s obfuscation, failure to understand how women feel and the endless fucking absolute twaddle - is why I am now an ex Labour voter.

You might be in power this time next week but if you think we’re going to shut up and go away then you’re sorely mistaken.

SamW98 · 28/06/2024 14:27

You were fantastic OP 👏👏👏👏

MysticCatLady · 28/06/2024 14:30

Thank you Jane 🙏🏽

VickyEadieofThigh · 28/06/2024 14:31

We all knew Labour were not going to change their position and policy on this - but it's still depressing to hear it.

HoneyButterPopcorn · 28/06/2024 14:32

Just heard you Jane. How you kept your cool I don’t know! Brava!

Mylovelygreendress · 28/06/2024 14:32

Brilliant Jane ! Thank you .
