A few months back: https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/womens_rights/4946014-bodyshop-loses-customer-support-lol

Today's news is that The Bodyshop has gone into administration. No surprise to MNetters!

If only these companies bothered listening to their core demographic, instead of treating us as 'those menstruators' over there.

Oh well.

Bodyshop loses customer support, lol | Mumsnet

Thought I'd post this for people (like me) who emailed their CEO a couple to years ago about how they were alienating their core demographic, us. Re...

The comments after the Times article about this were full of JKR references.

user8800 · 14/02/2024 06:54

I boycotted them, too, after the JKR comments.

Ditto Lush.

I used to spend ££££ in those shops, but they both made it very clear that as a mere menstruator, I was not important.

I am not shocked they have called the administrators in.

I imagine other such captured companies like Lush and modi bodi will be next.

You know, when you consider that women - adult human females - choose and buy 80% of retail products it's rather baffling to treat them in such a derisory way 🤷‍♀️

I really don’t think that your boycott was the reason for the body shops closure but I’m glad you all think it’s funny to laugh at the fact that thousands of people are losing their jobs.

BrightGreenGoose · 14/02/2024 09:42

My 14 year old still shops there, she'll be sad to see it go.
I used to love getting one of their gift baskets for Christmas. It hasn't been the same for years.
I don't get the live for white musk and dewberry though. I was an ananya or however you spelt it girl. Even used to drop the oil in a little clay ring around a light bulb in my bedroom.
Edited for typo

Of course it’s a terrible shame for the people losing their jobs but it’s the fault of the body shop not anyone else’s and I think you underestimate the ramifications of their actions and tweets to JKR.

I boycotted too - and Lush. Of course I feel awful for those losing their jobs however not awful enough to not stick to what I believe in.

Ah well. Anyone recommend a moisturiser with SPF to replace the anti-pollution skin defence cream body shop do/did for £22?

Macaroni46 · 15/02/2024 13:40

I started using their products as a young teenager and stayed loyal for over 30 years.
But recently they started to change or discontinue old favourites, replacing them with dubious and inferior new products. And the prices got ridiculous so I stopped using them. Am guessing many longstanding customers went the same way.
I do feel sad it's going but it was kinda inevitable.
