Conscription for women

I’ve just read what the head of Army has announced on DM that it’s likely conscription is to return if the conflict with Russia escalates. Reading up on it and asking some people who I believe are in the know they seem to think this might be first war where women will be expected to fight on the front line. I’m going to be honest this terrifies me is anyone else ready to die in a ditch in Russia somewhere? I thought these days were over but apparently even with atom bombs we still have to duke it out the old fashioned way.

Generation Z will absolutely in no way comply to this. Imagine having to put their phone down to do something as challenging as fighting in a war.

My kids won't be conscripted to fight some rich men's war. The country is finished as it is, why would anyone fight for it?

That too.

Tooolde · 24/01/2024 11:30

I guess it may include women. But they might exempt one of a couple with kids?
Realistically though dp has a bad back he can sit - not kean forward for long. Wouldnt be able to carry large weights and has bmi 30 or so.
For me i have very low body temp and absolutely wouldnt survive in a ground fought war.
In terms of exempt people imagine asd teen probably would be. The ones noise sensitive with ear defenders. Or who struggle with other people, could get whole group shot. (my youngest just wont be quieter too, actually neither)

I simply don’t believe that the UK government will be conscripting anyone.

It’s not the early 20th century. The armed forces are highly professionalised and a bunch of conscripted ransoms would be useless. Worse than useless - they’d require so much effort and attention to try to get them to do anything it would likely be counterproductive.

This is all just scaremongering nonsense.

You don’t need to be any good, the point will be to use them as cannon fodder in trench warfare. In Ukraine now it’s mainly a question of who can sustain high death rates longer. Whoever runs out of fodder first will find their lines overrun.

unfortunately it’s not scare mongering, if trump wins he will pull support for Ukraine and it will fall. Many high ranking Russians are saying publicly nato countries are next in line which will oblige us to send troops.

SherrieElmer · 24/01/2024 11:31

If only men get conscripted, I expect a large number of them to transition to female just to avoid going to the front. Just saying.

MyopicBunny · 24/01/2024 11:32

High ranking Russians say a lot of things. Doesn’t mean it’s true!

tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz · 24/01/2024 11:35

Regardless of equality it is a fact that rape is a weapon of war as is using rape to deliberately impregnate your enemies women.

This makes it a little less straightforward than "coz equality " as whilst not wholly sex specific women are undoubtedly way more at risk. Thanks has to be acknowledged.

I'd recommend reading The War on Women for more harrowing information on this and the specifics of how it can be a very effective psychological weapon.

Boomboom22 · 24/01/2024 11:46

Yes I think rape and womens bodies means despite equality in law in reality it wouldn't be ok to send female conscripts to the front line. Recruitment is ok because you are aware of the increased risk presumably and sign up to be at risk.

Sunflower8848 · 24/01/2024 11:46

Everyone complied with Covid restrictions, I’m pretty sure they would obey a conscription.

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 24/01/2024 11:48

Having read the article what he's actually saying is that people should be prepared to enlist; and that he's against comscription (which wouldn't work anyway). Sign up in the sense of volunteer, not, as some people appear to think, be dragged out of your house by a 21c version of the pressgang.

High ranking Russians have been threatening the UK with nuclear obliteration since the Ukraine invasion.

Women will not be asked to fight on the front line unless that are already in the army and have signed up for it.

Women are too high risk in war for rapes, attacks, periods etc.

If it comes to war and we need a large volume of people, it will be the duty of men to go and fight.

And what about those women in the military who have been arguing the opposite as you for decades in order to be treated as equals?

ForTonightGodisaDJ · 24/01/2024 12:02

I'd be a liability, they wouldn't want me.

YouJustDoYou · 24/01/2024 12:06

I highly doubt it'll happen, it's for cannon fodder in the trenches/invasion and Putin knows full well he can't afford to further a war beyond Ukraine. It's the Hamas' and their ilk we need to worry about.

You know men get raped in war, they also get tortured and die. I don't think having a vagina is a get out of jail free card, in fact people, men and women, get raped via other orifices.

How the hell are you going to convince young men to go to war when women do not when they have grown up in the era of female equality I know my son would ask why do I have to go and she doesn’t aren’t we equal? Is my life worth risking more than a woman’s? Doesn’t feel very equal to me.

Having read the article someone is saying the General is set to say that. He hasn't yet, nor is it actually confirmed by the Army that the content of his speech is along those lines.

Men can't get pregnant and don't give birth.

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 24/01/2024 12:44

I'm more surprised to find out about this army shindig at Twickenham! must be the rugby ground.

OutsideLookingOut · 24/01/2024 12:57

Iwasafool · 24/01/2024 11:15

Well sod equality laws then, we are either equal or we aren't. Why should my sons be expected to risk their lives purely because they are men? Maybe this is the test about if we really want to be treated as equal or not.

Does equal mean the same? Will men have the same chance of being raped as women? Are women just as strong as men? What about pregnant women? Or is basic biology not equal then?

SwordToFlamethrower · 24/01/2024 12:58

Don't fancy being raped and murdered thanks. Wars are men's business because they don't know how to talk to each other.

OutsideLookingOut · 24/01/2024 13:01

Not to mention that decreasing your fertile female population is a great own goal if you want more disposable consumers in the future but that is on them.

It's like we've lost the plot.
Women get raped far more in war whether fighting or not, yet that poster wants to deflect and distract with this whataboutery. It's like me asking why should older people get a pass? Why should disabled people get a pass?

We are all equal right so maybe we all should fighting?

tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz · 24/01/2024 13:10

@Iwasafool

I didn't say having a vagina was a get out of jail free card.

The risk of rape for women in war either as a combatant or civvy is much more so than men.

What I did say is it's important to take this into account. The book I mentioned makes harrowing reading for how pregnancy by rape from the enemy is a considerable weapon.

SwordToFlamethrower · 24/01/2024 13:10

All the men on here peddling "equal rights" bollocks. I see you fuckers.

Women are too valuable a resource. We are mothers and have dependants to look after. We are targets for rapists. We can't outrun or outfight men.

We can get pregnant, we have periods, we can miscarry etc etc. Women are vulnerable against aggressive men.

Women stay to run the country while men go off to fight in wars.

That's how it is.

These are the facts.

If Women go off to fight in wars, the children perish.
