@RebelliousCow the difference is this is an ongoing colonisation and settling project, an illegal one in many parts. And immediately prior to the Nakba there was peace amongst all...

Most people can agree that the West Bank situation needs to be sorted - but that cannot happen until a two state solution is agreed. It was originally agreed by Israel - but this was turned down and now we have the problem of aggressive settlers. But Israel has removed its settlers before - from Gaza - and it can do so again.

PastaDog22 · 01/02/2024 17:00

@RebelliousCow imagine if I was on here saying Israel didn't exist. You would all be reporting me for flagrant racism. I actually can't believe you're sat there writing such outrageous propaganda designed to erase an entire people.

You could say it, but it wouldn't be true. Israel is a country, an official state, and it exists. Palestine has never existed as a country or a state. It was land under the Ottoman Empire inhabited by many peoples.

PastaDog22 · 01/02/2024 17:07

@RebelliousCow I believe the majority of countries around the world (something like 90%) were not "official" states in the western sense. That doesn't mean they didn't exist. And it doesn't mean Palestine didn't exist. It just means Zionists managed to get an Israeli state registered with a little help from Balfour. It just means they OG colonialists have a helping hand to their budding protégé, Israel.

Countries are sovereign states and are recognised as such if they qualify.

Palestine was an area of land in what was commonly known as southern syria under the Ottomans. It has never existed as an independent country or state. 'Palestinians' as such are an modern creation. Ther are families in Gaza who originated in Turkey, for example. There had never been a Palestinian government until after partition and The Palestinian Authority and Hamas are as close as there has ever been to a functioning democracy. Although Hamas has not held an elction since the early 2000s. Gaza and The West Bank are almost entirely dependent on foreign aid to exist. There is no functional economy.

Thanks, OP. An eloquent letter.

Indeed. ❤️

The denial from fellow 'supposed ' women is disgusting- they can stay in the dark ages afaik.

LaDerniereVacheFolle · 01/02/2024 17:24

Well said @RebelliousCow

@PastaDog22 you've mentioned that Jews and Palestinians lived peacefully side by side pre Israel's establishment. There were a number of outbreaks of violence, and pogroms over the centuries. My great grandmother, a multi generation Palestinian Jew from tzfat (safed) was witness as a child to the 1929 Tzfat pogrom (happened at the same time as the infamous Hebron massacre) Her house was set on fire to flush the family out, they ran into the neighbour's house, and found them murdered, then ran to a British Mandate building ( I think some sort of government building) for safety. the Jews who fled were then shot at by a policeman when they were sheltering in the courtyard of the British mandate government building. This is the first hand account she gave to us. The bullet holes can still be seen on walls there.

I am aware that there were various incidences of violence but it was relatively peaceful overall as a multicultural/ multiethnic region.

My own family, from the exact same region (I wonder if we're related?) was run out by a Zionist militia. Most of my mother's family didn't make it out alive.

EllaDisenchanted · 01/02/2024 18:48

I'm sorry @PastaDog22 for what it is worth ❤

It is interesting that your roots are in the same region. We found her grandfather's/uncle's home but not the exact location of her childhood home, but as she had dementia in her latter years, and has now passed away, we probably won't ever know.

I'm sorry to hear that and that she had that experience.

Pasta let me turn this around for you: Hamas to release all the Israeli hostages they took on 7 October so that a ceasefire can be agreed. I know you are understandably coloured by the experience of your mother's family but the ongoing situation since Israel was created is in many shades of grey and we all believe the history we are told.
Hamas took over Gaza - they repeat that they will carry out the same outrages as they did on 7 October until all Jews are killed. Do you agree with them?

sunshinesupermum · 02/02/2024 12:46

Ella my cousin is married to an Israeli Jew whose family goes back seven generations in Jerusalem. The disinformation that Jews did not live there prior to 1948 is a disgrace. I'm sorry to read of your great grandmother's experience.

Why do people think the history of the region began in 1948.? Did all history began then?

Genuine question - is that what Palestinians are taught? That's scary if so.

Because anyone who knows history knows Jewish people are indigenous to Israel. Thousands of years before Islam.

I say this as a gentile.

So the IRA comparing this to British Imperialism and SA comparing it to Apartheid, immediately lose my respect, why are they pretending (on the world stage) that Jewish people are occupiers of this region?

What's the agenda?

sunshinesupermum · 02/02/2024 13:01

You are quite right LaDeniere - most people do not know the history of the region. I only know it in detail as I am a British Jew and have studied it. Thank you for understanding that Israel is not a colonial power nor is apartheid practised there, as I detailed in an earlier post.

No problem. I love reading and learning, especially history and I've never approached it with one side or the other in mind ❤️.

I don't think you need to be Jewish to appreciate how disturbing this vilification of Jewish women is (well I hope not).

"A story about antisemitism, feminism and one of the world’s most iconic buildings.

On October 8 the Sydney Opera House lit up in solidarity with Israel which had just seen the biggest single day massacre of Jews since the Holocaust.

That evening a large crowd gathered outside. Whether they sang ‘gas the Jews’ or ‘where’s the Jews’ is irrelevant: these were racist & threatening chants about Jews just after hundreds of Jews had been murdered.

Earlier this month, pro Palestinian activists ‘doxxed’ the 600 members of a Jewish group of academics and people in the creative industry leading to harassment. One of those proud to dox these frightened Jews was a ‘feminist’ called Clementine Ford.

Ford is a darling of the left and despite her behaviour (which has led to the Australian govt saying it wants to outlaw doxxing) she is still the curator of a ‘feminist’ event at the Sydney Opera House next month for International Women’s Day.

Ford vilifies Australian Jewish women, calling them "enthusiastic supporters of a murderous regime", "pathetic", "disgusting" and "fucking basic and gross".

On her ‘curated’ list of feminists speaking, meanwhile, is a woman called Randa Abdel-Fattah, who denies the rapes of Jewish women on October 7. Some feminist".

It is time for the international communities of feminists, Jews and anyone who cares about antisemitism and women to ask @SydOperaHouse what it is doing."
