I want him not to be able to give me the flannel that we have to be kind to the woMen. I want assurances that we do t have to share our spaces. I want to not sound like the very nervous person that am I!

Any help appreciated?

Woah, he sounded so slippery and frankly lacking in confidence as soon as you pushed him outside the scripted lines he has.

Brava!

Justkoko · 28/06/2024 12:32

I think this is on The Express website!

corlan · 28/06/2024 12:39

Well done Jane - you didn't let him off the hook despite his wriggling. How the hell us he going to protect womens spaces and make it easier to get a GRC? It's bullshit.

Morwenscapacioussleeves · 28/06/2024 12:39

Jane 👏👏👏
well done you fabulous woman 🎉

Mycatsmudge · 28/06/2024 12:48

You were absolutely brilliant Jane, he’s definitely not going to take anymore calls from people called Jane this side of the election😁

Loved how you just kept coming back to the original question and not letting him twaddle about other stuff. I was an undecided voter but now know this is the most important issue in this election. Within 5 years of a Labour government biological women will be second class citizens if we don’t continue to hold KS and his mob’s feet to the fire and defend our single sex spaces with the brilliance and ferocity you’ve shown today👏

ChishiyaBat · 28/06/2024 12:49

Thank you Jane, that was wonderful!

JuneFTW · 28/06/2024 12:50

Jane you absolute legend! Loved all of it, and especially the "why are you putting our dignity on the line?"

Thank you for standing up for women and girls!

paasll · 28/06/2024 12:54

What I find really astonishing is that Jane’s question was not something that was unexpected or something he’d never been asked - it is an issue that he’s well aware of. He answered like a muppet. Which is worrying re competence because he should have had a well thought out answer for an issue he was well aware of.

Not only that, what I thought was really excellent, was when he started diverting to stuff he’d previously done (in typical politician style) and Jane said, no we don’t care about that 🤣. More interviewers should direct politicians back to the actual question like that.

Boiledeggandtoast · 28/06/2024 13:12

Thank you Jane and brava, you were terrific!

BloodyHellKenAgain · 28/06/2024 13:14

A thousand thank yous Jane, you absolute legend. Starmer is so slippery over this issue and the more I've seen/heard him challenged on it the less I like him.

UtopiaPlanitia · 28/06/2024 13:19

Oh @bleughgreen I’m so impressed with you and how you stuck to your guns and spoke up for women’s dignity - I especially loved your wonderful sighing in response to his attempt to read his CV out to you.

I would have just yelled 'What about AGP, Kier?’ At him repeatedly so it’s just as well I’ve never had a chance to speak to him 😏

Flowers4me · 28/06/2024 13:22

Well done Jane for getting your points in and not letting Starmer dominate this discussion. I felt it showed him up as a slippery and contradictory character and not someone I can trust with my rights and that of my daughters.

LiesDoNotBecomeUs · 28/06/2024 13:24

I'm so sorry not to be able to vote labour. This does confirm all my worst fears.

I'm a natural lefty and always have been but listening to finger-pointing-at-the-past and other slippery answers on such a vital matter has made me one of the politically homeless.

NotThereNow · 28/06/2024 13:25

Well done Jane. I hope you can see all the congrats messages on X.

DrSpartacular · 28/06/2024 13:26

Thank you and brava, Jane Flowers

PronounssheRa · 28/06/2024 13:30

There's a lot of love on twitter for Jane.

Most making the point that you did the job most journalists have been avoiding by pushing back on the very obvious scripted questions to try to get clear answers

Lindos1 · 28/06/2024 13:33

Brilliant job Jane! Thank you!

dollybird · 28/06/2024 13:37

Well done, Jane, you were brilliant 👏 KS is a slimy little toad

You were brilliant @bleughgreen and the great Joan Smith (pollblonde on Twitter) on Twitter/X has retweeted the clip of your conversation - good for you for trying to get Sir Keir to actually answer the question.

He can't.

I'm so angry & upset about the Labour party's disregard of women. We shouldn't feel that choosing to vote for Labour is dangerous for our sex or a compromise of our politics (if we are left of centre, or even centre left).

Shitehound · 28/06/2024 13:39

Thank you Jane, for being so articulate and not backing down or giving him an inch! I'm in awe of the way you handled Starmer when he tried to weasel his way out of answering a very simple question.... He is just appalling and dangerous for women and girls.

You absolutely rock 💘

@Ereshkigalangcleg
This is a good summary page for recent polling.

Thanks for the link but I clicked on the Toilets one as I thought that was most pertinent to the debate and it shows that 90% of people support single sex toilets or single sex plus a gender neutral option. So, most people DO want single sex spaces:

https://yougov.co.uk/topics/society/trackers/support-for-separate-toilets-for-men-and-women-and-gender-neutral-toilets-in-public-spaces

Support for separate toilets for men and women, and gender neutral toilets in public spaces

Do you think public spaces should have separate toilets for men and women, gender neutral toilets, or both?

itsmylife7 · 28/06/2024 13:39

Jane you rocked you were on 🔥.

You're on twitter and it's been widely shared.

Bloody brilliant the way you had him stumbling.

mumda · 28/06/2024 13:40

We can either have women only spaces or we can believe people can change sex. Which does he pick?

narniabusiness · 28/06/2024 13:41

Well done @bleughgreen I keep thinking that Starmer would be able to give a straight answer to this question if the journalists probed deeper. You proved that wasn’t the case

itsmylife7 · 28/06/2024 13:42

The actor James from thin blue line and gimme gimme has commented and shared your bit of the interview.
