Conscription for women

I’ve just read what the head of Army has announced on DM that it’s likely conscription is to return if the conflict with Russia escalates. Reading up on it and asking some people who I believe are in the know they seem to think this might be first war where women will be expected to fight on the front line. I’m going to be honest this terrifies me is anyone else ready to die in a ditch in Russia somewhere? I thought these days were over but apparently even with atom bombs we still have to duke it out the old fashioned way.

Some posters need to educate themselves on how sexual violence and use of this to deliberately impregnate women means there is an additional HUGE fucking risk factor to consider when sending women, especially hastily trained civilians off to war.

By their logic men should be able to smack a woman because some women throw the first (much less potentially deadly) punch. They started it. Give them what they dish out and all.

@MyopicBunny so you want equality, but on your terms where you get to choose which equality you want and dismiss any 'not fair' equality? Bananas!

What exactly do you think equality is? Women being treated like men and expected to do things that men can do?

Feminism is about acknowledging the impact childbearing has on women. Not expecting women to be able to go to war and have the same physical abilities of a man. How ridiculous.

tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz · 24/01/2024 16:05

And there is also the small matter of repopulation. One man = lots of sperm
One woman = a few babies.

So yup we absolutely can't be sending all the females off to play GI Jane

Brumbies · 24/01/2024 16:05

Absolutely - if men are conscripted so women should be too.

Quite. Some very dim posts on this thread from people with a very childish view of what equality means Hmm

The public largely won’t comply.

I think you’re probably right.

JenniferBooth · 24/01/2024 16:15

Iwasafool · 24/01/2024 12:07

You know men get raped in war, they also get tortured and die. I don't think having a vagina is a get out of jail free card, in fact people, men and women, get raped via other orifices.

No but as usual there are posters on this thread who think having kids should be a get out of jail free card

tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz · 24/01/2024 16:21

Has anyone made it as simplistic as that?

SherrieElmer · 24/01/2024 16:23

ohdamnitjanet · 24/01/2024 16:09

I think you’re probably right.

The problem with the public not complying is that the chances of us losing the war would go up considerably.

Or, even worse, we could end up finding ourselves in the middle of a nuclear war.

MRSMTO · 24/01/2024 07:04

They'll have to shoot me at dawn then because I'm not fighting fuck all.

Same.

JenniferBooth · 24/01/2024 16:30

They mean working class people right. Including those living in social housing
Because im sure they would be happy to step up after being told they are entitled and should be grateful , that they are more likely to have problems and that they affect the value of privately owned houses nearby.

Yeah Fuck off!

JenniferBooth · 24/01/2024 16:33

Working people living in social housing DID step up during Covid many in essential roles as key workers and yet afterwards its back to the default as ive listed above.

Ever heard the saying............fool me once shame on you fool me twice shame on me

TheCadoganArms · 24/01/2024 07:18

How would you feel if the call went out for conscription of men between the ages of say 18 - 40?

It should be all people between 18-40
No excuses.

It'd put an end to gender ideology pretty quick.
Ducking bullets, bit more important that declaration of pronouns.

If they make it men only between 18-40, the number of TransWomen will jump about 5000%

This view on feminism is what gives us a bad name!

You carry on choosing which bits of equality fit your remit and which don't.

Calling women ridiculous and childish is not very supportive of the cause either is it? Edit - and DIM! What the actual fuck!

Maddy70 · 24/01/2024 16:42

You believe anything written in the DM?

JenniferBooth · 24/01/2024 16:45

@Maddy70 people are arguing/debating hypothetically. I really dont think conscription will happen One reason being that the Gov. has treated too many groups like shit for too long

Akire · 24/01/2024 17:00

I can see the army starting to give serious golden handshakes to the usually suspects. Ie run down areas with plenty kids not in education or training or limited qualifications. Best to start now and get people in.

once the bombs start fall over our heads I think people will be much more incentivised to protect themselves and sign up. It’s just seems to unreal in peace time.

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 24/01/2024 17:05

Maddy70 · 24/01/2024 16:42

DM didn't say that people would be conscripted. It said that the general is understood to be saying at an event being held today that people should be encouraged to enlist; and that the general in question is opposed to conscription.
It's a political move from that soon to be retiring general in an election year to pressure the govt to spend more on defence.

MyopicBunny · 24/01/2024 18:43

According to whom? What is your definition of feminism? That if women expect equal pay, they should also expect to be shoved into situations where they are physically at a disadvantage and vulnerable to predatory men? Like fighting in a war?

You carry on choosing which bits of equality fit your remit and which don't.

Again. Equality does not mean expecting everyone to be able to do the same thing. You seem unwilling to accept the fact that people who give birth are necessarily more vulnerable. Ever heard of Vanessa Guillen?

Women can unfortunately be the worst perpetrators of internalised misogyny.

fuckityfuckityfuckfuck · 24/01/2024 19:06

Conscription in 2023 is not going to be the same as Conscription in 1914.

Pretty sure they assess you and only the strongest/fastest/most physically fit would serve on the front line (mostly men)

Plenty of less-dangerous jobs needed, which is probably where I'd end up as I can't even run 1k.

No death penalty nowadays so lots of objections/absconding are likely.

Even in 1914 you could refuse. You'd be vilified in your home town but you could refuse.

If the late queen could support the war effort in 1940s, Jane Bloggs in Kent can at least join "Nan's army" for some light reconnaissance. Or trawling SM for Intel.

ColouringPencils · 24/01/2024 19:15

I haven't read the Daily Mail but this is also reported in the Guardian and on the BBC website. There has been a lot of 'signalling' the past few days. Calling us the pre-war generation is a bit chilling.

ColouringPencils · 24/01/2024 19:17

Sorry, should have said in both BBC and Guardian the MOD clarifies they are not talking about conscription.

Hatenewyear · 24/01/2024 20:07

@MyopicBunny you’re arguing that women should be viewed as the weaker sex - if that isn’t the most blatant example of internalised misogyny I’m queen camilla!!

Look just stop being so disingenuous.

MyopicBunny · 24/01/2024 20:23

I suspect that the posters trying to argue that women have the same physical strength as men and that childbirth does not make a woman more vulnerable are people with sons who think it's unfair they might be conscripted.
