I want him not to be able to give me the flannel that we have to be kind to the woMen. I want assurances that we do t have to share our spaces. I want to not sound like the very nervous person that am I!

Any help appreciated?

Jane is my hero.

Well done.

❤️

He has more important things to think about than this. I wish folk would stop banging this drum. It really is getting on my nerves. Its not a huge issue for most women IMHO. It is an issue but not an important one. If I was an athlete I'd think it was important. Or in prison but I'm not.

Precis of the above: I'm all right, Jack.

Some days are good days and this is one of them thanks to you. I'm furious too. You are bang on the money there about it being a slur.

More of the 'be kind' nonsense as well on going on. I'm so angry at myself that I was so stupid about being kind, happily now I'm just furious. You should change your name to Furious Jane from London !

Tough really.

You may want to protect Starmer but luckily Jane did better than listen to your wishes

That's a very blinkered attitude. That would be like me saying I don't care about benefits or disability policies because I don't need them. But I do care, because i can see the bigger picture and am not an asshat.

LiesDoNotBecomeUs · 28/06/2024 16:13

I've listened to the call - Jane your fury was controlled and magnificent.
You spoke for me - thank-you!

How I wish more 'interviewers' would be as direct as you and as unwilling to accept the pre-packaged meaning-free answer.

I want to call my daughters 'Jane'!

Oh wow! What a day, Jane! An accolade from JKR and sticking it to Starmer. Bet you never thought you'd be doing that today.

I only just listened to it and Starmer was clearly sticking to his script for That Question from the Pesky Woman. He is/was a barrister - why can't he think on his feet?

I don't know who that patronising rubbish about born in the wrong body, trauma etc, was aimed at, Jane or the general audience, but he ought to cut that our right away. It's insulting.

BTW I didn't hear any reference to Brianna Ghey, who was reported as being mentioned by KS - was edited out? In fact, I dont think I can have heard everything from what others have said. I've not read whole thread, but will.

Was the Brianna remark when he tried to say that Sunak had made a transphobic remark in the HOC? I am pleased to say he didn’t get that nasty dig in as our Jane closed it down pdq. It is appalling that Starmer can weaponise a child’s murder ,has the man no shame or moral compass?

Jane being tweeted by JKR! it’s like six degrees of separation, but in three, mumsnet, Jane, JKR .

Respectgoesbothways · 28/06/2024 16:16

Foxxo · 28/06/2024 10:27

because the people i know in RL who claim 'GC' beliefs are actually transphobes, and don't believe my friends have any right to even exist. <shrug>

If you have GC views and don't think that, great!

Of course trans people have a right to exist. I'm as GC as they come but I'm not a bigot. I'm a woman who wants to protect women only spaces. I don't want my religious friends to exclude themselves from female spaces because biological males are present. I don't want women who have been traumatised by men to exclude themselves from safe spaces because males are present. I don't want girls in changing rooms with unknown male bodies. Where do we go if we have to exclude ourselves from places where we should feel safe?

Rightsraptor · 28/06/2024 16:17

Jane, you are now in the DailyTelegraph (digital and behind a paywall).

@Viviennemary - what if you have a daughter who's an athlete? What if you find yourself in prison one day? Will you care then?

Harassedevictee · 28/06/2024 16:21

If you’re a woman and don’t think this is an issue for you, you really don’t understand what is at stake.

We will keep banging the drum, because women’s rights are important- for me, as a woman everything follows on from that.

There were once women who really didn’t see the need for women to have the vote. There have always been appeasers of men amongst women,

Waxdrip · 28/06/2024 16:23

Absolute twaddle is a great phrase!

Or in hospital or in the gym changing room or if you were ever raped and needed counselling, or if your child told you they wanted to mutilate their body or if you missed out on an award/sponsorship/ bursary, or if you wanted to start a women only group or you needed intimate care.
Ok maybe none of these things will ever apply to you either but they might apply to someone you love.
Is it an issue then?
I’m post menopausal but I would defend abortion rights to my dying breath. Because I care about other women and their rights.
Do you?

As the old misquote goes, "If you can keep your head when everybody round you is losing theirs, it is very probable that you don’t understand the situation."

How very selfish and short sighted of you.

LarkLane · 28/06/2024 16:28

Did I miss a scolder? He's a very busy man is he? Better things to do than to answer questions from the public on the radio? Or just the one who ran rings around him, to the extent that she made a national paper!

Oh dear
How sad
Never mind.
