I want him not to be able to give me the flannel that we have to be kind to the woMen. I want assurances that we do t have to share our spaces. I want to not sound like the very nervous person that am I!

Any help appreciated?

Cheekychops73 · 28/06/2024 16:50

@JanefromLondon1 that was amazing and so good to see so many people on twitter agreeing with you. I particularly liked the 'twaddle' and the audible sigh from you it was perfect.

ShinyPebble32 · 28/06/2024 16:52

The conservatives have posted the clip on their Instagram account! You were brilliant 💪🏽

Precis of the above: I'm all right, Jack.

I wonder if *Viviennemary *
Will need to use a hospital for instance, or have an intimate exam or a mammogram? Or maybe she is a chap that does not care about us at all.

BettyFilous · 28/06/2024 16:55

If Keir and Nicky think Jane was a one-off angry woman, they have no idea. We’re just warming up. We won’t lie down while the rights and equal recognition that previous generations of women fought for are taken from us.

Let's not forget it is the Conservatives that have presided over this reduction in women's rights so far.

Or use a toilet outside their home.

Those who are saying Labour won't get your vote as a result of this - do you believe the Tories will stick to their pledge to change the Equality Act if they get in?

Genuine question and I'm not trying to tell anyone what to think re this, but I personally don't think any of the major parties will keep any promises they make on this issue at all, sadly.

It's not just either/or, Labour or Tory.

I won't vote Labour, mainly because of this issue. I won't be voting Tory either, despite this issue.

There's actually no-one I can vote for.

Yeah, we keep hearing that.

But the Conservatives aren't going to be the next government.

So it's Labour we have to worry about, with very good reason.

And are doing their best to scrabble back and clarify the law for example. Labour are headfirst in there and going for it.

I think they will get in but the landslide won't happen. We really do not need the ludicrous Lib Dems as the opposition though as they are gender obsessed fools also.

eurochick · 28/06/2024 16:59

@Viviennemary I agree politicians should stop spending time on this. They could easily do that if they adopted a sane position that protects all parties: trans people have the right to express their gender however they want through name, dress, behaviour, etc. However as they remain the biological sex they are born in limited circumstances where the Equality Act permits single sex provision they will not be permitted to access services or spaces provided for the other biological sex.

cavalier · 28/06/2024 17:00

Jane is fantastic and a star 🌟
She told him straight and he hated it .. squirmer stammer starmer !!!

Beekeepingmum · 28/06/2024 17:02

ActivePeony · 28/06/2024 16:33

And women can have penises obvs...

Given there are about the same number of trans men as trans women, there will be biological women with "penises" who would have to return to female rather than male spaces.

cavalier · 28/06/2024 17:03

NeedToChangeName · 28/06/2024 15:51

KS went on about how he wants to protect "women's spaces". That's meaningless, as he thinks that TWAW. So, I'm assuming he thinks it's OK for a TW to be on a female hospital ward etc

I want to know if he would protect these spaces for "biological females"

Exactly !
A man identifying as a woman because of Starmer will be able to visit ladies as a carer .. only women are allowed to wash women and deal with their personal hygiene requirements… This is going to unravel so many issues and risks
My youngest son was a carer for 1 year and the males are not allowed to wash the ladies .. they are only allowed to attend the men.

Only cause there is an election. A bit like the taxes once they are elected it will back to the same. If they cared they would have taken action already.

viques · 28/06/2024 15:26

Why does there need to be a third trans space? First of all that is then turning the whole biological males and biological females in the same space into an issue for transmen to have to deal with - unless the plan is for third spaces to be exclusively for transwomen, and secondly it is ignoring the question of why isn’t the issue about getting men to accept transwomen into male spaces, it seems to be fine to say women have to accept transwomen into their spaces , but no one ever says let’s campaign for men to be kind and accept transwomen .

And thirdly , the whole third space argument falls at the first hurdle because transwomen don’t want them, nor do they want access to mens spaces, they want womens spaces, no substitutions accepted.

sorry , this was in response to @Namechangey23

Edited

I believe in third spaces because it is a reasonable response to the argument that TW don’t feel safe in male toilets, prisons, communal changing rooms etc. Third spaces are obviously mixed sex, so also provide an option for TM and non-binary. Yes being mixed sex increases the risk for the women and girls who chose to use them but women and girls, including TM and NB (RFAB), would also be able to choose the safer single sex provision.

I also see it as a preferred option to the current trend towards unisex/gender neutral provision which is replacing single sex provision. This sees the creation of enclosed cubicles which have implications from a health and safety perspective e.g. spotting someone is unconscious.

We already have third spaces in the form of disabled and changing places so adding a unisex option preserves single sex spaces whilst creating a suitable alternative for trans and non-binary people.

Vocal TRAs may not want third spaces for obvious reasons but it is a compromise it is hard to argue against. No debate is over and I believe the vast majority of the population would see third spaces as a way to give TW dignity and respect whilst also giving women dignity and respect by retaining single sex spaces.

InWithPeaceOutWithStress · 28/06/2024 17:05

Wow Jane well done, you smashed it

SallyLockheart · 28/06/2024 17:06

Thank you Jane - you are taking Twitter by storm, plus special mention in the Telegraph about "talking twaddle" 😁

Beekeepingmum · 28/06/2024 17:02

I think there are rather more TM than TW. And not many have the appalling surgery.
Also - third spaces can be a thing if they do not want to use the ladies.

DuesToTheDirt · 28/06/2024 17:08

@Harassedevictee I believe 3rd spaces are the way to go as well. However, it's not always possible - small cafes for example. Some cafes only have 1 loo for everyone to share. Some have 2 loos, male and female. Should they now have to provide a 3rd one, at extra cost and using up more space? I was thinking of this when listening earlier to an interview with Angela Rayner, when she was pushed repeatedly on what a transwoman should do in a restaurant with male/female loos and she wouldn't give a direct answer, just kept saying everyone deserved respect (irrelevant), and the restaurant should provide for everyone's needs (not always possible). Plus we know that some transwomen refuse to use 3rd spaces.

Another old chestnut being dragged up: in essence 'say no to men, and you'll have to have women with beards and you won't like that'.

Actually no, women of any appearance are fine thanks.

And anyway, its about keeping men out of single sex women's spaces. If men then want single sex spaces, they can sort out their own issues.

It has been a growing issue and now it is critical. Labour gave us the shitty legislation and it has been taken advantage of by men. Had the LP been in power we would be in a MUCH worse place now. Probably exactly where we are heading tbh.
