A few months back: https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/womens_rights/4946014-bodyshop-loses-customer-support-lol

Today's news is that The Bodyshop has gone into administration. No surprise to MNetters!

If only these companies bothered listening to their core demographic, instead of treating us as 'those menstruators' over there.

Oh well.

Bodyshop loses customer support, lol | Mumsnet

Thought I'd post this for people (like me) who emailed their CEO a couple to years ago about how they were alienating their core demographic, us. Re...

I used to shop there. I boycotted them over JKR and other stuff.

I'm surprised the press reports haven't picked up on some of the very real reasons for its demise.

NoOrdinaryMorning · 13/02/2024 15:31

I know they're not really the same company as original Body Shop but I'm still sad to see them go

Tatumm · 13/02/2024 18:12

Whoever took over after the Roddicks ruined it. I loved their campaigning and products back in the day.

Who holds the recipes for the old favorites? They would make a fortune selling banana conditioner, peppermint foot lotion, ice blue shampoo, dewberry body wash, and those bath balls filled with scented oil.

Squirrelsnut · 13/02/2024 18:16

I want the clear coconut oil shampoo, the packets of henna and rose musk oil.

LoveAHamSandwhich · 13/02/2024 18:18

Lush next, please.

Redcar78 · 13/02/2024 18:20

Their white musk was brilliant but they left me no choice but to boycott them 🤷‍♀️

HowNice23 · 13/02/2024 18:35

The packets of henna!!! I'd forgotten those. Agree on the old ranges. Lovely fresh fruity stuff that wasn't 15 quid a bloody tub!

megletthesecond · 13/02/2024 18:59

I think Lush might have some of the old recipes for body shop products as they started off working together. The odd Lush product pops up with an old body shop scent.

CranfordScones · 13/02/2024 19:04

And at the original Brighton shop, you could take your bottles/jars in and they'd refill them behind the counter.

Squirrelsnut · 13/02/2024 21:31

Fuzzy Peach! And the camomile shampoo.
Memories...

'I used to shop there. I boycotted them over JKR and other stuff.'

Ditto. Used to spend quite a bit of money with them too

I havent seen a squeak about JKR or 'menstruators' in any of the press coverage. Not exactly shocked

Joolsin · 13/02/2024 21:36

I loved their coconut hair gel - that stuff set like glue! Never went back after they discontinued it.

BirthdayRainbow · 13/02/2024 21:37

Ice cream shower gel as well.

I stopped going in as there was too much pressure but when one wanted actual help it wasn't forthcoming. Too much pressure selling attempts too.

TheSlantedOwl · 13/02/2024 21:37

I boycotted them too, due to their dismissal of women’s rights.

A shop primarily aimed at women, which flagrantly alienates women, closing down? What a shocker.

OpalOrchid · 13/02/2024 21:39

I feel sorry for all the women losing their jobs.

TheSlantedOwl · 13/02/2024 22:03

Yes. The BS would have safeguarded those jobs if they hadn’t undermined women’s rights with their rhetoric. Such a shame.

Tiffanyis · 13/02/2024 22:06

I cancelled my loyalty card after JKR and told them why. Never set foot in there again, and neither did adult DD.

Those little bath balls! Just been transported back to my childhood and how they would leave a squidgy mess at the bottom of the bath.

WingingItSince1973 · 13/02/2024 22:22

It's sad it's totally lost it's original ethos. Anita Roddick sold it and it went downhill from there. Reminds me of Cath Kidston and all her values but then she shipped production overseas and sold her shares. Look where that is now.

Ooh yes the smell of that dewberry 💕

3smallpups · 13/02/2024 22:37

I read Anita roddicks autobiography before I set up my own business and found it inspiring, and full of useful advice.
Loved the body shop and spent a lot there as a sixth former and impoverished student. Can still smell the peppermint foot lotion and that weird henna paste stuff for hair .Lately however, I have a lot more disposable income but wouldn't spend any of it with them as the prices are shocking and the values dubious. It's not really a surprise it has failed but am sorry for the employees .

EightMonthsScared · 13/02/2024 22:52

The JK tweets should go down in history as a Rattner moment.

I can't understand why the press can't see why droves of women abandoned Bodyshop.

Robotik · 14/02/2024 05:04

Ah well

after their treatment of jkr I refused to step foot in there

reap what you sow and all that

AutumnCrow · 14/02/2024 05:10

Why are all the main news outlets reporting on this not picking up on the JKR ramifications? Is anyone reporting on it properly and honestly yet?

Mrspatmoresspoon · 14/02/2024 05:11

I’ve seen quite a bit in the press over the last few days about the rise and fall of Bodyshop none of which mentions the JKR thing which is a shame as it’s a warning to other companies (lush, snag I’m looking at you)
